Honestly, people that are complaining forget were we come... Two years ago, this level of modeling (neural, profiling or circuit) was way above 1kUSD.. Now we have ToneX, Nano Cortex, NAM player, Kemper player and so many more... Then it is good to acknowledge that great tone has never been so easy and affordable to get. The rest is a question of personnal perferences/use case/budget. Great review as usual. Love to see a good product based on open source tech.

Put simply, an epoch is one training "run" for your neural-network / profile. The neural network you're training is fed a chunk of your input (DI signal) and tasked with producing the output that would sound like your amp. That produced output is compared to the chunk of the actual "wet" signal (amp, pedal etc) and the delta between the 2 is that "error-to-signal" ratio. It then tweaks its internal parameters (weights) and goes at it again. 1 epoch is comparing the entire input DI signal against the entire wet (reamped) signal.

I literally did a video a couple days ago on my channel doing this very thing in theory. I took multiple captures for instance a revival drive capture going into a capture of a clean Mesa amp on my QC and captured that with the Nano Cortex to get it down to one capture and it worked great. I’ve done more captures of overdrive pedals going into the Quad Cortex using an amp model and captured that as well and it’s great! The possibilities are really unlimited in terms of capturing signal chains including multiple pedals and / or amps. Great video as always Arnold 😉 Now GET IN DA CHOPPPAH!

Dude, no excuses are necessary. The Dime Head for the win. It''s already everything the Nano Cortex should have been!
@christopheranderson21582 ай бұрын
For people hung up on the lack of a drive block in the Nano, why wouldn’t you just do another capture of your amp WITH the drive pedal engaged and save THAT as another preset? It’s not like you can only save a single capture and you’re stuck with it. Think outside the box a bit, people………
@Herrierecordsinc2 ай бұрын
That is how I profile... Preamp + fx in front (boost, compressor, that kind of stuff) + eq after the preamp.
@TONEWARSgearshow2 ай бұрын
Yes, you can certainly do that. I'm going to do a test to see how good those types of captures are compared to a capture of a regular amp that is boosted by a capture of the same pedal.
@christopheranderson21582 ай бұрын
@@TONEWARSgearshow Cool!! I’d be interested to see how that works! I received my Nano yesterday so I could get into the capture game, but just couldn’t stomach the $1,800 for the Quad Cortex as it’s just more than I need. The Tonex was intriguing, but the horror stories regarding the capture process and app management kept me away. I have lots of cool vintage tube preamps I want to incorporate into a simple pedalboard and the Nano should do nicely……I hope. 🤞

The moment you add a boost in front of a high-gain amp, you'll find out that Neural Capture has a hard time accurately profiling that chain. Boost pedals add noise as well as harmonic content; the more of these you have, the harder it'll be for the profile to turn out right & given that you can't extend the Neural Capture training time, it'll be very hard to get a profile that replicates your setup to a satisfying degree of fidelity.

So here’s my opinion on it. Basically, I think they should have just put all of their plug-ins in this kind of pedal platform. To me There plug-ins sound the best even over their modeling on the quad cortex. If you had a unit with just their plug-ins and the ability to control all the effects of those plug-ins at your feet That would’ve been awesome. And most people don’t have 10 to 15 Amps to model but if you do, this is a great unit to have. And even though you have access to modeled amps from other users, I still think their plug-ins that they captured are the best sounds they have to offer! In my humble opinion a pedal unit of just the plug-ins is what I wish of they would have came out with! Who knows maybe in the future.
@TONEWARSgearshow2 ай бұрын
Thanks for commenting. I don't know if plugins would work in this because they would have too many effects for this unit to utilize. It only has so many effects slots. But like you said, maybe they can fix that in the future. I appreciate your input
@oldmetaldude34802 ай бұрын
@@TONEWARSgearshow yeah very true probably wouldn’t work in this unit, but even just having the amp plug-in itself with no effects would be killer. Especially the Gojira amp, the plug-in version of that sounds amazing. In my opinion. Love your channel man great content.

For the Nano to NOT have an FX loop is just the dumbest shit ever. On top of a few other things it doesn’t have, it’s basically a stupid $500 device. They’re expecting everyone who buys it would only use it to clone their own gear. DUMB move. In my opinion it’s almost useless for the vast majority of ppl. And it’s completely useless for a touring/gigging guitarist.
