"she's like the wind" ❤️ was written for Grandview USA (Jamie Lee Curtis) it was not going to be used in the film so Patrick Swayze rest in power thought for it to be used here. 💯 There was a period of a few years where I wasn't allowed to see movies because of their title such as "Octopussy" 🙂 no bullshit ✅

Patrick's mother was a dance instructor and he was a professional ballet dancer before he became an actor so he should be a good dancer. He only stopped dancing professionally because of surgery gone wrong on an old knee injury from when he played football. It completely messed up his knee. Filming this movie he was in a lot of pain.

I had a crush on him from the short-lived tv show, The Renegades. I kept trying to get my friends to watch it, but it ended before any of them did. Right around the same time, The Outsiders came out, and I was no longer the only Swayze fan in my friend group.

What I like about the last dance where they do the lift is the fact that back when he was teaching her in the woods he told her "You have to trust me or else you can hurt me". Meaning she finally does trust him (to hold her up).

I think it’s not as simple and superficial a story as you might think watching it the first time. In fact, there are many layers to it, and there’s many things going on beside the dancing and the love story per se; they’re actually not what this film is about. It’s about class differences in society in the early 60’s, and it’s also a coming-of-age story for the main character Baby who becomes disillusioned with the sheltered world she grew up in and becomes a confident young woman. It’s not only her that undergoes a transformation, but all of the other main characters as well. Even the sister’s character has had some development in the end, but the most important one is between Baby and her father. So you see, it’s not that simplistic as you might’ve thought at first glance, but there’s much more to it if you’re willing to look a bit deeper. 😊

I was a senior in high school when this movie came out, so I was basically the target audience, and of course I LOVED it. It's such a weird sixties-as-imagined-by-the-eighties mess, but it's a simple, sweet love story at heart, and it works. It's also the first time I recall ever seeing abortion addressed in mainstream entertainment. My generation was the first to come of age with those rights, and this reminded us not to take that for granted.

I had a '57 Chevy Bel Air HT like Johnny's only silver. It was my 1st car. I worked after school, on Sat., & summers at a supermarket to pay for it & to afford to go out on Fri. & Sat. nights. If you were a 14-18 yr. old (hormonal) boy with the choice to go to a dance & spend hrs. "dirty dancing" with multiple girls your own age what else would you do? The only thing that I can remember being better was a date to a drive-in theater. Both would be followed up with cruising to a drive-in hamburger joint before going home. "Dirty Dancing" was my era & it was fun!

I didnt see this movie when it came out until years later when I saw it on TV. During December of 1987 I bought a 68 Chevy Impala..I was 27 at the time. Seemed like everytime I turned on the car radio.."Hungry Eyes" was playing. That's why every time I hear that song it reminds me of that car.

"Nobody puts Baby in a corner." Classic, sexy movie. 😎 👍 Fun Fact: The "Cry To Me" love scene has been voted one of the sexiest movie moments in cinematic history. Music Enthusiast Fact: The song "She's Like The Wind" was co-written by Patrick Swayze with Stacy Widelitz and sung by Patrick Swayze himself. Genuine Moment Fact: The very famous scene where Johnny (Patrick Swayze) and Baby (Jennifer Grey) are practicing their dancing and they are crawling towards each other on the floor wasn't intended to be part of the film; they were just messing around and were warming up to do the real scene, but director Emile Ardolino liked it so much, he kept it in the film.

I like this movie, largely because there's more going on than just the dancing & summer romancing. People tend to miss the class warfare element. I don't know how people miss it; it's not that subtle. I like movies that have multiple layers like that. My favorite movie of all time, the 1987 version of RoboCop, does that, too. Back in the 50s and 60s there were a lot of places like that to vacation, mainly because traveling by plane wasn't an option because it was very expensive. When in the late 70s and 80s plane tickets became more affordable, places like this to vacation started to dissappear. The scene where Patric Swayze passes his hand on her armpit and she laughs is actually real as well as his annoyance. The man that plays Baby's father is Lumiere's voice actor on Beauty and The Beast. In fact, the characters face is based on his.

Bit of trivia. "Time of My Life", a number 1 hit, was sung by Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes. Bill was one half of the Righteous Brothers who were very big in the '60s. His partner, Bobby Hatfield, did a solo version of "Unchained Melody", which was the background music for the "Ghost" love scene. That song was a big hit in the '60s, and despite being recorded 26 years earlier, became a big hit again in 1990. I suspect Swayze was a Righteous Brothers fan.

