Thing is we don’t actually know in the context of the show itself. However in the original Journey to the west. Wukong killed macaque cause macaque pretended to be Wukong & tried to kill Wukong’s fellow pilgrims. Also in the original story these two did not know each other personally before this.

As far as we know... Macaque and Wukong were friends, but had a MAJOR fallout (what happened is unknown) due to things happening such as Wukong constantly leaving and the Brotherhood. It's believed that Wukong killed Macaque, but there are theories that he didn't actually do that. Once Macaque came back, he instantly wanted revenge on Wukong though, buuuut they're getting back to being tolerable of one another and caring but not wanting to show that so... Yeah-
