@@Jocelynvillegasmusic The rotation 1 at the end is incorrect, looks like the editor may have accidentally switched L/MH and OH. When I was looking at videos explaining rotations, I was looking for a good one to show my team I coach so they could watch it if they picked it up easier though watching a video (everyone learns differently) I didn’t use this one cause it had a mistake. When I was in middle school we ran a 6-2 rotation, but we never ran three passers. It was always 2 passers on serve receive and both setters on the court... literally 13yrs later am I finding out about all that you can with these rotations. I mean it worked (and we also only had six players on the team)

hello ! Thanks for your video ! two comments however : 1/ i don't know which rules you play, but international vb rules NEVER allowed the libero to serve afaik 2/ those international rules also allow one player (except libero) to only leave the field once per set and only enter it once as well, that's why after one full cycle of 6 positions you are stuck with S1 and OP1 on their starting positions for the rest of the set. i would use 6-2 formations only in the case where S1 and OP1 are both able to set from the back row AND attack when on the front row !
@pbmarty
@pbmarty Жыл бұрын
in addition, those rules also states that there should be a completed rally between two changes by the the libero. so the same libero cannot leave the field (to avoid coming to front row) AND at the same time re enter the field to replace the other MB in the back row ! the MB is forced to take the serve himself and stay in the back row until the rally is complete. and when it is, and if the point has been won, then the MB is forced to go on serving because the libero cannot serve, but before the second MB's serve the libero could opt to reenter in place of another back row player, but again i wouldn't do it, because the MB is certainly the best option for the libero and waiting the MB is finished with serving allows the libero to have some rest ...

This video is for high school level volleyball in the US. Our rules allow the libero to serve and change in the same rotation only in the event of them serving. As far as substitutions go, we are allowed up to 15 substitutions to use however we see fit. Thanks for the comment though!

@SDVolleyballVideos
@SDVolleyballVideos 2 ай бұрын
I'm not sure what you mean by "we just keep going", but as a libero, you are not allowed to rotate into a front row position. Are you officially a libero with a different colored jersey or are you just a defensive specialist that also plays in the front row when needed? If you are the libero, according to some rules, you are allowed to serve, but for only one player in rotation. Therefore, if you serve in rotation 3, you cannot serve in rotation 6 as well and vice versa. When that happens, you need to come out for that rotation until that player is done serving, and then at that point, you can replace that player on the court as normal.

Usually the coach will let you know whether or not they are running a 5-1 or 6-2 offense with their team. As a setter, it would be good if they knew both just in case the coach had to change it for any reason.

I have been playing recreational volleyball for decades and still don't understand the need for these rules. If the positions are ,as described, then every move becomes choreographed and predictable hence the element of surprise (attacks) are eliminated. It appears that majority of points are made only from strikes of sheer brute force/effort. In soccer the positions are set for 90m mins and nobody rotates so that attack moves aren't predicted. An even slow , innocuous move creates goals. Maybe I am missing something in these rules .
@ThatRandomKidOnTheStreet
@ThatRandomKidOnTheStreet 4 ай бұрын
Normally, your not sure where the hits are going to go, yes there is predictions but you can hit wherever. Like on the outside if they want they can hit but straight down or far to the back, even to the right or left but it’s just more disciplined. You never know who out of the hitters will be hitting until the set either (outside, middle, pike, or opposite) it isn’t fully shown in the video as this is just for rotation learning but when playing you have to be ready for anything. Hope this helped ❤

I would say that it depends on the age group, but generally speaking, I would say that most teams over the age of 15 generally would use some sort of rotation setup to help get the setter up to the setting position as quickly as possible while keeping everyone in their correct positions without an overlap. For example, watch this video at the 1 minute marker and you can see that they are in rotation 1 with the setter releasing from the backrow as soon as the ball is contacted by the server: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oqvdaa2DfKihrpI. It may be hard to see on television because generally speaking, the receiving team is off screen when the server is serving the ball, and all of the movement of the players happens so quickly that you might not notice that they are even switching.

Why is this lineup used? Why "hide" the setter and make them run to the front to set? Push that OH forward in the first rotation, and let the OP receive, and then the setter just steps forward to set, and the OH steps back to hit until the switch. There is NEVER a reason the setter should be running from the back to set the ball, they can be pushed up to the net for easier transition and positioning, and still maintain 3 passers and someone to cover the short serve.
@SDVolleyballVideos
@SDVolleyballVideos 2 жыл бұрын
Generally speaking, considering that the setter can see when the ball is being contacted, they can time it perfectly and they usually have plenty of time to get to the net and then play the ball. We use this form of setup to keep things consistent. By default, it is always the two outside hitters and the libero that are passing on Serve Receive. Yes, you can make adjustments if someone is having an off day or just need to mix things up to get a side out, but we generally pick our outside hitters as players who can attack the ball but also have good ball passing capabilities. That doesn't mean the opposite can't pass, it simply means that normally, the outside hitters are the better passers on the team, outside of the libero of course. I have definitely seen other teams use the rotation you are suggesting if they feel comfortable enough to have the opposite pass and there is nothing wrong with that, but most if not all of the rotations have a method of "hiding" the setter to ensure they don't have to pass the ball and can get into position to set as soon as possible.
@alexethier4038
@alexethier4038 2 жыл бұрын
@@SDVolleyballVideos I have no problem hiding the setter, the issue I have (as a setter) is hiding them so they have to run around to a position, when it is so much more simple to just take one step forward (or even not have to move). I've tried the way the video shows, and found that racing into position, and then a bad pass comes up, and I have to spend more time doubling-back or chasing that bad pass, than if I was already in position...and a bad pass happens, then I'm not having to change momentum, I just move towards that pass. I know the video shows a common way of lining up...I just believe it's not as practical as pushing the OH forward so the setter is already in position.
@SDVolleyballVideos
@SDVolleyballVideos 2 жыл бұрын
@@alexethier4038 I was a setter myself so I get it, but I generally didn't have too much of an issue with getting to the net before our passers were passing the ball. But, to each their own. If you feel like your method is better then by all means, utilize that with your own team. This is just a general guideline on a method of rotations.
