It's normal all thus compressor are mesured at normalised distance that is 4m for DB. It is written on the certification of the product. It would be interesting to mesure the noise at 4 m to compare.

Exactly what i am looking for, i also use it for laser, but the one i had until today is the Scheppach 50l vertical. Loud as hell. I was always afraid of that the piston will fails one day, instead the motor died which has nothing to do with the use, but a poor construction of wiring. Anyway, i am looking for this one to buy. How does it serve you today?

It still works fine, maybe it's gotten a bit louder - but it is working the way you'd expect.

Thanks for a such thorough review! really appreciated! I saw in one of your comments you added some silencing mods. Can you please elaborate a bit about those or even better links? :)

If you need your compressor "wake-up" early , start charging at higher pressure than now, you can tune the pressure switch. Inside there are two setup screws or bolts for maximum pressure and minimum "wake-up" pressure. I don't really know wich are the max or min screw, so, be careful and don't touch the max.

For my application the values are set pretty much perfectly. Comes on at 6 shuts of at 8 bar.

So 79 lwa should read 59 Wtf instead?

By the magic of marketing: yes. 79LWA is sold as 59db(A).

59 dB is Lpa

Nice review, is what I looking for. I look for a new air compressor and I'm a little confused about LWA db, db(A) and LPA db. Another big problem are the air copressors that show 59db on the front, they could be a real 59db or not! I look labels on two air compressors at work: one is a traditional 50lt 2hp oil engine with LWA 93db on the label; the second one is a big 100lt with belt trasmission and big oil engine with same LWA 93db mesure. The first one is really noisy, like a 2T grass trimmer at maximum power and the second one feel like a scooter noise at idle. They have same db but they feel totally different! I look at the same stanley compressor because there aren't many vertical 50lt, silent and chep models. I look many reviews about silent or supersilent compressors and the same compressor feel noisy or quiet because noise reduction microphones, I think. I noticed, but I'm not sure, supersilents compressors are really 59db and silent compressor are fake 59db, maybe 70db/65db.

Yes. LWA and LPA are pretty much meaningless values, because LPA is measured directly at the device, and LWA may be measured at a distance between 7 and 15 meters from the device, depending on the type of the device (generator, compressor, leaf-blower). dB(A) however is measured at 1m ... so these values are just wrong. Also: LWA and LPA are already in dB so, it's LWA 79 (7) or LWA(7) 79 meaning 79dB at 7 meters. The fun thing is: When I contacted Stanley about the device and the numbers involved they immediately made it clear that it was not one of theirs, but just a partner product, and they would not comment on the numbers and values. From what I was able to measure: the compressor is LWA(7) 79. 79dB at 7m open area. 59dB at 10m. With the improved silencer I can get it to 70dB in a corner of my workshop with the corners behind the compressor covered with sound absorbing foam. For the money I spent, that's a good result.

@@dherrendoerfer Lwa is measured at 0m and lpa at a distance. This stanley has thus a lwa of 79

It is a quiet compressor. If it would be at 160 euro, I would buy it right away. I could not find anywhere under £200, in UK. It's a 50Liter air tank which is great for the price. But lets get back to noise. When the air tank or air receiver drum is empty, the compressor is quieter (exerts less work done). When the tank is getting close to full and the compressor is under more stress because of the higher (7 to 8barg) of air pressure, of course it would be noisier than 59dB. I am really glad that they made it to 74dB. It is not whisper quiet, though. At least it is not irritating loud. (Very close to the same dB, for a person having a conversation.) I wish I could buy one at this price... Please, leave another feedback a year from now. I am interested, how reliable is it - as you have said.

It's available again right now: www.amazon.de/gp/product/B08C4P7TBV/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 The secret to getting it to be silent seems to be the intake filter and dampener. I made pretty good progress in silencing it a bit more.

@@dherrendoerfer That’s what I was trying to figure out. There are many silent or supersilet compressors with exactly same engine with differents noise levels. I think the noise differences are made from little things like different air filters, engine dampeners, fan or plasic cases... I noticed silent compressors, as reservoir connection, have flexible pipe instead of metal one of oil compressors. This could reduce the noise spread, but hold out less pressure this is why they are all 8bar instead of 10bar
