I was paying $154 month for Dish and cancelled 2 years ago. They gave me price of $98 month and I said if you had giving me that choice I would have never cancelled but you don't care about current customers.

I have KZbinTV for $72.99. I get 99% of the channels, that were on Spectrum. The only channel, that I wished I had, is A&E network. I love watching crime shows on A&E network. I've got a DVR and all the channels can go with me, wherever my phone goes. With Spectrum, there were some channels, I couldn't watch on my phone. Because, I had to be at home network, in order to watch them. I've been trying to get my friends to switch to KZbinTV, because we both get a referral bonus. I've still got friends and family using Spectrum cable TV.

I was like you. Dish was going to charge me $154 a month. Too much when all I used Dish for was sports cause all new episodes of shows were going to Apps. I canceled Dish and got KZbin TV which gave me my sports channels for $85 a month. Cable TV is to expensive and are pricing themselves out of business.

Before cutting the cord, I would call Xfinity tell them I was going to cancel, my building had both Xfinity and Verizon, and switch to Verizon cause of deal for new customers. Xfinity would give me the same deal as that for new customers. Did this yearly.

Because they lock you into a contract and absolutely forget about you after that. I felt so bad for customer's that I quit working there and also turned my service off. We use an over the air antenna and free tv and apps on our t.v. we pay $0 and rarely watch any T.V. anyway.

But some will survive. Comcast particularly, because they have begun rollout of bi-symmetric DOCSIS 4.0 service that will allow 1 gigabit speeds both download _and_ upload. And they already have the wired infrastructure in place in much of the country. I expect by 2030 we'll all be watching TV on a streaming basis over a 500 megabits/second or faster Internet connection.

Brings to mind the merger of 2 big financially strapped and struggling companies in the past; Kmart and Sears. What did that merger accomplish? They/it still went bankrupt and closed.

Satellite television is in a weird state of relevancy and utility. As far as I can tell, neither have plans to launch another satellite and appear ready to wind their services down. It is basically a merger that will potentially sustain satellite television, even when one or the other’s satellites fail. Without the merger, whichever one has the catastrophic satellite failure first, will almost certainly be out of business by default. A merged company might actually be confident enough to launch a new satellite to extend the business model. Kmart & Sears were different style retailers and did not mesh well. Neither was doomed but would have needed to change and/or downsize on their own. I am amazed at how long both have lasted though. Both still have operating locations in this 2024, which is a far cry of the articles that started popping up over 15 years ago predicting imminent demise. Eddie Lampert truly head those together for as long as possible.

My father just divorced Dish after 25 years of bill-raising service. I put a Kill-A-Watt on his DVR (model is over 10 years old) and it was drawing over 300 watts when it records, sometimes up to 500 watts. Now he has KZbinTV paying half as much, and will also have a lower electric bill to boot! When he called to cancel, they offered him a lower rate, to which he declined and said they should've put him on a cheaper plan years ago.

When DirecTV first came out, you had to buy the dish and receiver for about $700 and THEN pay a monthly fee to unlock any channels, even the ones that showed commercials. I thought for sure it would fail, but it became one of the most successful consumer electronics products. Dish at least didn’t make you buy the equipment up front but their content was still crap. I won’t pay to watch commercials that someone is being paid to show me, and I won’t watch any show with a constant channel logo onscreen even for free!

This made a lot more sense 20 years ago. At this point, you’re just raking the leaves into one pile before you gather them up and throw them away. Well, they could consolidate customer bases and service contracts with the content providers. It would be nearly impossible to consolidate infrastructure. Since their respective satellite constellations lie in different parts of the sky, you couldn’t pick them all up on one dish. You’d have to either consolidate under one set of satellites or the other. And since there’s such a great redundancy of channels between the two, you wouldn’t need both sets of satellites. You basically be discarding, one company’s infrastructure and technology in favor of the others. I just don’t see this happening to any effect other than maybe a liquidation sale. Although it would be interesting to see if Charlie Ergen can put two companies out of business.

One more step in the consolidation of the whole television/media world (cable, fiber, streaming, satellite, etc). That's odd saying satellite is becoming irrelevant when Amazon is starting up a satellite broadcast and internet network early next year. It might work if they can combine and complement each other by somehow leveraging the Dish 5G network with Direct TV's satellite network. Now what do you call the combined company, Dish Direct?

How is Direct and Dish merger talks anything new? This is to always be happening? I am sorry but your videos seem to be so biased and you seem to enjoy when cable companies or satellite companies are in trouble. That is why I have a difficult time sitting through your videos. but that curiosity inside me says "mmm wonder what mr streaming has to say about how great streaming is today? I have satellite and rely on it due to my rural area. If they go down, I would hate to rely on streaming as there are not many great options where I live. They too actually would be more expensive with the net included. I too like how my satellite is more user friendly than streaming. As it is great you educate people on streaming as it is always going to be the best choice due to being not as expensive. However, you go on here and promote streaming services that have done nothing anymore but spread so much content on various platforms being more expensive. I too have an OTA antenna, but living in a rural area which does not get me many channels. Plus to get fast internet where I live, it is over 70 dollars. PS. I am not on here to cause friction but think that your videos need to be called out on the downside of streaming as you have no trouble putting up downsides of satellite or cable. Plus spare me the posts on the "no contract" stuff with streaming.

So if the merger happens which it probably will, Sling and Directv internet/stream would probably merge. Do you think they will follow the Directv stream model or the sling model? Meaning with the packages. I hope they do the Sling model with some added locals. I know DIrectv is looking to stop offering locals, and from how they are fighting Disney I think they are just done and either want to merge or bow out. I hear they are losing tons of subs during this blackout, and as a former customer myself, they seem to have a lot of blackouts. I remember going months without my local FOX affiliate, before that my ABC affiliate.
