You know I had to comeback with another Dire Straits videos as the Sultans Of Swing video did so well! Brothers In Arms is a song that completely threw me off when I first heard it. It was nothing like I expected it to be. The craftsmanship behind the song though is something we all need to appreciate. Make sure to watch the whole video to hear my thoughts.
Here is my reaction to hearing Dire Straits - Brothers In Arms for the first time. I hope you enjoy it1

Don’t listen to the trolls, bro. I love seeing you react to older and different genres of music! Keep doing what you’re doing! Most people your age wouldn’t take the time to expand their musical tastes or see what inspired other musicians to create the newer music. I look forward to your videos every day and I watch, even if I already know I don’t care for the song, because maybe I’ll hear it differently. I’m 52 and sing in 2 punk bands, but love all genres and styles of music. You and Stax are by far my fav reaction videos. You’re both genuine and it shows

Young man, (I'm old enough to be your grandmother), do not apologize for your reactions. They are YOUR reactions. It took me a long time before I fully understood what he was saying. But listen to one of his live versions of this song. He starts out low and it rises to a crescendo, It wrings every emotion out of your soul. It's absolutely worth a revisit. As a military veteran, this song hits home.

Your comparison of Mark Knopfler's ability to have the guitar tell a story just like David Gilmour is *_exactly_* why Gilmour and Knopfler are my two favorite guitarists. You nailed it, man. Next Dire Straits you should check out is Telegraph Road (live), then Money For Nothing, and Walk Of Life. That'll pretty much lock in most of their big radio hits. But the catalog goes so much deeper than that, and much of it is worth experiencing.

I bought this album when it first came out in 1985. This song made an impact on war from a soldier's perspective. However, it's been a song that haunted me since 2003. Seeing teenage young soldiers in Iraq pull their mortally wounded sergeant (old enough to be their father) out of an armored personnel carrier is something that will stay with me. Hearing those young voices trying to convince themselves he will be ok by saying "We got you, sergeant. You're going to be ok. Hang on. We got you" will stay with me until God has had enough. Only the dead have seen the end of war.

Firstly, kudos on you for your open-mindedness and musical adventurousness! Ignore the negativity. Secondly, I'm glad you listened to this track, and whilst it is very different from Sultans, it does showcase Mark's range and incredible musicianship, doesn't it? Thirdly, if you are now in the mood for something upbeat (with another awesome Mark guitar riff) check out Dire Straits' "Money for Nothing," which was another of their bigger hits. There is a concert/live version out there, as well as the official music video (very eighties but very entertaining in making the self-parody evident). While watching it, keep in mind that Mark wrote the song after overhearing some workers in a hardware store; all the TVs in the shop were tuned to MTV, and Mark wrote down their remarks about the musicians in the music videos verbatim, which became the lyrics of the song. Finally, let me say again that I am very much enjoying your reactions, and process of discovery, so do not let any one deter you! To quote someone else, 'You do you, THEY'LL have to adjust'.🙂

All these years after it was released, I can still barely listen to it without tears streaming down my face. Our young reviewer didn't recognize the images of the men blinded by mustard gas and see the waves of troops going over the top and the later images from WWII and beyond. Not his fault, they likely barely touch on such things any more.

As an ex serviceman, this was our anthem to remember our Brothers in Arms who paid the ultimate sacrifice and for those still serving. Doing a lot in Ukraine at the moment and this is still an anthem for those brave Ukrainians who have also paid for their freedom with their lives. Its a beautifully haunting song and the way Mark Knopfler makes the guitar weep and cry almost, is just a skill not many have. Keep you reactions honest mate, that's the best quality. P.S. Gilmour is a brilliant guitarist, just a different style, but Gilmour, Knopfler, Clapton, all legends. Also if this is catering to more mature listeners, who gives a rats backside lol, I'm in that bracket and would love one of those leaving that kind of comment to come and meet me and comment on my age 😉😉 Great job.

We lost 256 out there, and even today many an ex-serviceman will have a tear in his eyes when they hear this and remember their lost mates. Keep doing what your doing it’s your reaction and you prove time and again you have the heart and soul to appreciate the message within this particular song, Namely it’s anti-war, and the strongest opponents of war are ex-servicemen, those that have been there, done it seen it and lived through it.

There is his voice, and then their is the guitars own voice, he just let's it speak for itself, but they both express a deep knowledge of war, the feel, the pain, the futility, the tenderness, the caring, the connection, person to person... And how a guitar can speak and tell all that the guy is feeling and meaning?!? ... But it does feel like they are telling the same story from two different yet connected viewpoints. How does Knophler do that? It's a deep conversation between man and guitar...?!?!?!?......

This was also the last song on the album at a time when albums told stories. It closed out the story and was so engaging at the end of the ride. Now if you roll back to track #2 - Money For Nothing, you need to get the proper mindset on. Imagine being in high school, there were only 3-4 channels of TV to watch and you stayed up late Friday nights for the one rock music show. Then cable TV started to be everywhere but still you couldn't get your music fix. Then along came the news that a new cable channel devoted to music was launching, MTV. You and your friends raced home from school to watch the launch, and along comes Money For Nothing. (oh and if you do listen to it, crank it up) Also this was some of the first computer generated graphics ever. Til then everything was still hand drawn.

