As a Forest fan, the thing that irks me the most about MOTD is not the running order, couldn't care less where we are in that. it is the analysis of the games. This week was the first time I can remember where after we have got a good result, the focus was actually on us and what we did well, not what the opposition did badly. Perfect example of this was when we drew at home to Man City last season. We scored a goal by passing out from the goalkeeper, all 11 players touched the ball in the build up to the goal, probably one of the best team goals of the season. MOTD showed maybe the last 5/6 passes for the goal and the analysis of it was Bernardo Silva was playing left back and was out of position. If one of the top clubs scored that goal, they would analyse every pass, show the whole move and go on about how great it was. There seems to be different analysis depending on the badge on the shirt, that is what most people have an issue with!! Having said that, was great to see the praise this week for what we achieved, Nuno got it spot on tactically and we were good value for the win!!

This is what bothers me too, I'm not blaming editors or producers for it at all, I work in events and know full well the difficulty of arranging things in a rush and the stress. But I wish there was a little more footage shown and less shots of the pundits, they can talk more if they want but show the images of the passages of play more fully. I don't think there's anyone that doesn't want that. Having said that tho I've never worked in broadcast so can't tell them how to do their job. One thing that does my head in though, is the poor highlights package our club puts out on youtube. It's a joke compared to other clubs, so many good bits of play ignored and too many replays and slowmo shots repeating when you could include more of the move that led to a goal or a chance or a tackle, etc etc.
@rjw4762
@rjw4762 Ай бұрын
Your comment is spot on.....and I too well rememeber that the editing of our goal v Man City missed out the first 5-6 passes. As you say, if there had been an Award for TEAM goal of the season Forest would have won it last season ! MOTD does concentrate a bit too much on the possible excuses that the big clubs might have for losing - Liverpool had too many plalyers away on international duty ??? Well Forest had 13 players away and 2 haven't come back !!!

Not a Liverpool or Forset fan, however, i do agree with you that often the light that some piece of play or skill is seen is based on the team or the player. If the goal you are talking about had been scored by Arsenal or Man City, I think they would have waxed lyrical at lot more about it - but that the same on almost all football programs.

2:28 - Everyone's crossing looks poor against Arsenal. They only seem "poor" because they aren't connecting - that's not due to the quality of crossing, that's the defence making crosses ineffective. Spurs nearly scored from one of their crosses yesterday, that's more than most teams do. Saliba and Gabriel leave you very minimal space to cross into, this leads to a lot of misplaced passes as players are only able to aim into very specific areas...

A City fan from my school days, now 61, I think that in fairness, City will have to be deducted points at some part in this season if any of the charges against them are found to be true, and I'm sure that some of them are going to come out that way, so there could be as much as 30-40 point deduction. Relegating City to Div 2 or Div 1 or the Championship is just not an option, as it would then prevent a team already in those leagues from promotion or their day at Wembley, a massive points deduction would prevent City from winning the Prem League and then playing Champions League the following season, maybe even banning them from the FA Cup and Carabou Cup could also be an option. It's difficult because all of these charges are from years ago and not the fault of the current team, manager or the supporters, but there is going to have to be something massive thrown at the club for fairness in the game, obviously I don't want any of the above to happen, but I reckon there will be something huge coming our way. Saying all of that, In Pep We Trust and BMR.

Can either of them cross a ball? If so, put them on the right as an orthodox winger.Then I'd play Joelinton, Tonali, Bruno and Willock in midfield with Joelinton and Bruno sitting then go to a back 3 of Kelly, Schar and Trippier. People moaning about the running order, but the fact is it was a 1-0 game with not many good chances... it was a big win for Forest but it wasnt exactly a great game for the highlight reel.

What exactly should we praise Arteta for? The one trophy he won 4 years ago? Comin second? Never heard any praise for a manager that has not won anything in 3 years,

I'm surprised Gary said it wasn't a great game, maybe that's just a little bit of his Spurs allegiance showing through. I thought it was pretty much the perfect away performance from Arsenal when you factor in they had their starting midfield all missing and had 5 teenagers on the bench. They slowed the game down, quietened the crowd and looked to hit Spurs on the break. They had 3 big chances in the first half and limited Spurs to hopeful crosses pretty much the entire game. I thought that was a big result personally (as a neutral).

Did you watch the whole game or just the 2nd half because spurs were all over arsenal in 1st half and were just executing wrong in final 3rd😂
@TJW-YT
@TJW-YT Ай бұрын
@@SN-ig2ml I watched the whole game. In that first half Spurs had a lot of the ball but they still created less meaningful chances than Arsenal. Only that Solanke chance springs to mind as a genuinely "big chance" and that comes from an Arsenal mistake, not even something Spurs created themselves. Whereas I can think of 2 Havertz headers unmarked in the box, a chance for Martinelli in acres of space and a cut back to Timber that all were very dangerous in their own right. Spurs "dominating" teams in terms of possession is meaningless if they're not creating attacking chances of any quality. Twice the amount of possession Arsenal had to create 1 more shot on target across the whole 90? That's poor.

Jump to 43:00 for Alan’s obligatory big-ears joke aimed at Gary. Every episode, he makes the only joke he knows. Well, I say that but there’s also the, “who? Me? I never fucking swear!” line that he trots out most weeks, too. He’d already sworn in the first few minutes of this episode so we weren’t going to be treated to the hilarity of that one unfortunately. Never mind - there’s always Thursday’s Q&A episode for him to get it into this week. This podcast is one of the best football podcasts out there, and they get great guests. The Overlap Stick to Football is (imo) better but they seems to only get ex-United players in as guests (not always, but, like 80% of their guests are former United players and teammates of Gary Neville & Roy Keane). I’m a United fan but even I roll my eyes when I hear, “today we’re joined by Manchester United legend, and former teammate of myself and Roy, it’s xxxx xxxxxxx,” no matter who it is. Christ, The Rest is Football managed to get Eric Cantona before Neville & Keane did. Stuck to Football has the added bonuses of Ian Wright & Jill Scott, who are both absolute gifts to us all. Anyway, I digress: Alan Shearer is boring as fuck so they should get a new permanent member of the team, either as a replacement or (preferably) as a fourth member of the team. They should endeavour to be in the same studio for each episode. Difficult as this may be, it would take the show up notch not just having close-ups of everyone’s bonces!

I can't believe I've seen some criticism for Arsenal because they "parked the bus" remember when Arsenal used to get smashed by the big boys away from home because they'd just go for it? Soft underbelly, no backbone all that crap, now they play as a unit, solid, work for each other & it gets criticised 😂 people acting as if Arsenal dont play some of the best football in the league but in big away games Arteta sets his team out to get the win, doesnt have to be pretty, but its effective!
