In case there's any confusion I've been coaching volleyball for over 18 years and I'm currently running a 6-2 with my 18's club team. The backrow setter plays normal defense and the back two plays normal. I actually just switched to a different 6-2 My setters go back row for the middles and I have 2 Outside hitters and 2 right side hitters. Gives us a ton of offensive options.

@Lolacat1000- You would stay in the back row. Your initial position at the time of service does not allow you to legally attack at the net, or block... So basically you are passing and defending and helping out on shanked balls that the setter is unable to get to... However you can hit a 10-ball if the setter does a set to the back row.. IF you jump to hit the ball, you must jump from behind the 10ft line(aka 3 meter line) if you are not used to doing this you may want to practice it before at

Nice demo, my advice. Change it to show backrow players starting at base(10ft line) on the serve rather than floating around about the 15ft line. Also illustrate that this is a 6-2 running a setter middle outside rotation. Nowadays any smart coach will run a setter outside middle rotation if they choose to run a 6-2.

Great video, thanks for posting it. I have two questions: 1) Does your team only receive serves with two players in the back-row or does someone from the front-row shift back to help? 2) When your team is defending from a spike, does your back row setter come back to position 1 and prepare for digging? So in your opinion, what's the most practical serve receive? When the setter is at 5. All the setter needs to do is to hide behind the player in zone 4, Front Right(FR) shift down to 1 to help receive, Back Right(BR) to zone 6, and Mid Back(MB) to zone 5, it's all about adjustments. But the "W" helps in terms of who's getting what, meaning if you're MB, then you get the short middles.

Is this differently played in recreational volleyball? 6 2 just playing the front right setter so you can keep 3 defensive players in back row.

i still dont rlly get it... im an outside hitter.... or left side i think when am i by the setter and when am i in the back row to start... and when im in the back row do i move up to hit or stay in the back row

This video is alright, but your formations are really impractical. "W" serve receive is the most impractical receive formation. Expecially when the setter is penetrating from 5. Also, when you play defence you play a position 6-up which is your setter. That is impractical because if the setter is taking tips then he/she can't set the second ball which forces your second setter at the net to set limiting you to two hitters. Other than that great vid!
