Fun fact: Porky was never meant to be stuttering, the voice actor had this problem so recording sessions could be long because of how much he stuttered. If it stood with the character of Porky it's because it sounded well in his character.

To be honest. When I saw Toph at first I didn't even know she had vision problems. Her earth bending makes her completely in tune with her surroundings working as a form of artificial vision of sorts allowing her to sense things even though she can't see normally through her eyes. That and the fact that she's a capable fighter as well. I mean I guess the greyed out eyes implied something was wrong with her vision but I just glossed over it when I first saw the show. I guess though this is what makes Toph cool as a character. She may be blind but she doesn't let it weigh her down. She is in tune with the earth around her to the point where she doesn't even need help finding her way around. She's capable on her own and is a very strong fighter.
@project_letters

For Sheldon he wasn't originally supposed to be autistic and is just a smart man child (hence why he's antagonistic at the start) but he did end up being very much autistic. An example would be in young sheldon when missy (I think that's her name) can tell exactly what's happening in photos but sheldon can't. That definitely is an autistic trait. @project_letters
@project_letters Жыл бұрын
I wouldn't have thought of them when being asked to list disabilities but it is a disability. This is because it is the inability to make certain sound with your mouth. This can be due to many different reasons. People also descriminate against people with speech impediments Edit: they also get infantalised because of inability to make certain noises being related to children. I know someone with lambdacism and rhotacism who has gone through infantalisation and bullying over it Edit 2: also speech impediments can be the result/cause other disabilities. Untreated speech impediments can cause people to have struggle learning to read and write. People with dysarthria slur their speech due to brain damage whereas ankyloglossia and apraxia is a result of the brain not being able to move the toungue properly (varying in how extreme)

Like yeah if it's intentionally insensitive then it can be brought up but I don't think the creators were trying to depict ADHD that way. Heck the entire context of the clip is from an episode where cricket's family helps him to find a way to read that his ADHD can agree with, and helping him not get punished by the librarians just for doing stuff people with ADHD tend to do.

okay- since I'm autistic the fact that disabilities like autism, wheelchairs, prosthetics, etc are more prominent in media now than when I was younger makes me SO HAPPY. when I was a younger, I was basically taught that I wasn't normal, and that nobody with disabilities was normal, WHICH ISNT TRUE. She was bullied in her childhood for her voice + she has health problems + she was raised by strict parents (especially very nervous angry mother) in multiple children family, so it is very struggling for her. She even said me her voice condition will become worse in years. It's great to see that my friend isn't alone with her condition, even if it's fictional character.

I appriciate how speech impediments are used here. While each charcter was nice to see, I wish my disability was represented. I have what's known as vocal paralysis where I'm only speaking with one working vocal cord (due to a surgical accident). So my voice sounds sounds deep and raspy compared to the average lady. I think it would be cool to see a character like this having to face things such as let's say trying to speak in a loud environment or using alternative methods of expression (rather than just verbal communication) such as hobbies, way of dress, etc., or even goofy scenes of there being something like an occasional popscile/ ice cream stand when they need something to take care of thier voice and there's just this person sitting there waiting for business (bonus points if they throw in a cartooon-y light showing down on the stand and/ or an angel sound effect). Sorry if that came off as selfish since I'm aware there's more than likely others out there who have not so common disabilities out there too.

it sounds nice, you would just have to be really carefull cause... yeah i bet many people would interpret that character as being a trans women instead of a women who just happens to have a deep voice, but hopefully in the future, people can be accepting enough of trans people and also people like you that if a show who has a character like this and they clarify what kind of charater they are, people wont spark a huge controversy

@teyarust6727 Жыл бұрын
@@marmolejomartinezjoseemili9043 I agree with you, reguardless of folks's thoughts on the subject I don't want to be disrespectful to that community. I guess how you'd have to do it though would be to make sure you have a solid introduction explaining that right off the base. When I have to explain my story here's how it goes: "... and you're probably noticing my voice might sound a little 'off' to you. Little deeper and raspier than the average gal. Well, as a baby, while the doctor was trying to save my life at 2 months old, he accidently nicked my vocal cord causing me to sound like this. No need to feel sorry for me though; I've spoken like this ever since I could first speak." And obviously as the introduction goes on, people can like things that are both more girly or boyish things (ex. girls can read comic books, boys can go into stuff like ballet) but in subtle ways (not by saying this is a girl every 5 words or so lol) by showing things that are on the "traditionally" (yes, I understand times have changed now) girly side like seeing the character put on makeup, having the character buy things like nail polish or dresses, etc.

It sucks that it's only since 21st century that autism starts to be well recognized and discussed properly.

Now this is beatifull, As someone who has OCD, Anxiety, HDHD, and Autism, seeing my favorite characters have it makes be feel better about having it. Though, I kinda feel like some of these characters were not conformed of having it.

I never realized I was autistic for a while, but seeing that juilia character brought tears too my eyes. I also got super upset, whenever I heard sirens or a super loud car. I hated football games because everyone would scream and the music would be super loud. I don’t do it anymore but I didn’t realize that was an autistic trait until now

Don't forget about South Park: Timmy uses a wheelchair and can only say his own name and a couple of other words (although in one episode he clearly says "please help me") Jimmy has physical deformities and stutters Etc etc...
