12:59 The reason Penny had an attitude was that she had just told Baby about being kicked out of her home at 16 and having to survive on her own, making a living as a dancer, and Baby, who's at an expensive resort with her family on vacation, tells her that she envies her, which shows that Baby is pretty clueless about how hard Penny's life has been, and that she doesn't realize how lucky and privileged she is.

Patrick and Jennifer actually didn't get along very well due to their experience together during Red Dawn, though they managed to work things out by the end of finishing this movie and later became real close friends. Jennifer's smile during the final lift was genuine because that was the first time she actually completed it. She later honored Patrick during her appearance on Dancing with the Stars (after his passing) and ultimately won her season.

Patrick was a professional dancer (mostly ballet) for awhile but surgery for an old football injury went wrong and messed up his knee and put an end to his dance career. Doing this movie had him in constant pain because of his knee. Thankfully, for us, he decided to try acting. Patrick also sang the song "She's Like The Wind" that's in the movie when he's saying goodbye to Baby.

Jennifer Grey's career as an actress was short-lived. She was in Red Dawn, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, and Dirty Dancing. Then she had a nose job done because she was told her nose was too big for her to get the kind of roles she wanted, but after the nose job she was completely unrecognizable as her old self, and nobody cast her in anything anymore.

First time I was exposed to Swayze was when he was in The Outsiders, then Ghost, then Too Wong Foo as a kid. So I’d seen him as quite a variety of acting range just from those alone. Then I saw him in this in middle school, and seeing dancing Swayze was fire. Just fire. I was amazed. He was a real triple threat. What a performer. He and Jennifer did not get along very well at all when they first began. Fighting got so bad they brought the two in and had them watch themselves in their dancing rehearsal video. And they saw that fiery chemistry in the way they moved together; afterwards they both worked well together after that. Chemistry is such a funny concept. Glad you guys enjoyed this! :)

Scouring my brain for FYI info; Swayze's breakout roll was in 1983's The outsiders & 1984's Red Dawn. He started out as a dancer & was happily married for many yrs to his Ballet dancer wife Lisa.

It's only fair since Asia had to watch 300 :) On Swayze: I will say it's surprising the many talents some actors have which support their career choice. Singing, dancing, playing an instrument, magic, etc. They want to earn those roles and excel.

Patrick was hardcore. So dedicated to perfection that the scene where he is jumping off of the stage, it had to be reshot so many times that he was in intense pain. But, he jumped, over and over and over again, until it was right. He worked really hard at everything he did. It was never halfway with him.

I used to work as a zoo manager in the town (outskirts) of Catskill. In the spring, I would deliver brochures to all the other attractions in the area for their racks, and also to about 2 dozen resorts within about 10 miles. There were Italian, Irish, German and Jewish resorts scattered throughout the area. Families would go and stay for weeks or months at a time from New York city, New Jersey, and Long Island.

The actress who plays Baby's mom in this movie (Kelly Bishop) is also the mother/grandmother in Gilmore Girls, Emily. And that wasn't a coincidence that she and the father (Jerry Orbach) were dancing so well together during that final song, they both have experience on Broadway :).

Patrick Swayze was so talented. He was a trained dancer. He was born and raised in Texas and took a lot of flack for being a dancer. His wife Lisa Niemi was a dancer as well. That man was good looking, outgoing, and very graceful.

29:58 Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey had worked together previously on the movie "Red Dawn" and they had *not* gotten along, so there was tension on the set between them. When they got to a point at one time where they would not even speak with each other anymore, the director pulled them both aside, sat them down, and showed them their screen tests, which included the dance from this scene. Reportedly, Jennifer looked and Patrick and said, "Damn, we are HOT!" and they went back to work with renewed enthusiasm. By the end of the production, they had become fast friends, and he had nothing but praise for her acting ability and the way she approached the role.

One of my favorite movies and some of it was filmed in Pembroke, VA, not far from where I lived growing up. It's right next to Pearisburg, VA which was founded by one of my great grandfathers Capt. George Pearis. They are both towns in the county of Giles, VA where several generations of my family came from. Been to the location a couple of times and put my name in the guestbook. Lol. ❤️

One of those movies I forget people haven’t seen before. We had a vcr as kids, and we had cable with HBO. That was big back then. We’d record every movie. This one…I have seen it soo many times, it’s criminal. I love it. I fell in love with Patrick Swayze in a series he did when I was a kid called North and South, about the civil war. He was one of the main characters. This movie just solidified it for me. I was all of 7 when it came out. 😂 His mother was a dancing teacher. He was gifted in soo many ways. May he rest in peace. I’m glad y’all liked it. The scene when she tells her father he failed her as well always makes me cry. And who could NOT love the end dance scene?! My grandmother always loved that their feet move so perfectly in sync as they dance up the aisle. Makes me wanna watch it for the millionth time 😂❤

An iconic film in the late 80's. I'm 42 now. At the time I was about 7 or 8 years old with 3 older sisters. We got it on VHS and they had it on everyday for weeks. Reckon I can remember every line, it was on that much lol. "Nobody puts baby in the corner"😂😂😂

One of my favorite films! Great reaction! Some fun facts from the story's background. Baby and her family are Jewish and attending a Jewish-owned resort over the summer in the Catskills (upstate NY). These resorts ( and some in Miami) became popular amongst Jews because they were barred from attending resorts in the Hamptons ( populated by WASPs) from the 1950s until the 1970's s. Like Baby it was popular for Jewish kids to join the Peace Corps and be involved in activism, specifically The Civil Rights Movement ( as mentioned earlier in the film by both Baby ( Peace Corps ) and Neil ( the Freedom Riders ). I’m Jewish, my family and I attended a similar “resort” in the Catskills for many years in the late 80’s & early 90’s, my mom’s name is Frances.😊

This was filmed at Lake Lure NC ( I think the original place was in the Catskills of NY) but they filmed most of this Movie in NC Settle into Johnny's Cabin or Baby's Bungalow, both spacious Dirty Dancing-themed cabins. Although none of the film was shot at the Inn, the landscape at nearby Camp Chimney Rock - including its original cabins, dining hall and gymnasium - were used in the film. Many of the film's most famous scenes were shot at Lake Lure. The nearby Rumbling Bald Resort's golf course was used for the scene where Grey asks her dad for money, and the Esmeralda Inn was used for interior dance shots.

Great movie guys, one of my all time favourites. Patrick Swayze was a trained ballet dancer before he became an actor. His mother taught him, she had a dance studio in Texas. Of course Jennifer Grey’s dad is Joel Grey.. One of the most famous Broadway dancers ever, also won an Oscar, Golden Globe and an Emmy. . So you know Jennifer had the best teacher in the world. You should check out the movie Caberet with him and Liza Minnelli . He’s still alive at 90 years of age.

This movie always lightens the day!❤I wish they’d bring back family vacation spots like this, again…but first, they have to bring back REAL summer breaks; a FULL THREE MONTHS off. And gotta pay people adequately so they can afford to save up for family vacations. Then, the campsites would need LOTS of security w/ HD cameras everywhere because people really do be suckin’ these days and can’t be trusted for much of nothin’. 😅 edit: I’d like to recommend reacting to the movies: “Bicentennial Man”, “Powder”, and “Meet Joe Black”.
