Knopfler is known for his les paul for his more heavily distorted stuff, and a strat for his more technical songs. However this song is played with a telecaster. Its nearly impossible to get that sharp, chicken pickin tone he gets without tossing the pick and playing a single coil tele on the bridge pickup with your bare fingers
