Thank you for watching! Have you solo traveled before? Are there any other disadvantages that you have found? If you're new to solo travel, are there any disadvantages to traveling alone that stop you from taking the leap? 💕

I took my first solo trip that was not business related in 2023. I had decided at the beginning of the year that I would put myself first for a change. I was very scared, but once I booked it and stuck to it, I had an amazing time. I was worn out from work, and needed. To do something to unwind. It was the best for me both physically and mentally. My parents have always told me “If it’s going to be, it’s up to me”. That has served me well both in my career and my personal life. I did not encounter any loneliness at all, and I was able to enjoy myself every day. My coworkers encouraged me to stand on my own, and I feel like I am better from the experience.

I love this!! Thank you for sharing! I'm so glad you had a great time and were able to relax, enjoy your trips, and the time you got to have with yourself. Such a wonderful experience. This is so encouraging for all of us! 💕

I travel solo regularly and for me the number one thing is decision fatigue. It can be rough but I combat that by having a loose outline for each day of my trip. I also have a list of things to do/ideas in case something doesn’t pan out. In terms of photos I find as a solo person I’m regularly asked to take peoples photo, I think I seem like a safe choice with salt sand pepper hair and a big ol’ camera in tow. That said it can often be a moment to connect and chat with people as well.

Oooohhh yes! That is such a good one. I also struggle with decision fatigue, especially when it's somewhere that has so many options. That's such a good idea to combat it. Have an outline, but allow yourself flexibility as you go. Aww, I'm sure you've taken so many great pictures for other people. Yes! That's so true. It's a great time to connect with people as well. Thank you so much for sharing! 💕

😂😂Aww, I love this! Welcome!! It’s so true! Nowadays, I encounter it less and less as solo travel is becoming more popular but I too have the same thoughts sometimes. But at least we aren’t at home missing out on all these amazing adventure just because we don’t want to go alone. 💕

Hi, I agree that solo travel requires a lot of responsibility. If you don’t take care of everything, there’s no one else around who has your back. I do have one tip that was awesome for the trips I took to China in 2007 (six weeks) and 2009 (four weeks). I originally wasn’t planning on traveling there, but was very interested in the Chinese culture and language. To learn Chinese, on a friend’s suggestion, I signed up at the local library to teach English as a second language to people from a China. I live near a university, so I had no shortage of students. Once I decided I would take a trip there alone (my wife wouldn’t go, and would probably have made the trip miserable if she did), many of my students (as well as work colleagues and my Tai Chi instructor) were excited for me and lived in various parts of China. So, while I was traveling, I got to meet their friends and families. Since the traditional Chinese dinners are shared among a group, ordering a lot of dishes, I got to enjoy this experience several times on my trips. I also was accompanied by their families as I toured Beijing and the Great Wall, as well as Shanghai and Kunming (in the southwestern province of Yunnan). I had a lot of wonderful experiences that I wouldn’t have had if I was a stranger in a strange land, so to speak). This tip isn’t for everyone, but I can attest that helping other people really does help yourself. I hope you enjoy your travels and appreciate your videos to help others learn how to successfully negotiate the solo travel experience.

Hi Scott! I love this!! Thank you so much for sharing this with us. You're so right! Helping other people really does help yourself. I couldn't have said it better myself. I love that you had these meaningful experiences with others on your travels and you will always remember it. And who knows, you may see some of those people again in the future. I don't think we're meant to live in a bubble, even if we are solo traveling and this comment is a good reminder of that. Thanks again for sharing! 💕

Love this video! Really important points and great solutions. That bathroom stall with luggage bit had me on the floor 😂, so true and so gross!

A "Hero" clip is great for putting on the bathroom door and holding a purse or backpack.

That’s such a good idea Sherry! I travel with a Hero clip now thanks to you lovely viewers and subscribers, I should try that. I actually keep getting ads for the bagnet and think I might cave and buy one to try it. 😂

Yes, the bathroom hassles are real... luggage always with you, not leaving stuff at your dining seat, I never order any "messy" food because I don't want to have to go wash my hands before I'm ready to leave. The single-supplementary charges for not having a "double-occupant" stings. Almost everything costs more because you aren't splitting any of the costs

Hi Amber! So sorry for my late response! All of this is so true! I'm much more "care-free" when traveling with friends of family because I know I can just run to the bathroom whenever in comparison to when I'm traveling alone. It can get annoying. 😂💕

Great video, thank you for this. I'm planning my first solo trip this year. My concerns are, my sense of direction isn't that good and sleeping alone in a hotel for the first time, scares me a bit. Any advice? Thank you.
@TheKrystee8 ай бұрын
There are a few safety tools for the hotel door. A doorstopper that alarms loudly if someone were to open the door and travel door locks! Look into some. My first time in a hotel room alone was INCREDIBLE! I’m an ambivert & need my space after a while!!

Yes! She's so right! I have a video for solo travel essentials! I love bringing those things on a solo trip to help me. Love bringing a doorstopper with me. A deadbolt is also good. They have some on Amazon for cheap. Also, depending on where you are going you could do a bus hop on/hop off tour or a simple tour on the first day to get a better sense of the city and sense of direction. I hope this helps! Safe travels! Keep us updated. 💕

“Your opinion of me is a reflection of you.” Those are words I live by. I couldn’t care less about what people think of me because people don’t pay my bills, you know? I just got back from a solo trip to New Orleans and let me tell you, if it’s not on your list, add it now. It’s THE perfect city for solo travellers, esp solo females of colour.
@KRodCollective9 ай бұрын
Yessssss!! I love that too! Thinking about statements like that have really helped me shed the opinion of others. Cause you’re so right, they aren’t paying my bills or contributing to my life. They are literal strangers. I’ve been wanting to visit New Orleans for aggggesss!! Every time I’ve had a chance to go, something comes up or I have another obligation. I’m glad you had a great time! Thanks for sharing! 💕

I have been living in France for five months and I have only done one out of town trip to Paris. This was with a tour group, which on one side made me feel secure as it was my first time in the city. But I hated doing activities in a group and I felt very constricted. I want to go again but perhaps as a solo trip. I've never solo traveled so I'm wondering if I'm in over my head.
@KRodCollective7 ай бұрын
Hi there!! I'm so sorry for the late reply! How are you doing in France?! A friend of mine recently moved there too. She is loving it! I totally understand where you're coming from. And the truth is, sometimes you won't know if it's for you until you try it. Maybe you could do a solo trip but add group elements like a tour within the trip but not the entire trip being organized by the tour...if that makes sense. Let me know if you end up doing one! Thanks for commenting! 💕
