A direct mount chainring fits a crank specially designed and machined to accept it. A "standard" crank consists of a 4 or 5 arm "spider" onto which chainrings are bolted. A direct mount chainring slots directly onto a crank-you have the crank (arm) and the chainring. That's it.
In the video we give a simple demonstration of changing from a crank with one (narrow-wide) chainring to the direct mount crank.
