A little throwback to a bike we build several years ago for the magazine. A JGR built Yamaha YZ250 2 stroke. This bike features a ton of trick components and we got to shake it down in Idaho with the WPS crew.

I can understand why Honda wont bring back 2 strokes and Kawasaki is frankly to large to care but Suzuki is just throwing way money by not producing the RM250 and RM125 again.

Something that boggles my mind about Suzuki is they helped put pressure on the AMA to kill off the 500 class while at the same time developing a rather good 500cc two stroke engine for their Quadzilla. The management at Suzuki and the choices it makes really does leave one wondering sometimes.

@Brayden - Yeah remember when the Suzuki Samurai jeep was really popular but I am not sure their auto division is doing all that well these days. Perhaps they would sell enough RM125s and 250s to fund their race teams since the fourstroke sales clearly are not (Suzuki shut down their factory GP 250 and 450 efforts this year and have not had a full factory team in the US since Dungey raced for them).

Sweet looking bike, sounds awesome. Now put it head to head with a 2018 yzf450 and cut the PR. Bull crap and tell how it actually is. Hope the 2T scores well.

Now that's a backplate where you can put number on. I rather have this kind of back plates than the new slim ones "a la KTM". Maybe a little bit slimmer than this one. (Yeah, i'm bitchy like that xD )

Because they want to sell 4 strokes as the flagship race bike. Some say its emissions but thats horse shit. There aint no emission friendly 4 stroke race bikes anyway. I think the main reason is to sell bikes that cost way more. Cost way more to fix and maintain meaning they make more cash off us suckers that buy 4 strokes. The noise of 4 strokes successfully closed down my local track. The noise closed my buddies track in sudbury also. We only had the odd complaint before the 4 stroke craze started. Id ride electric bikes if it meant we could re-open our tracks. So use your heads kids... loud bikes.... close riding areas...

Sick bike, now stop talking about how it is a 450 4t kick arse destroyer and put that thing up against an 18YZ450 and smash that 4t and show all these easily manipulated millennials that 2t rule, always have always will, only marketing and rules have held back the technology of the superior 2t, this is what a real SX/MX bike should sound like, aim not anti 4t aim anti BS, and SX is not the place for 4t esp 450s!,, good work JGR better than before, stronger, faster, 6 million dollar “sounding 2t” better than the over priced twice the capacity and extra weight of the 450, wtf is wrong with this gen of rule makers, seriously.. sold out..

You may be a bit overexcited my friend... If a 250 2t could smash a 450 there would be plenty of these at the races... If there are none at a pro level it is just because the 450 is faster. Try the two back to back and you will easily understand why. Don't get me wrong, I love the two strokes and come myself from the two strokes era, but a 450 is on another level: instant, easy to use power everywhere.

Well, I own both a 250 2t and a 450 4t and I can tell you that the 450 is something else. Nowadays, the comparison is more between the same displacement. For exemple, here in the Canadian Nationals, the riders can choose to ride a 4t or a 2t of the same displacement. Roughly, in the 250 class, there are like 2/3 of the guys on 4t and 1/3 on the 2t. This year the 4t dominate and were in front, while a few years back, a 2t won the championship. It really mostly depends on the rider. Motocross Action have a great article comparing a 250 4t and a 250 2t. The 2T is stronger but have a much narrower, harder to use powerband. All in all, the lap times are very similar but it is much easier to be consistent on the 4t.

there are certain circumstances where a 2t has an advantage but overall the 4t's are faster and more capable with a good rider and bike setup and then with some engine work there's no debate

Im sure if that tri-z is clean enough and near original someone who collects trikes would buy you a brandnew yz250 to own a tri-z. I got 4500 bucks for a like new very very low hours 83 trimoto 200e that was show room mint.
