This was written in 1982 at the time of the Falklands War between Britain and Argentina, the backstory is of a soldier dying on the battlefield, he is thinking about his life, his comrades around him and won't leave him, it has become a sort of unofficial anthem for servicemen in that you never leave anyone behind, you bring your brother home, the song highlights how senseless and wasteful war is, a huge thank you to all men and women for their service, deepest sympathy to those who have lost someone ❤

For me this is an ultimate anti-war song. I consider myself as one of the oldest Dire Straits fans. Since 1980, when I heard Sultans of Swing for the first time and I didn't even know who they were, it took me almost half a year to figure that out. And they are still one of the greatest bands ever.
