This may not be the best “how to” video I’ve ever seen but it doesn’t rise to need to be ridiculed. Dave is a very kind person who is very very good at suspension tuning for track bikes. He has helped me at the track numerous times and can literally transform the handling of your bike. Also Dave has been in the hospital battling sepsis so to see your mean girls treatment of him seems petty and unkind. That is in fact a license plate holder. People in the states put them as far out of site as possible for numerous reasons.

I don’t believe this is a “how to” video as such. BUT there are a lot of opinions given and techniques promoted that are utter nonsense and/or incorrect. Remember they consciously made an effort to record this and post on a video platform such as utube. Either with the intention of promoting their opinions, methods and beliefs or to simply get views and make money. If Dave is unwell then I wish him a speedy recovery. BUT if you put yourself in the public eye you cannot expect mercy from every critic and troll. How many utubers forget that?

@jozefrockatansky1588 Жыл бұрын
@@eddmelter1012 I remember seeing somebody else say something along the lines of how I'm going to try and explain my next point. I suck at wording things so hopefully this makes sense, but I think he enjoys the feeling that you get when you can do something somebody else can't, and if you make it sound really complex...it puts people off having a go themselves. So I guess in short, his fame of being a mechanic, is held up purely by the belief he is knowledgable, when all he's doing is masking simple jobs, with overly complex descriptions. I don't hate the guy, I just appreciate honesty...if I make a mistake, I own up to it and have a good laugh, but watching him try to loosen a bolt but end up tightening it, only to then try to cover up with some BS about how you always tighten first, then untighten to save face....yeah, makes me lean more towards the "makes it up" rather then articulation of words, who knows.

@@GordonGoblin-f3r Does a movie critic who for example may give a bad review to the latest movie blockbuster need to also star in his own movies to validate his criticism? Matt is an engineer. If you look through his published videos over the years and watch them. If you do that, and watch other engineering based content, you soon discover that Matt does know his subject. Yes I can see the irony of the unfinished projects and lack of “how to” content. But Matt is honest about this. If you challenge him in comments he will respond positive or negative. Not delete and pretend everything is awesome and perfect. Utubers in all subject matters need channels like Matts to call out the bullshit. Perhaps if this trend grows then people will think about the “content” they create and consider what “influence” they are providing before a video is published.

You aren't that bright, and deletion or cancellation are your only options!": Triggered are we? What in particular are you defending? Your own ego? Let's be honest, Dave do not much about wrenching, I have been in the industry half a life time, this dude do not know how to wrench, nor do he have the knowledge or routine/ expertise to do so, as we have seen. My thoughts on Dave: That is why I have been skeptical to how many actually do trust him with his suspension setup at tracks in the US, then again, his customers are just daily drivers renting a track as I have seen it. No professionals or guys who run in any competitions, right? I have been in the Enduro/ MX and a bit of RR hobby since i was 17, and nothing he does do really add up how to do things properly. The skeptical part is that he kind of do and say the right thing, but it do not mean it is done right. Or said/ explained correctly. This is how I see it. And Matt have proven that to me by dismantling his videos, and it will be more interesting when he get to the suspension part! @RichardVanags Жыл бұрын
Where do I start?? What can be said you didn't say?? OK... The dog bones.... They had bolt heads on them so put the god bone in the vise and use a fucking spanner on them and they will break quite easily. The castellated nut to set the swing arm doesn't need to be undone to remove the swing arm as you pointed out is there to centre the swing arm. The cush drive again is as you pointed out fine and its just rotation which he should have checked with the wheel in situ. The subframe surely had to have bolts in when they got it running as I saw him leaning on the tip as the tail unit and it didn't move in the first video. Removing the exhaust is always a good idea and it is easy enough to do too. Loads more space to work with and it just makes life easier. The rear shock could have been removed easily from the bottom once the linkage had been removed too. How do I know?? I built a GSXR600 project bike which is the exact same chassis and that bike was stripped and rebuilt several times, twice for photo shoots and stuff like the shock removed many times to run different springs, different shocks and change the shock length to alter the ride height blah blah blah... That bike is NO different to 99% of other bikes the same age and mileage when it comes to "corrosion" as it has been in Utah which is a dry heat and has possibly never seen temperatures below 20 degrees C where the owner lived. No real rain in summer as its part of the area which has been having a 20 year long drought. I would be happy to work on that bike. To be honest if it was mine, I would check free play in the wheel bearings, headstock (they can get abused from wheelies and hard landings), fresh fluids, tyres and sort out the brakes and then ride it on the road for a few days to see if anything else seems off like knocking in the forks under braking and get a feel for things that may need to be done. Then strip the body work for fresh paint, strip it down to clean it as much as I want and then do changes to the shock or forks based on how it feels while riding it.. A bad rear shock may not be obvious just with static load and will only show up when riding. Same with fork issues, riding will show them up much better. What he has done is a Dell video trying to make a simple refresh sound like its a massive job and over complicated it all as well as made non issues sound like expensive issues. Possibly because if he sees those issues on a customer bike he can justify charging more for it. (He must have been a plumber, plasterer or electrician in a previous life). The numberplate mount is fitted behind the wheel when you are some dumb American who wants to barely comply with any laws and is going to try to out run the cops.. I might go and look at some of his suspension set up videos and share the dumbest ones with you via messenger on farcebook Matt. Also if you want or have time, you are welcome to come have a day (usually a Thursday) riding on the little pit bikes on track and get to hone your riding before you get out to do a trackday on the track bike you are building. Usually Rich Cooper, Kyle Ryde and a few others come out too most weeks.

I'd love to see this guy try and remove something thatsactually stuck. The worrying thing is I've come across so many so called specialists in the automotive tuning industry that know absolutely nothing.

It's like academia they specialise so much they are clueless with the rest of it.

Yeah but what I was referring to was them flat out knowing nothing, and lying to people to extract cash. Salesmen setting themselves up as engineering gurus.

I haven't seen his maintenance videos until now. I'm definitely cringing. I only seen his track side suspension set up videos and they seemed OK. Now I question if he even knows what he is doing with suspension

You should see what he has to say about aligning the front axles on a race bike. He makes sh*t up. Ive met him plenty of times at the track and has a cult like following.

Why wouldn't he try a spanner on those bolts to see if they move? I'm sure they'd come free with foot power!

Can someone explain how the corrosion isnt an issue with the zinc bolts and whether any grease is needed on reinstall? Ta

My introduction to your channel was you ripping into Fillingham and I thought Hmm, bit harsh ya prick. My second pass at your channel was you ripping into TMF and his Billion pound RE custom and I found myself nodding along and smiling thinking, harsh but fair. My third watching was you dissecting TMF and his "mystery oil from his RE...hmm what could it be?" (I'd already seen his original video and thought - he can't be that fucking dim, can he? 🤣) - by then I was really enjoying your channel. Then I fell down the wormhole of the Del videos on his custom fever dream, turning a sexy Kwak into a metalic turd. These two Dave videos on the GSXR had me laughing and cringing. You know your stuff and entertain. Thank you.

Remember American number plates are Tiny and plenty of people mount them to be hard to see.
