It's a lot cheaper than payments, interest, new car registration and tax fees and so forth. And we know what we've got, because we've had it since it's had about 5,000 mi on it. Thanks again for writing!

If all tires show good pressure check to see if you are using a usb charger plugged into the power outlet. Some chargers will interfere with tpms signal and show up as a low tire or check engine light referring to loss of signal from tpms sensors. Nissan are more sensitive to this issue. Unplug USB power adapter and see of code doesn’t disappear in a day or after a few restarts. The cheaper the usb power adapter the higher chance it will give off emf that causes these issues.

On my 2011 Honda CR-V, a lot of times during the winter my TPMS light comes on usually as the temps drop below 30 degrees. Sometimes it goes off if I am driving a far distance, I assume because the tire warmed up. But the light never comes on in the summer. And it's never because the tires are low. I see this system as a hassle and extra expense. But only because I'm religious about checking the tires once a month so always know when my tires are low. I am sure they are great for people that do not check them or check very rarely.

I don't need a high-line TPMS system to tell me which specific tire is low. The cost of maintaining this type of system farrrrrr outweighs the benefits. The sensors are expensive, need replaced after a few years because of cheap batteries, the labour cost to install, relearn and retrain the sensors is ridiculous. With a low line system I never have to worry about replacing any sensors because there are no dedicated sensors. The low tire pressure light comes on, I take out my tire gauge and check the psi on each tire manually, add air to the offending tire(s) and the warning light disappears immediately - beautiful. Thank god my 2018 Ford Escape is a low-line system. No having to turn the key this way and that way 50 times, wait 200 seconds and repeat, just to get rid of the light, ridiculous lol

Hi Jay, just went through this with my 2010 Hyundai. Except there was one more item for your list. Because we had cold weather and snow I didn't want to start up my air compressor so just took the car to our local Les Schwab since our tires are under warranty there. They checked all the air and all about 10 psi low. The TPMS tire icon light on the dash didn't go off so the next day took it back to them thinking maybe the spare tire they didn't check after watching a KZbin video. Well, it was #5 on you new list. The TPMS sensor inside the tire was loose and I guess they screwed it into the tire. Anyway they put it together and the light went off. Best thing no cost and I just sat in there lobby drinking my morning coffee. Cause was maybe hitting pot holes that the county are busy filling is my guess. Tim from "Tims Workshop TJY"

Thanks Jay. Why does Ford tell me to inflate my tires to 35 psi on my 2007 F150, when the tire itself says 80 psi? I remember the issues with the Explorer and Firestone. The Explorer was not stable, and Fords solution was to under-inflate the tires, which caused blowouts.... I run my tires at 50 psi to improve gas mileage, and it handles fine. I don't trust Ford's recommendation. My tire guy says I could go higher. What do you think? My low pressure symbol stays on all the time, even with all tires full.
@DirtFarmerJay2 жыл бұрын
William, you are not the first one to ask this, and in fact, I had a similar experience. I believe you will find that the pressure on the side of the tire is the "max" pressure, the pressure that that tire has been rated for before tire damage would occur due to overpressure. This isn't the pressure that tire handles best at. If the tires on your vehicle are the same size or very similar to what it was originally outfitted for, then the pressure on the placard on the driver's door jamb is fine to go with. Yes, you can run more if you want, but there are trade-offs. You are creating a less flexible tire, so you will probably get better gas mileage due to less rolling resistance. But, you can diminish handling characteristics (less side-to-side flexibility), as well as braking distance due to the "contact patch" of the tire (the amount of tire tread in contact with the road at any given second) being smaller. As for the TPMS showing a message ongoing, something is off. Three things come to mind: 1.) the sensors have not been put through the "learning" process the last time you had tires installed or rotated, 2.) you have a sensor in one of your tires that are either improperly installed or has a dead battery, or isn't transmitting for some reason, or, 3. your spare is pressured too low and is causing the message. I hope this helps. Get the system checked out, you want to have the TPMS working for you. Best, DFJ

Got 4 new sensors put on. Blinks for a minute at startup into solid. Scan tool picked up all 4, tried 2 different tire shops for relearn, spare was check and has 60 PSI. any other ideas?
@DirtFarmerJayАй бұрын
Wow, you've got a mystery on your hands. The sensors are transmitting if the scan tool picks them up. Two possibilities come to mind for me - even though it is inflated, the spare has a low-power sensor and it's tripping the dash icon. You didn't mention if the spare does have a sensor and if the scan "saw" it. Check that. Next, if all is in order, it sounds like something is wrong with the TPMS module if it can't "relearn." These are computers, so it's possible it has something in its memory that is taking precedence and won't allow new info to be entered, or it's simply gone bad. Be persistent and let me know what resolution is finally worked out for your situation. Best Regards, DFJ

Thank you for the information. 👍 However I am a bit confused because in my Kia Picanto car the tire pressure on the door side says one thing, but it says a slightly different pressure in the manual. 🤔 Door says equal pressure front and back. While manual says more air in front than back. 🤔 Last time I did what the manual says, and light went off. But now it's back on and it isn't long ago that I filled the tires. I'm confused why the door and the manual would say different pressure. 🤔 Maybe I should go for what the door says instead of the manual then. I don't know.
@DirtFarmerJay2 жыл бұрын
Because its likely the tires have been replaced more than once, go with the pressure on the tire sidewalls. Since the tires are likely not the original tires from the factory, use the pressures displayed on your tire's sidewalls. It's possible the battery is low in one of the TPMS units.I think that's likely given that you usually don't see a low pressure indicator unless the tire is 20 to 25% underinflated. Since you recently inflated your tires, it seems unlikely that you'd be losing that much pressure. Hope this helps. DFJ

@DirtFarmerJay Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and writing! There are variations of the indirect TPMS system, so they don't all behave or operate the same. Seeing that you have an ongoing issue occurring on this very nice car, you'll have to check a few things that at the outset may not make sense. Even so, the problem exists, and so you'll need to be creative. A few things come to mind: 1. check the spare for correct pressure. It can be transmitting is some way and fouling up things for you. Unlikely, but check anyway. 2. Have you changed out one of the tires lately due to road damage on that one tire? If so, the slight difference in tread circumference with a new tire and 3 others with slight wear can set off the system. 3. What condition are the brake rotors and pads in? If you've got one of the rotors with higher pad pressure than the others, it's possible that that tire is turning ever-so-slightly slower than the others, and the TPMS is "seeing" this as low tire pressure/higher rolling resistance. If these don't solve it or set you in the right track, I'd see if I could finds a Mercedes Benz mechanics forum and see what they are saying to each other about this issue.
