PATREON : / theguitarshow for Ramon's Guitar Course
WEB: www.ramongoose... for Ramon's music
This is part one of a how to play Mark Knopfler's right hand rhythm guitar technique. We look at the song 'Walk Of Life'. In Part two we will incorporate the 'slap' from the fingernails.
For this video I'm using a Navigator ESP strat, Mystic Blues Amp with a Celestion Type A speaker and a Free The Tone Red Japser OD pedal.

Yes I do - Sky is crying is one of my favourite songs - I got introduced to him via Jeremy Spencers playing in early Fleetwood Mac - he basically wanted to be Elmore James

Great lesson. Needs quite a loud amp. It always seems quieter when using finger style.

I'm not quite sure why you arent letting the strings ring out like Knopfler does? It actually makes it sound nothing like what it actually is. no doubt you have the pick but let the strings wring out.

While I am always intrigued by guitar players, I am surprised that the only thing ppl talk about in this song is the guitar. What about the keyboard and the bass? Those are the things that drew me to the song.

Love this comment, of course the players on that album are really amazing... I had the pleasure to work with a musician who was in Dire Straits. Thanks for the comment also stayed tuned as in the very near future we will be interviewing a Mark Knopfler band member!

Channels with names like "The Guitar Show" ... and correct me if this sounds ludicrous, tend to concentrate on the more ... guitar-y kinds of things. Try The Piano Show - just down the hall to the left.

Because the kboard melody is facile. This guitar technique defies most.

If I may suggest, for your more experienced See-And-Play Students, who don't need the right hand lesson you should do the initial run through with your camera STRAIGHT ON to the full length of the strings ...that's all we need. ..... thanks man

Hi Mark - I will revisit this song and Ill do as you say - sounds like the right approach , thanks bro!

I find this comment hard to comprehend, as anything to do with Knopfler is all about the right hand technique. The notes he plays are usually easy to figure out, but until you figure what's happening with the right hand, which very few people can ,you ain't gonna get that Knopfler sound no matter how good you are.

@@paultownsend6043 What's "hard to comprehend" in my comment Paul? .... I was simply suggesting that a full speed run through at the beginning of the video would be save time for advanced players who don't need the finger picking lesson and can see it once and play it.

@@markmarsh27 Most experienced player will of learnt a basic 12 bar/rockabilly boogie which is basically what this song is, probably one of the first things they will of learned. As i said in my first comment, what makes this different is the right hand, without the right hand technique you'll never get the knopfler sound, this is probably why you don't see to many knopfler song lessons as few people can get the right hand bit down, the guy here does a good job as does (i think his name is) Pavel Formatov (watch his lessons) he's good. PS plz don't take my comment person, it isn't meant that way, i just feel if the guy doing the lesson took away the right hand part of the lesson, he's be taking away the most important part.

not exact but still likeable, there is a down percussive stroke missing and your muting to try and fill in for it not being there. Mark lets all the strings ring on

I`ve also noticed that mark came up the neck 2 frets for the B on the "on every street tour" which gave it a slightly different feel to the "brother in arms era. He is my fav musician of all time, saw straits twice on the oes tour at Sheffield and Manchester, and solo on the Shangri la tour. Love him , an artist

well, first of all it's you who posted your own attempts therefore I believe you are prepared for a little bit of feedback as well, secondly, yes, as a matter of fact I used to play classical guitar (still do my bits and pieces) but I am not sure if I want to show this on YT as I am not Paco de Lucia, Segovia or Pat Metheny (not to mention MK or Clapton) and I will never be. As I said nice try but sth's missing here, perhaps it's the fingers, check out MK showing how he moves up and down the strings and keep on trying, cheers

Mac J That's terrific KZbin criticism. I can understand that you don't want to show your own efforts and teach anyone to play the guitar for free on YT. However, on this form you could easily carve yourself a nice little niche out criticising people who are putting lessons on here for free. Anything else you'd like to meaningfully criticise while you're on fire? I'll gladly subscribe because it's people like you who make KZbin the great learning tool it is - keep up the good work!
