As an old Chesapeake Bay sailor, I can tell you that this beauty, with all the wooden brightwork, would keep you busy taking care of it. I remember when my dad’s Chris Craft was mostly wood, we’d spend hours sanding and varnishing the wood every spring to make it ready for the summer season. Fiberglass may have no soul, but it’s sure easier. You may “love all the wood” when you’re touring someone else’s boat, but if you were responsible to keep it shining, you’d lose your mind.

I live in the thimble Islands, long island sound ct. A few years ago there was a gathering of a cruising club where approximately 100 beautiful yachts both sail and power that anchored in the shelter of the islands. All the boats were impeccably maintained and uniquely different. This vessel was one of the fleet. Never had I seen so many stunning yachts laying at anchor in my back yard. And the next morning.....they were all gone.

Interesting to see the Iva W again , about 7 years ago I built the windows and doors on the upper pilot house and some other work. My brother in law rebuilt the round stern and engine . That is a true old school engine giant size and slow turning. I hope the new owner realize How much surface area a boat like this has when it’s time to paint and varnish.

@@kevinday193 Well it's in new condition now so Depending on the water conditions every few months have a bottom cleaning service come and clean the hull of growth on the bottom and a wash above the water line as when needed .run a systems check once a month including running the engine .and always keep a look out for the bright work and keep it clean and polished and for the wood work always check for weathering .and do all the basic maintenance on time and you should be good for a year or more the other thing you have the hull cleaners look at is the zincs .these are most important .and take it out once and awhile and give it some run time .and always look in the bilges every time your on board and look for any sign of water stains or standing water .as time goes buy you will need to sand and re varnish all the wood as it weathers .doing cleaning and maintenance on a wooden boat is the most important thing for a wooden boat If this is not done things can and will go bad very quickly .

Beautiful and in pristine condition. But I would suggest a couple of important lay-out adjustments before anything. Like transforming the lower double bed into another head, ending the extra passway on the main deck, which imposes ducking when below and adding a head to the master cabin (no problem to expand aft). That being said, it look heavy and unstable. I can see her in rivers and lakes.

From outside this looks exactly like a traditional SE Asian fishing boat. That part of the world is covered with them: Big two story house on the back, clear forward for working, no idea about the interior of the Asdian ones, but I would presume a big hold for the catch more or less where that forward doghouse sits on the deck. They are usually set up for both purse net and trawling, and have some sail capability although i never saw one under sail, so it might be purely foir stabilization.

Amazing character on a very old boat with an amazing history.... Perfectly built for the Chesapeake or other well protected waters. The *only* thing that would really make me worry (and would be part of a very VERY thorough survey if I were going to seriously pursue this vessel) would be that diesel. It's ancient and, based on where it's located in the hull, would likely be prohibitively expensive to re-power should it catastrophically fail. This is going to be someone's ultimate awesome vessel and I hope the new owners have a great time with it.

The sail isn't for sailing. It's for keeping the boat from rolling back and forth in a beam sea, which can get very uncomfortable with all that top structure. The sail acts as the keel on a sailboat, sort of, by buffering the rolling motion as it scoops air back and forth. many workboat types use them.

1:41 You'd be surprised how much putting a sail up in the fore, once properly adjusted, will help keep the boat on track and steering true, you might pick up a knot or two as well as see a (usually) slight drop in fuel consumption; sometimes not so slight~ depending on the sails, the winds, the currents, the vessel's shape and structure. Not so great when frequently turning/changing coarse, but if you have an extra hand tending just to that it ain't so bad (this is usually a great job for the 12-14 year old on board; it's not a _"hard job"_ but important enough and requires just enough judgement to make it somewhat fulfilling when done well).

Even at the rediculously optimistic price of $5 / gallon of fuel, it would run $1,200 to fill it up and that would only take you, at best, 500 miles? I think this may explain the very favorable asking price. It sure is nice to look at , though.

Yes it is nice. Zero doubt there. However I have a question about the refit. When a refit takes place there are crucial factors to take into specs. If not completely correct the boat will actually be very vulnerable at sea. The bow, the curve of the bow, including the load stability of beam etc. far too many have sunk because someone meant well but went way overboard so to speak with a refit. So it is just as crucial as it is functional and done correctly. Who can answer this question without bias?
