I was there. Lined up for 3 days for tickets. Front row first night. Went to 3 of the 22 shows they did in Sydney. This brings back the best memories. Still one of the best bands ever. Even now they are my go to band.

Dire Straits was sooo good. They truly were the Sultans of Swing. Nobody sounded like them, mixed rock with a folky jazzy sound. Didn't give a damn 'bout no trumpet playing band, just great music

I love Dire Straits and I thought the band was great in this line-up. Terry Williams on drums, for me the best they had and with Chris White on saxophone they had a real asset. Jack Sonni was always fun and a great player. The concert was fantastic and they had fun together. The “Alchemy” and “Wembley 85” concerts were also great. At Wembley, “Tunnel of Love” was the absolute best version of the song for me and I can watch it again and again :-)
@theguitargarden12 күн бұрын
I agree, there was something special about this line up, this time, this set list. It was all about the music not about big screens and the ‘show’ but a great band with great music. Thanks for your comment.

Thanks for the fresh upload mate 👌 Very nice audio, not too compressed. Fellow Aussie here, I was 8.5yrs when this was on telly that Saturday night, April 26. I only got to see a few songs before having to toddle off to bed. My sister and I sat watching wearing headbands. Dad had the Betacam recording too, stereo turned up, they had friends over. I played that tape a thousand times, converted it to VHS years later, have a number of CD-R's from yes, 2MMM 104.9. It was a massive event. Probably still my favourite of their's, and like all DS fans I've seen a lot! Definitely a reason I've played guitar since age 15. I suspect Channel 9 owns the rights, though MK like with so much of the Dire Straits canon, he's so slow to let us hear and see it officially. Fun fact: their plane the next morning couldn't leave, they had to stay yet another night down under. Approx. performance figures: Sydney 21, Melbourne 13, Perth 8, QLD 5, alongside Adelaide, Hobart, Darwin and Ayers Rock. Unheard of for Australia at the time.

I probably stand alone in this opinion, but I like the fact that the video looks a little “vintage” . It was a different era in music. An era where music didn’t have to be falsely pitch perfect or video unrealistically clear. Old school😊

This was the Brothers In Arms 85/86 world tour. The tour ended in Australia in 1986. They returned to Australia in 1991 for the On Every Street Tour. Before that they also toured Australia in 1981 & 1983. I believe that they have played over 100 times in Australia over the 4 tours.
