In this special Halloween episode of DiResta, Jimmy wields a slasher-worthy kitchen knife and goes all Norman Bates on a block of styro. When the carnage is over, he emerges with a sweet Star Wars stormtrooper helmet for Halloween. We suggest you might want to employ a slightly less murderous carving tool.
In each bi-monthly episode of DiResta (every other Wednesday at 2pm PT), artist and master builder Jimmy DiResta ("Dirty Money," "Hammered," "Against the Grain," "Trash for Cash") lets us into his workshop, to look over his shoulder while he builds whatever strikes his fancy.

i normally dont like videos where people are making things but dont explain what their doing but this is well put together with no slow dragging sequences so it gets my seal of approval.

Gotta love how ignorant people are, "Make a foam cutter" - "You should use a foam cutter" - Jimmy is a Master Craftsmen, like he doesn't know whats best for the job for fuck sake.
@wupme

DOOMGUY aparrently he didn't knew what was best. Hate to burst your bubble but jimmy is good with wood and metal, not with foam. Everytime he uses foam his projects are mediocre at best. And this piece just proofs that he is simply not good at this.

I'm a little disappointed that he didn't just use a solvent like acetone to dissolve out the polystyrene...

I know I'm late to the party, and that most comments criticizing the piece were made months ago, but I'd just like to say, I do not understand why no one gets that the reason Jimmy didn't go ham on this piece and make it perfect is because he didn't want to. Everything else he makes always has a practical purpose and so he puts all the time and effort in the world into them because he wants to. This Stormtrooper helmet was most likely made a a fun side project that he obviously is not going to use for more than a week out of the year, and so he didn't spend hours upon hours perfecting the design and painting and finishing and all that. It just wasn't a priority. So all you saying that he ruined the piece and that its his worst, or that he could have made it better, no, he made it exactly how he wanted it. Could he have made it better? Absolutely, Diresta could have made it better than anyone, but the fact is, he just didn't want to. Theres nothing wrong with what he made.
@kedwa30
@kedwa30 9 жыл бұрын
I hear ya! It was a Halloween costume, not meant to be a working replica. I'm sure if he was going to make it with a more practical purpose in mind such as making an actual helmet with an air filter built in, then this would have been a lot more involved and it would have been a lot more polished at the end. :)

Just google XPS Foam and see what pops up locally for you. It's not something that's readily available where I'm at, so I have to special order it in. Other locales have it right in Lowes and Home Depot.
