It's 2024. I'm listening to this on my headphones, in my uni library. My head's the only one bobbing away, adrenaline pumping through my veins... This is the greatest song, and the greatest concert, bar none. I'm in my 20s now. I wish I was born earlier to witness this concert first-hand. But I'm greateful. Grateful that this gem exists. To explain what I mean, try to hear Sultans of Swing (the studio - original - version) and then listen to the Alchemy version. Same goes for Private Investigation or Romeo and Juliet. That remarkable intro before Tunnel of Love in the live version... Whenever I hear the studio versions, the songs are amazing; and then I hear the alchemy version... The studio version i played essentially every single day from the first day it was released in Australia up until late 2022 when i finally gave in to my interest of hearing this song done live. Took me 40 years essentially to make the switch to this version now being my my ultimayte number one of all time for most of my life, followed by the studio version , then Disturbeds version of Sound of Silence. The only songs that bring me to tears and i'm not ashamed to admit that 🙂

Agreed, it was a golden age of music. That said, there are still great musicians making great music that they compose on their own today. magnum opus, not magnus opus GPT says: In Latin, adjectives must agree with the nouns they modify in gender, number, and case. The Latin word "opus," which means "work," is a neuter noun. Therefore, the adjective describing it must also be in its neuter form. The adjective "magnus," which means "great," has different forms depending on the gender of the noun it modifies: - **Magnus** is the masculine form. - **Magna** is the feminine form. - **Magnum** is the neuter form. Since "opus" is neuter, the correct form of "great" to use is "magnum." Thus, "magnum opus" translates to "great work," with both words in the appropriate forms according to Latin grammatical rules.

I just learned that this song was actually inspired, in part, by the Telegraph Road of my childhood. It goes from Toledo all the way to Detroit. It flips me out to think that my favorite artists, (from England) were on a bus on the road we’d take to drive up to Michigan to get our contraband underage beer! They didn’t card up there. It’s a road that went through farm country. Corn and tomato and cucumber country. If you think you don’t like tomatoes, it’s because you’ve never had one grown in the fertility of the olden-days’ Midwest sun-baked, thunderstormed, earthwormed soil, and then kept out of the fridge. The corn was so fresh, its silk was a juicy treat to eat while shucking it. Cucumbers were actually musky as they should be, back then. There was no such thing as a bad watermelon. My aunts, Reeni and Janie Nussbaum, had a farm on Telegraph Road. We’d go there in summer for corn and sausage boils. In the evening, fresh from the tub, we’d run into the acres side yard, barefoot, in pajamas, catching fireflies before collapsing on the twin beds next to breezy open windows and cricket song. In the morning I’d wake to the scents of the sun heating the wooden window frames and bed linens. What a time to be alive. Before the internet. I love that Knopfler was reading an esoteric book while riding a bus on Telegraph Road. That’s what we did back then. We’d read. We’d visit. So, here is a superlative song, and performance, by my favorite band, inspired by vestiges of my childhood’s Midwest farm country. Inspired by a talent’s erudition. I moved from my beloved Ohio in 1980, but the last time I rode up Telegraph, in 2016, from Toledo to Temperance, I was warmed to see some familiar farms still there. Including one with a truly familiar name on a metal plate hanging from a porch awning: Nussbaum

Kids, this belongs to an era where bad students did not have video-games or KZbin, so instead they used to spend hours and hours playing instruments. The result: magic like this. Not possible anymore.
@nanagraupel10 ай бұрын
Magic like this Always exists in some people (like sorrow and passion), no matter what social environment you have around. He was a Genius, the only difference...today he would not be understood. 😢
@joanvallve764710 ай бұрын
@@nanagraupel I agree passion is a necessary ingredient, but not the only one. This kind of magic can only happen if you (the whole group) trained hours and hours daily during years. And nobody is training that hard anymore. So, forget it.
@johnmillis10 ай бұрын
On the contrary. It belongs to an era when kids did have video games, but they had to go out to the arcades to play them. A time when kids were together in the real world - not a weird virtual world. A time when kids were creative. I am proud to say I am one of those kids.
@joanvallve764710 ай бұрын
@@johnmillis what you see in the video is not mainly about being creative. It is about having played so many thousands and thousands of hours as a kid, that the instrument has become an extension of the brain. Creativity will never disappear. There will always be creative people. But the result depends strongly on your potential execution. And no way people can master an instrument like the band here, when you spend tthousands of hours playing video-games or watching you tubers instead of practising.
@nanagraupel10 ай бұрын
@@joanvallve7647 don't think so, you don't know all the bands in the world. Now social forums tell the rules instead of labels. The result: stupid Kids decide what we hear. Think about It.

This is an absolute benchmark: guys who easily know how to play to 11, play with subtleties of pause, rhythm changes and quiet moments, all in the right measure, yet going around earworm riff and great story to tell. This is a masterpiece.

Inspired by Detroit's Telegraph Road. Imagine taking a bus trip and seeing it for the first time and from it a veritable masterpiece is born. 14 minutes of pure classic rock heaven.
