With great power comes great responsibility, and Ren is truly a hero! He is using his growing powers and platform for so much more than simply creating brilliant music. Ren has said that he always had this feeling that he was meant to change the world for the better. So much that he defiantly yelled a challenge to evil into an empty room. And then he got sick… Ren has now shared the full story of his health journey in 8 video chapters leading up to the release of this song and what a journey it has been. If anyone hasn’t already watched them, I highly recommend you do. With all the chapters he is showing immense strength in sharing his story that is so hard to tell, being vulnerable and telling it because he hopes it will help others and raise awareness. And here he is with another rendition of that story, now told through music with a fire beat and delivering a message of hope. The world needs Ren 🐰🕳️

ME was a misdiagnosis Ren carried for about 5 years, up until he got properly diagnosed with Lyme disease. While they thought he had ME, he became part of online ME communities via health blogging ("Me vs ME" channel) and a woman named Jennifer Brea (has ME) who was making a documentary about pwME asked him to write a song for the documentary (available on Netflix, called "Unrest" - WELL worth the watch outside of Ren's part in it, which of course hits like a freight train to any Ren fan). My understanding is that that got Ren even more exposure within the ME community. He promised whatever ME audience he had that he would do whatever he could to help, if he ever got out. He dropped this track - his first fully original release since his #1 UK album Sick Boi (idk how to categorize the retakes... they're AMAZING, I love them, I don't want to give the impression that I'm dismissing them, but this is fully his own - whereas he does the retakes without pursuing getting the rights, he did whatever it took to have permission to use the Vera Hall sample, and everything about this track is his own creation) ... anyway, he dropped his first original release since his #1 UK album in conjunction with ME Awareness Week, the slogan for which is #MillionsMissing (or just #Missing for short), and leading up to the release of the track he changed his social media profile pictures to the #Missing graphic pwME (and Lyme etc) talk about how when they become sick, they go missing. Lots of people catch the "Posters up, manhunt, Ren went missing" lyric and take it to mean that the Ren lost himself while he was so sick, and that's true; but it's a double, because when you come down with something as debilitating as ME etc can be, you go missing from life. You can't leave the house; some can barely leave their bed. In far too many cases, friends and family disappear, because they don't know how to deal with maintaining a relationship with a chronically ill person who has no ability to participate in their life. I mean, and plenty of friends and family bail long before they're so sick that they can't leave home - even if they're lucky enough to get an early diagnosis, all too often people have given up on them, "you have a bad attitude," "you're lazy," "you just don't want to have to go to work/school," "I can't believe you didn't come to my party/graduation/wedding/so and so's funeral etc, you're a terrible person," "you're lying about how bad you feel, if you felt this bad/were in this much pain, the doctors would find something." Anyway. Ren wanted this song to help people understand the situation of pwME etc. Maybe a few more won't lose as many friends or family when they go missing. I feel his history with the online ME community, and the timing of the release, are important layers of context for the song. He'd hoped that it might chart; it would have been the first song about ME/Lyme to ever do so (but my understanding is that it didn't, though there are "other charts" than "the one he was talking about" and I haven't heard an update on how it might have done by those charts' metrics). Edit: I forgot to mention for anyone who's interested - the song Ren did for Jennifer Brea's "Unrest" documentary is "Patience." It's not on his channel, but if you search "Ren Gill Patience" a woman named Ayesha Jones has the whole clip from the documentary, including Ren talking about ME, on her channel. WELL worth watching, even if you're not up for watching the documentary in its entirety. One of my very favourite Ren tracks.

Such an incredible song! One of my faves from Ren. The acoustic version he dropped yesterday is also phenomenal. ME (myalgic encephalomyelitis) is Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, and often causes people to be confined to their bed in a dark room for years at a time. MCAS is mast cell activation syndrome (basically an overactive immune system that develops allergies to everything. POTS (postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome) is a condition where your heart rate rapidly increases when you change positions and can cause loss of consciousness among other symptoms. Fibromyalgia is generalized pain among other symptoms. All these conditions can occur together. I personally, have at least 2-3 of them. All of them together receive about 1/10th of the research funding of male pattern baldness. Loved your reaction💜💜

His cadence is crazy good. I love how many artists these days are using their platform to shine a light on important things. He has been through so much and came out the other side to deliver hope. So much more is needed to help people who are suffering. A friends daughter went through Lyme and it was brutal. Took a long time to get the diagnosis for her too.

I recently heard from a friend that her daughter had Lyme for a year before she managed to diagnose it herself. She has a Masters in Biology, which helped a lot in her research, but the NHS still made life difficult by resisting her reports. AND she works for the NHS!

