What I have is a learning disability of some sort. Would a mental hospital such as Western Psychiatric be useful in helping me keep it documented? If anything I would feel that one of those doctors would be my best chance of proving it rather than going to some SSA hired doctor who might see me for a few minutes and tell the SSA he didn't see anything. The way I see it I have been in special classes mostly. They were all the way from K through 12. The ones that were special classes were mostly of 12 and a teacher aid along with the teacher who taught the things like math and reading and all those things. I know I should be seeing a doctor so that they don't try to send me to theirs. I am just afraid that then I might have to take pills that don't really do much and have side effects like nausea. Just one more question, if they do prescribe it and it causes unpleasant side effects like headaches, nausea or sleepiness must I continue to take it? I know if I ever was prescribed things that did that to me my sister would urge me not to take them. I would also like to point out that some things will never go away and many medicines just treat symptoms to make them less severe. Cold medicine is an excellent example, it will *NOT* cure the common cold but it may make it easier to live with it. Of course I try to avoid the drowsy stuff,

I had to leave the work force in 1994. I went before disability Judge won my case and then a few years later went back before Judge again favorable descion. I haven't gotten only two checks this year and missed out on stimulus checks. I am classed as SSDI getting off my husbands pay which is lower then it was .. The SSI tell me I will never get a pension or medicare . Their reason is not enough work credits. I have dominant hand thumb and all fingers amputated and no perephial vision. I'm legally blind as well, I have fibromyalgia and so many problems makes me dizzy.I'm so discouaged. I am going to be 67 this year.Oh I didn't have aputating when I seen the Judge

Just luck of the draw, I guess. As far as I know, you cannot request a specific doctor for you consultative examination. I get a lot of reports about cursory exams, if you feel you exam was inadequate, I suggest you contact the Social Security Administration and request another exam with a different doctor. I do have it on good authority some doctors do very brief exams, which, in my opinion, shortchange the patients. As far as signing papers for a lawyer, I'm not sure what you mean. I have never signed papers for a lawyer when doing a consultative examination. If your lawyer wants the written consultative exam report - and any competent lawyer would want it - you have to have your personal doctor request it from Social Security, and then give you a copy, which you can pass on to your lawyer. There is a report request form in the letter you get from Social Security telling you of the date and location of your consultative exam - it's the last page. Also, I cannot request specific patients. I can, and have requested specific patients not be sent back to me for a second exam, because they were disagreeable.
