I teach high school Spanish and this is a concept that tends to confuse students. I think I'll show this video because I like the way you show both sets of pronouns - subject and direct object - to help the viewer/learner avoid confusion. And I'm subscribing as well in hopes of using other videos of yours. Thanks for taking the time to make these! :D

Lenora Wilkinson My pleasure! Sorry for the slow reply. I'm glad you like the video. I have a whole series about this direct/indirect/double--along with reflexive and verbs like gustar. You can see all the pronoun videos on one page here: gringoespanol.com/quickie-category/pronouns/
@concentrateddarkmatter79912 жыл бұрын
I'm just starting to learn this but it may help to sort of translate the sentences 'literally' at first in the sense that you help students see a greater pattern. In this case, "Carlos te presenta" "Carlos you introduces" or "Lo presentas" "Him you introduce" Not correct, but it could help people recognize how they should place the words for actual translation

I like his videos much more than those by native Spanish speakers on KZbin who tell us that a concept is so very simple but to an English speaker makes no literal sense. I feel there's nothing wrong about getting mad about how confusing languages are and Spanish is full of "Why? What? Huh?" moments for me.

I do not know if this is an issue or not. There is a TON of outstanding Spanish on youtube, and your charisma and down to earth speaking style, that often puts warning signs up early (ie, "this is confusing", "this often is a stumbling block", "I found this difficult" etc) is really helpful. It forces to bear down mentally in anticipation, and gives us encouragement to not beat ourselves up, making you one of the best. I am signing up. (Sorry for the run on sentence! I'm a native English speaker, so I have no excuse) I find the rapidity forces me to watch it 3 times. That's probably a good thing.

While I have a degree in Spanish, I also study French as a third language and some Italian on the side... and let me say when it comes to direct/indirect object pronouns in French and Italian, Spanish is certainly the most simple. In Spanish, when it coems to double object pronouns, the indirect always precedes the direct, and when you have like le + lo the le becomes se (se lo)...Italian comes second, while it shares similar rules to Spanish, it gets a little weird like gli + lo becomes glielo... or mi + lo+ da' = dammelo in the command) like whet??..... French is just a whole weird ball game haha. French doesnt follow a placement order of indirect before direct like in Spanish/Italian. They go by the "little/long" rule. So in this order (little to long): me, te, nous, vous --> le/la, l', les --> lui, leur (usually, the me/te/nous/vous are indirect pronouns). Ex: Sandrine les (direct) leur (indirect - leur is considered "longer") donne. Sandrine me (indirect) le (direct) donne. Sandrine nous (indirect) le (direct) donne (l's are considered longer). Sandrine les (direct) lui (indirect) donne (lui {to him/her} is longer). And when you have l's together you just pronounce them lol Sandrine le leur (basically same sound) donne (Sandrine gives it to them).... Like ave maria.....I still love learning French and Spanish, though, but yea.. haha

That's so cool, Abdullah. I'm glad I was able to help you. This video was part of a series, though, so make sure not to miss the others. Here's a link to all the videos in the series: spanishdude.com/playlists/object-pronouns/

Thank you, Spanish Dude! This is my first attempt to learn Spanish (or to study ANY language since high school) and I was struggling. . .guess I will be watching YOUR stuff over and over! I wish you could be inserted in a xerox machine and copied -- though you might find the process to be a bit uncomfortable!

My online instructor does not even take the time to explain it. We're supposed to do the book and learn on our own -- while paying the same price as in-class learners with someone who is actually teaching them something.

I think if you slowed down a little bit i would understand it better. When you keep jumping from clip to clip its like I'm trying to interpret what your saying and then you start saying something else.

Michael D Thank you for your feedback. I really appreciate it. I want to make these videos as fun to watch as possible, while still keeping them informative. Two questions. Do you know your direction, indirect and reflexive pronouns, before watching this video? That's required to understand this. If so, and it's truly a speed thing, have you tried slowing down the speed on the KZbin player? You can do that. I often slow videos down and speed them up.I'm not getting defensive or dismissive, I truly just want to know your situation before I go making any abrupt changes.

I pause the video and do some googling when I get stuck. Thanks @The Spanish Dude with your videos I am finally making progress.

I came here for the same things, it would be easier to watch if you didn't cut them as much and kept a normal speaking pace but I get that this cuts down the time

+Lexi O'Donnell Great, I love to hear it. I'm happy you found me. This video is actually part of a series of videos that are all very related (and they get confusing): gringoespanol.com/quickie-category/pronouns It's this one, then indirect, double, reflexive and verbs like gustar. 5 videos total. Check them out! Thanks for the message!