And you are the first person I've heard say what I've always thought about the feeling of the guitar playing of Mark Knopfler and David Glimour... I say "their guitar makes you melt inside..."!! Brothers in Arms, along with both Comfortably Numb and Shine On by Pink Floyd all have that feeling...ones soul just melts...:) As my handle says: 'your soul knows' :) Keep up the videos, I'm 68 and I love seeing your joy and reactions to the music I grew up on... it's pure and genuine enjoyment so don't allow the trolls to upset you. I've watched your Dire Straits Sultans of Swing, Tom Sawyer, YYZ and 2112 videos by Rush and Barracuda by Heart videos so far.... you're great!! I've actually subscribed :)

Yes it was about the Falklands war. You absolutely MUST REACT to 'Telegraph Road' from the Alchemy live - the same concert as Sultans of Swing (Alchemy Live). It's an absolute masterpiece. The story is excellent & Mark is simply stunning on the guitar. This music is just timeless & I think that's why they're still so loved today & why younger people discovering them love them just as much as those who were around & lucky enough to be there first time round!! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE react to Telegraph Road.xxxxxx❤❤❤❤ p.s - if you think Sultans of Swing was well written by Mark, and was a masterpiece, just wait until you see the one I've suggested...its simply stunning 😍

You’ve described it so perfectly. It doesn’t matter if you like metal, thrash, grunge.. whatever, music tells a story, some musicians tell it better than others, but practically every song means something to someone! I’m not a big Dire Straits fan, but they’re masters of their type of music and this is beautiful. Thanks again for having such an open mind and listening to all types of music. I’m enjoying your journey! Are you ready for some Sigur Ros yet? Maybe you need a little more time! You’re definitely ready for some Type O Negative though!

You are doing a fantastic job of introducing great music to the younger generations. I am 64 and grew up with all of this music. My two nephews both play guitar and neither of them play any current chart music. The only sounds I ever hear coming from their rooms are the sounds of 70's, 80's and early 90's rock music. From your accent, you are local to me 😉

A moving war anthem by the master guitarist Mark Knopfler. Listen to Dire Straits’s Romeo and Juliet next - one of the great love songs.

This is not about any particular war, this is about all wars. One friend told me that his grandfather once said that sometimes he was feeling more close to the guys in the trenches on the opposite side of the battlefield than to his own command somewhere behind. There are heroes and comrades on both sides. They don't know each other, but are enemies. War is always boils down to people bound by their duty killing each other, when in other circumstances they would be brothers in arms.

This song DESCRIBES all wars ,but was written about Falklands. M.K. had a personal connection.A friend or acquaintance who did not come home. You should know that so much of his work is inspired by his own life experience. We could all write songs or poems if we looked at our own lives. Of course they wouldn't cut the mustard next to his talent.

Just watched the sultan’s of swing video, it lead me to this , my generation ( I’m 54 ) tends to gravitate towards “ our music “ we do Listen to newer stuff too , but to us Gen X lot , there’s nothing quite like the music from our era , it’s good to see a young guy like yourself listening to and seemingly enjoying it, I’ve watched a few “ reaction “ channels but never subscribed to any, but I subbed to yours , “Brothers in Arms “ is a fantastic, timeless track , along with sultans and money for nothing ( which I’m about to watch ) by the way , I started playing guitar 14 months ago, ( tried when I was 18 , but was way too difficult back then, girls and cars got in the way ) good luck with your guitar journey 👍👍🤠🎸

Never apologise to the nay sayers. Your reactions are your feelings. Never discount them. Brothers In Arms is a score for a movie. Watch it for yourself. Mark is such a poet and a writer of diverse genres. This one is truly moody and is treasured by many in the services. Yes this is about the Faulklands War.

Loved seeing your reaction to this song, I loved it when it was released and still love it now. You're right about it being inspired by the Falklands war, which happened in 1982, with this song being released 3 yrs later ❤

You got me remembering what I was doing when I was 23 (1981) - on the dole (thanks Maggie) and a roadie for a band doing the club circuit in the North East, did that for about 6 years, 3 different bands. Two roadies unloading a 3 ton truck, setting up on stage then breaking it all down and loading the truck again certainly allows you to sweat off a lot of alcohol, add the effects of copious amounts of wacky baccy and I'm still amazed I could drive the truck! Best 6 years of my life with live music 4 or 5 nights a week, free drinks AND getting paid :) Anyway, I'm rambling like the 66 year old I am, just want to say, ignore the haters, always do what you enjoy and you will never have regrets.

Mark was the writer of most of their music and he didn't want to write 2 songs that sounded similar. That is why their music is so varied and you don't know what to expect. He is still writing music at age 74 and says he has so much more to write.

I used to hate reaction videos, but started watching your AIC reactions. Your genuine excitement about discovering these new songs has drawn me in. (Speaking of AIC - My fav band…PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE react to Frogs - MTV Unplugged). But I love that you do all these different genres and times. For DS, I’m not a crazy huge fan, but loved Money for Nothing and So far Away when I was a pre-teen before the grunge scene swept me away. That said, about 5 years ago I heard You and Your Friends for the first time. MAN, if you are ready for a smooth chill vibe, I love this song!! It’s not heavy, but the guitar work is silky smooth, and if you immerse yourself in it, it’s an experience. From someone who loves 60s&70s rock, select 80’s stuff, a product of the grunge era in my formative years(!!!), 2000’s rap, and more, you can be a fan of any kind of music. Keep listening!! It’s obvious you enjoy learning and expanding your musical library. That’s why you’ve gained so many viewers.
