i completely agree about cherry scratch, honestly i like the sound of scratchy mx blacks they sound more chalky to me. chassis matters alot with cherry switches, in something like the ncr-80 and other “hollow” boards i think mx blacks really shine
@RLkeebs Жыл бұрын
Interesting, why do you think that is? Is it because it amplifies the sound of the switch more?
@naberal Жыл бұрын
Are these worth spring swapping like mx blacks, I would like to know before i desolder mine
@RLkeebs Жыл бұрын
To be honest, I don't have much experience with spring swapping, but I suppose the 2 main factors you should consider are whether the stock springs are too heavy for you, and if the spring ping (if any) bothers you so much that you think it's worth going through the effort of desoldering them

@@RLkeebs yep gazzew switches are fine but they're not really that unique anymore, it's just that a lot of people that has tried the gazzew switches aren't really trying other similar hyper tactiles. I agree with the fact that they're still reliable and good for today's standards.
@RLkeebs Жыл бұрын
@@MiggyBunny11 fair enough, I'd love to try some other hyper tactiles and see how they compare! I have some Holy Pandas from Drop but unfortunately they came with lube on the stem legs so the tactility is reduced :(

They also have a weird feel when they are pushed off center.
@RLkeebs Жыл бұрын
Hmmm yea it might be related to the less than ideal tolerances which you can see on the housings themselves
@philipp594 Жыл бұрын
@@RLkeebs Hmm I would disagree. The nylon bottom is so thin and stiff. It is a very high quality part. The scratch comes from the glas fiber reinforcement in the bottom housing. I think it's down to the geometry not the tolerances.
@burgosmatthew Жыл бұрын
My experience was that the stock spring was quite pingy without lube and that the housing had a lot of wobble due to fairly relaxed tolerances. It wasn't until I lubed, oiled, filmed that I got the most out of them. Eventually I ended up spring swapping because the spring was too heavy. As for sound, my Nixies have a sharper sound than my mx blacks and so they suit me for a more clacky build. Do I feel like they are worth the hype? Only if you are willing to put in the work to make them good. Stock, they are not good.

@RLkeebs Жыл бұрын
Oooo do you have a break in machine? Lmk how it goes haha, I'm curious as to how much smoother it'll feel
@involuntarysoul3867 Жыл бұрын
they are smoother because the mold is brand new, just like some batches of mx black are smoother when cherry retools their molding but we will never know when they do that, that's why they call the cherry RNG
@RLkeebs Жыл бұрын
Cherry RNG 😂 Makes sense though, would be interesting to see how the smoothness of the Nixies changes over different batches
@0Metatron Жыл бұрын
@@RLkeebs I can answer that I had two batches from two different vendors and the first batch were literally the scratchiest switch I’ve ever felt, like really bad!! And the second batch were literally half the level of scratch to the first. The second batch felt the same as when I’d put the first batch through 6 hours of break in

Hi everyone, I really appreciate you watching! I did an extended typing test of the Nixies with different keycaps, which you can find here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/p6W8n2iVqbuof7c Also, if you'd still like to pick these up, you can save 10% on them at KeebCats using code RLKEEBS at checkout, or using this link: collabs.shop/myviau You'll also get 10% off other in stock items!

tbh, the nixies was probably a poor decision from cherry since well, its pretty hard to compete with the mx black. Instead they should have hyped up the new ergo clear or maybe make a long pole version of mx black
@RLkeebs Жыл бұрын
Yea I don't see anyone talking about ergo clears, though I do have some issues with that switch as well. Would definitely loved to have seen a long pole mx black but it probably wasn't super feasible because they'll need new molds for the stems

I’ve had mixed results I got two different batches from two different vendors and the first batch were literally the scratchiest switches I’ve ever felt. Not just standard MX black scratch but double that. And the second batch were magnitudes smoother. So for me it is really batch specific. I am breaking them in anyway with a break in machine because I want that MX Black sound (with the slightly more full bodied sound from the milky top) but with a smoother feel I spring swap them for TX 65g long which also improves them no end because the new nixie springs are sooooo bad

People that spring swap Blacks are interesting. I don’t have some issue with it… but you’re swapping an already mid-weight spring to a lighter one, and you’re already using a linear, and you probably want to lube and have a “buttery smooth” switch It’s an interesting move to essentially be shooting for the feeling of typing on a cloud or the lightest of pillows or something
@RLkeebs Жыл бұрын
For sure, I suppose if you're already opening up all your switches you might as well go all the way. I have some TTC wild switches with a 45g activation and I think around 52g bottom out so it'll be interesting to experience the other end of the linear switch spectrum
@0Metatron Жыл бұрын
I don’t understand ppl who don’t spring swap and then complain about not liking the spring weight or ping of a given switch. It’s so cheap and easy to spring swap if you’re lubing them anyway then why wouldn’t you. I guess if you haven’t yet found your ideal spring weight then it’s understandable but if you have then there is no point in taking the spring into any buying consideration when choosing switches
