In graphic design we see a trend towards anti-design, deliberate rule breaking. Even BMW are making uglier cars. Why? Because the familiar looses attention. To gain attention, we now need something that shocks. We no longer respond to beauty. The world has become saturated, too noisy, too fast, too full of images, 100's of images we scroll through everyday on small screens. We can read images quicker. Something that shocks us, something grotesque, gets more eye attention.

@@AC-id5ow very interesting! I hope, this goes for people too and will lead to a decline of beauty standarts (which drive people to grotesque behaviours)

I’ve observed this phenomenon within writing. The practice of calligraphy, be it Chinese, Japanese or other, slows down the hand and mind. It forces one to move the hand in such precise and delicate ways. Compare this ancient practice to our speech to text functions now in which were no longer even using our hands to write!
@oleg232000

@Yonatan Shaish Yes but texting is a boiled down version of ancient calligraphy wouldnt you say? A "grotesque" like version of written communication?
@oleg232000
@oleg232000 2 жыл бұрын
@Yonatan Shaish texting in of itself is not grotesque of course not. But in perspective to ancient calligraphy, it most certainly is. And if one has been exposed to this calligraphy, then using text will surely seem grotesque. And this example can be applied to many aspects of life, I am just sticking to calligraphy because the OP mentioned this.

Love the real, poetic observation about this. It's being marketed to us to be angry, upset & disconnect from our bodies and the present. Practicing my balance & new body movements and even though I recently rolled my ankle & my back & shoulder hurt (not sure why) I'm not letting it stop me from moving. More cautiously, but I feel movement it what I need even though it might seem counterintuitive

I am grateful that you decided to give some input and perspectives again, you truly changed my life back then in 2013|2014 with the squat and hanging challenge, it opened up many doors for me to pursue a better version of myself. Salute and much love to you Ido.

I think this is my favorite video of yours that I’ve seen, so many realizations…The disappearance of any aspect of ourselves feels to me like a sign of neglect, which in turn feels like a sign of avoidance. The “why” we are avoiding these movements/thoughts/emotions feels to be the way forward…

In the nature, the complexity creates delicates life. Where in the beginning only hard strongs plants can survive everything is more simple. After, when the environment is more complex ( meaning more conection between beings.) more delicates plants can survive. And those beings can survive because they are conected with more other beings and sistems than the first hard plants. So, we are losing conection with our natural environment, and we are trying to creat a new one. But the true is that we are complex delicate beings

Yeah I agree with this sentiment and have a theory as to where this comes from... We are maybe dissociating further and further from the present moment... And moving further and further into our fears... The present moment is a place of sensitivity.. Where you can feel smaller and more delicate experiences.... We withdraw in fear from our sensitivity... We numb ourselves...with. Distractions..pleasure seeking... Harden up... Scared stiff... Harden our armour in order to do battle with a world we no longer trust.. Chasing success and domination... We are traumatised and can't face our pain..so we run away from it.. Bottle it up... And so our movements and projects might seem gross because we're numb.. And full of pain.. This is all Buddhist teachings..

I've noticed that if I start to suffer, I always have the choice to remove myself from that situation, but more often than I think, i have the opportunity to renegotiate fine details and let my intelligence seek out a fair challenge in it. Sometimes I am too gung ho, sometimes I quit too easy, but fair challenge is all around me waiting to be noticed.

Most people will not be interested by these kind of task (balancing a stick) they will rather be on their phone. Some of them will try it (2 minutes as you said) and will give up as fast as they tried. Indeed the real benefits of anything can only be acquired if a task is approached with curiosity and playfulness while allowing yourself to fully dive into exploration. And only through time and repetition you can FEEL the object until it becomes an extension of your body with a deep connection like a musician who plays an instrument until he can feel it and only true craftsmanship will attain this level of connection with an “object”.

I think this is strongly correlated with being so much in our heads. We are in the environment of so much external stimulus for the rational parts of our brains that more and more of our energy is spent there. That means we devote proportionally less energy to our bodies. Its much easier to notice subtleties when our attention is in our bodies.

No, actually, on the contrary. As the time goes by I notice more and more delicate things, "desaturated" tender nuances of things and people. I have always been sensitive to it, but in my early life it overwhelmed me. As I get more grounded, so to speak, and grow, I tend to enjoy it more and more. I also think it is a matter of focus and capacity.

Its Funny Ido , everything I feel is a form of consciousness - only what were conscious of is what we know , When you say the delicate things have been lost , I guess that can be interpreted as the "simple" organic raw things in life. And you mentioned Gratitude, Gratitude is a 2 way street , you can't be grateful in life unless you are able to receive love and appreciation , Someone thankful for "you" . this does help , because if you lose the simple , delicate , yet precious awareness of life in general , were are in serious danger of losing ourselves , and that itself is like being dead. 🙏

Cultivate superawareness by being completely submerged in the everywhere always. Both in wake and in sleep. Encounter extreme psychological pain and break out from within and down from outside. The ego and the self will rekindle.like muscle does. This has to be psychological, not somatic. The delicate then emerges everywhere and is in the dirt of every day life. All pretensions have to go.

Ye tell me, "Life is hard to bear." But for what purpose should ye have your pride in the morning and your resignation in the evening? Life is hard to bear: but do not affect to be so delicate! We are all of us fine sumpter asses and assesses. What have we in common with the rose-bud, which trembleth because a drop of dew hath formed upon it? It is true we love life; not because we are wont to live, but because we are wont to love. There is always some madness in love. But there is always, also, some method in madness. And to me also, who appreciate life, the butterflies, and soap-bubbles, and whatever is like them amongst us, seem most to enjoy happiness. To see these light, foolish, pretty, lively little sprites flit about--that moveth Zarathustra to tears and songs. I should only believe in a God that would know how to dance. And when I saw my devil, I found him serious, thorough, profound, solemn: the spirit of gravity--through him all things fall. Not by wrath, but by laughter, do we kill. Come, let us kill the spirit of gravity! I learned to walk; now I let myself run. I learned to fly; now I need no pushing to to move from this spot. Now am I light, now I fly; now I see myself beneath myself. Now a God dances through me.--
