Disabled Lovebird Benny ( agapornis ) recovers from " splayed legs "

Benjamin had to cope with the condition of splayed legs. His parents ignored him but with the help of his sibblings he managed to survive the first weeks. He was very small though compared to his brothers and sisters but it's getting better by the day and with the help of his foster parents. Benjamin has become a healthy, flying and lovely lovebird!

We had a baby chick with the same condition & we fixed her legs the same way. :) beautiful video. Almost cried so glad these people cared enough to help him when others wouldn't have. The brother's & sister's feeding him was very touching.

A beautiful video. :) I hae a diabled yellow budgie, Petal. My mum rescued her from a dodgy, horrible pet shop (Which, thankfully, was shut down by the RSPCA) - the animals weren't in very good shape, but Petal was in an especially bad way. Her foot was 'clubbed' and a wing was bent - they had been dmaged when she was a hatchling due to overcrowding in a tiny box with others :( My mum only went in there for fishfood. She heard the owner say something about "taking her [budgie] out back and ckzzzt [with twistin motion]" she she rushed over and said "I want that little bird!" And so we had another budgie to join our little blue 3 year-old Budgie George. We nursed her, encouraged her to fly aound and climb and play [as did George who loved her to bits] Unfortunaly George died of old age a few years ago, but Petal is still going strong. She's about 11 years old and has never let her 'disabilities' hold her back :D

My two lovebirds had splayed legs and they were treated the same way by vet. Their legs are not perfect like others but at least they are able to walk and land after a flight. I still have them with me. They are my love.

Reminds me of a little orange kitty that came into my life one day. She weighed 4 ounces, had an upper-respiratory infection, and was covered in fleas. With medical treatment and hand feeding, she lived a full and happy life and died last year at the age of 20.

I hatched a little quail who had both feet clubbed, luckily for her,and me, some TLC and a dense flooring in her incubator , she slowly uncurled her feet, one at a time over months. She is now running about like a normal quail and generously laying an egg or two a day. I call her Bumble after the way she used to 'bumble' around on her backside. She is just over one now and enjoying life. I have lovebirds as well and I hope your little one keeps improving x

it is touching but it is the natural way of things sad but true he was defective and so they chose to let him starve humans intervened and said he should live and altered him now he can grow to have more defective babies. I grew up on a farm and it was hard to let one of our animals go but sometimes we knew it was the best choice

and I am not saying that I would kill my child or that I wanted the bird to die you misunderstand me i said this is very touching. the parents of the bird stopped feeding him it was their decision not ours to change it. thankfully his brothers and sisters loved him enough to feed him even when the parents wouldn't. I am not heartless I am glad he is ok and that they were able to fix his legs i am just stating that sometimes you do have to let nature take its course. it is not our right to step in and decide what should or should not die.