Not sure if you did it already, but I’d also love to see your thoughts on Chinchilla’s 1:5 (live) video. Ren says that Chinchilla is the woman version of him artistically and musically, like his musical sister. 1:5 live made me weep, and is on the level of Adele’s Hello in my opinion. Please check it out too when you get time. Thanks for another great reaction Roscoe - hope indeed.

Familiarity with British accents through spending time in the UK or watching British shows must be a major factor. If your own accent is relatively close or similar to a “British accent”, then that will make a difference, as will age-related issues like hearing loss. I suspect, though, that some people are better listeners than others. They will be more attentive and observant; so they adapt and become familiar with a new accent faster than a passive or “lazy listener”.

Very nice reaction! With regard to Ren's accent, when I first discovered Ren I had a really hard time understanding some of what he said, too. I've found the more I listen to his music (which is pretty much constantly now) the easier it has gotten. My ears have adjusted and I don't even notice his accent much anymore. Ren almost always will post up the words to his original stuff in the description section if I do get stuck on a word.

I think the limo was one of those happy little coincidences Ren likes to say show up in his videos from time to time. I know he and his videographer were driving around in a black rental truck scouting their locations for the shoot. ME is known here more commonly as chronic fatigue syndrome. POTTS is another autoimmune condition, one that Ren has said he also has, besides MCAS, as a result of Lyme disease.

It is a wonder how many artists watch Ren videos and it engenders creative moments in their own works. That limo shot is serendipity; did you see the name on the building--Magic Car Wash. Before this came out Ren did a short where he mentioned him and buddy were looking for places to film his next video. These are the locations he chose. There is meaning in it all even if we don't catch everything.

Ren's music has gotten me through some hard times. I may not have had lime disease, but I've been sick for my whole life mentally. I tried to commit suicide and actually died and had to be resuscitated 3 times. Now I'm filled with metal parts and in pain all the time. I died before I was 30 like he was afraid he would do, but I didn't stay dead.

In addition to Lyme, Ren also has MCAS (mast cell activation syndrome), which means his cells mimic that he's allergic to a lot, especially food, but even things like stress can trigger his mast cells to act as if he has encountered something he's severely allergic to. Very few people know about the illnesses Ren mentions, which I think proves his point. These disorders aren't well understood medically or societally, and because symptoms are often anecdotal, sufferers are sidelined or not believed. M.E. is myalgic encephalomyelitis aka CFS (Chronic fatigue syndrome) = extreme fatigue POTS (postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome) symptoms are similar to an anxiety disorder (heart palpitations/lightheadedness/dizziness/sweating/etc), but it's because the body's blood doesn't move where it should and the heart beats faster to try to move it along. Fibromyalgia is noted by constant pain and fatigue over extended periods of time (at least months). 🫶

So I hope that you review the acoustic version of this that he just did recording it in the Uber! It’s amazing and you can understand all the words very clearly I mean I’m a rap fan so he doesn’t spit that fast compared to Eminem, but he is quite the talent and he could probably get up to 160bpm which is cooking. I think in Rap God and Godzilla eminen is over 200. The limo was a coincidence apparently but I believe he has opened up to being a believer again! I mean 7 Deadly sins he was done with religion! He has stated that he doesn’t follow a specific religion however I believe that recently has become more spiritual, and possibly on his way to becoming more religious. Very interesting to me though he says Lord I Forgive You, over and over instead of how it’s obviously usually said Lord forgive me! Wow your reading of the lyrics was terrific! Are you a narrator of some sort? If not you should make an audiobook. It would be excellent. You have a great voice for reading. It’s calm and soothing, yet easy to understand and captures the emotion. I haven’t seen you do that before. This is probably my 7th or 8th video of yours. That was very well done man. Impressive. You should watch his 8 part documentary leading up to the release of this. Talk about bearing your soul for public consumption. He’s admitted he struggles with that at times, not keeping much personal for himself but spreading hope and helping someone in need superceeds his desire for privacy. A truly amazing human being. But maybe he heard your message because he redid it. Crystal clear acoustically less than a month later so I anticipate you’ll be breaking that down and I think it’s even more emotional create a masterpiece and then remake it completely different less than a month and it be even more of a masterpiece is beyond me, all I know is that who was ever behind him in line at birth, waiting for talent, boy did they get shorted! Probably a couple of them!

About not catching all the lyrics. That happens with even the most benign of songs. 1970s Elton John, should be perfectly understandable but still you mind messes up a third of the lyrics.
