I really like the overall design. The construction method of making two different pieces and gluing them together, Im not sure about that. I could be wrong but my gut tells me the grain orientation of the handle to the bowl needs to be considered. If one was to actually use it and the handle swelled because of moisture, I see the side of the bowl possibly cracking if the if the grain was parallel to the length.

Not a bad spoon. It reminds me of a spoon for a water pail that someone would have before orange coolers were on every work pickup. It was certainly more interesting than another ice pick. One thing I noticed was at 2:29 if it were a little bit larger you'd have a nice goblet. Maybe this could be the start for a matching wooden place setting?

For my woodworks, I use either the following finish: Scrub/clean away the dirt and debris, sand, and apply a water-based polyurethane. Scrub/clean away the dirt and debris, sand, stain, and apply a water-based polyurethane. Sand away the old varnishes, dust off, and apply Flood's CWF Wood Oil. After whittling away the rough edges on freeform wood pieces to make crosses, I either use oil-based gloss polyurethane, water-based polyurethane, or Flood's CWF Wood Oil. :)

Bubinga is naturally resistant to rot and contains a high amount of natural oils, the vegetable oil would be more of a surface treatment after working to clean it up rather than a conditioner.

Why do you use such a wide blade on the band saw for such tight radii? Wouldn't it be much easier and more precise to use a narrower blade for that?
@nicholaswinder9622
@nicholaswinder9622 9 жыл бұрын
Cancun771 For something being turned, precision isn't a must have as the lathe will take care of that. By the time the blade was changed and everything lined back up, you can have the cut done and being turning the piece.

earzcd I totally agree. However, I would have kept my thumb a little further back. If the blade happened to spin in the pliers the way he was using it in this video it would have been a trip to get some sutures.

You can make nice lathe tools for detailing from old spade bits. But I'm careful with bits wider than about 3/4 to 1 inch because of the thin 1/4" -5/16" shank.

Cool spoon/dipper. Could a pair of identical spoons be made on the lathe in one piece? A ball and handle cut in half, then scooped out. Of course it can, you can do anything, I only make a mess. I have lots of ideas but not the talent you have.