After the movie was released, the song "Time of My Life", performed by Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes, became a number 1 hit. Bill was one half of the Righteous Brothers, who had many big hits in the'60s. Having a number 1 hit 20 years after his hayday, is a somewhat unique achievement for a vocalist. Bill's partner, Bobby Hatfield, had a big hit in the '60s with a solo version of "Unchained Melody". Bobby's recording of that song was used as background music in Swayze's 1990 movie "Ghost". Despite being recorded 26 years earlier it once again was a big hit. I think that is unique. Those guys could sing!

Dirty Dancing is an anomaly of a movie for me. I've always liked it, but at the same time realize it's cheesy, yet somehow it's GOOD cheese. Also, I don't really like musicals and even though the movie is not technically a musical, music and dance sequences are a huge part of the film's plot. Also, it's funny how it's set in the 60s, yet has a very 80s vibe being made in 1987 and some of the music is definitely 80s soundtrack as well as some of the characters like Baby have distinctively 80s hairstyles. The 80s could get away with stuff like this that other decades don't pull off as well, imo.

If you're looking for another drama/comedy with some musical elements periodically, that is set around the same time period (late 50s/early 60s), then check out the (Amazon Prime - but also available on DVD & Blu-Ray) Emmy award winning TV series 'The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel' (whereas in one particular season for several episodes they even feature a summer resort that the main characters go to that is very similar to the one featured in 'Dirty Dancing', which also gave me such 'Dirty Dancing' nostalgia vibes 😁).

Watch the SNL skit with Patrick Swayze and Chris Farley on KZbin. Michelle will understand Swayze's appeal even more. 😉 Y'all need to watch Pretty Woman next.

It is a resort for rich people and in the Poconos in NY. It is a resort, not a camp and we didn't have them in Texas. Patrick Swayze and Jennifer did not get along. Patick Swayze's character has no money. The waiters are from families with money, hence they can do what they please. Watermelons like that are all over the south, especially Texas. A lot of old comedians got their start at these resorts and a lot of them were Jewish because they wouldn't be accepted in other places. He wrote the song and this wasn't the 80s it was in 1963,

I realize you are not in the atmosphere to know. But it's not a summer camp, it's a country club. Rich people go there for vacations. The dancers are there to teach the children of the rich people who were invited. Baby's father is a rich doctor. Johnny Castle is the dance instructor that the rich guy that welcomes the doctor in the beginning pays to teach people to dance. If the two of you would ever like to go to a country club, look up who I am and get in touch. I might be able to get you two invitations to one in south Florida. My name is Derek Thomas Lirio.

The biggest fantasy in this movie, the father accepting the camp dance instructor. Never, and I mean never, trust a man that can dance. All men know this.

I would get annoyed as a kid that this was on TV, too. 😆 more so that I thought it looked incredibly boring. When I got older, I tried to watch it again, and it felt "like a year." 😆 🤣 Still was bored. I couldn't finish it, but I've seen some of the iconic scenes and felt that was good enough for me. One point I have is that there was lot's of 50s nostalgia in the 80s, and this movie felt like they updated the 50s for 80s audiences. Some of the messaging and all. Enjoyed the reaction Lovely Ladies. 😎👍.

You guys missed the plot or main storyline of this film. It was about the clash between the wealthy and lower income middle class. About how people use their money and connections to get they want and abuse others

Happy New Year. The parents were Jerry Orbach Broadway Star. and Kelley Bishop from the original cast of A Chorus Line. Jerry Orbach filmed Law and Order in my office and was a great guy. Jennifer Grey is the daughter of legend Joel Grey. Patrick Swayze had studied dance and was told to hold back on his expertise when he danced. Definitely an interesting cast.

what i dont undertand , is that how can you be so mature and cool for your age.......but you havnt seen these films??? Have you been living under a rock?? Did you have a chance to watch them when you were younger and bypassed it because you wanted to wait until you were older and had a youtube channel? it makes no sense. Whats wrong with younger people? Did you not get interested in what your parents liked? i cant unnderstand it. i was born in 79, and i was brought up listening to stuff that my parents did, and also the stuff i liked.. so ive got a vast knowledge of 60s and 70s music, however kids thesedays seem to have no clue about anything that happened before they were born!!!
