The outside proportions are identical, but the shell underneath is redesigned - they tell you that. To redesign and build a low volume car is a huge cost. But they will be lighter, stronger, no inherent rust traps, designed to be dipped and treated and definitely not using magnum panels. It's a new car that looks like the old car.

The original Mk1 escorts were cheap everyday vehicles, they were everywhere, so ubiquitous, same as many other Fords. What made them popular for younger men on a tight budget was that the Escort could be modified and race tuned in your garden for pennies, all you needed was either a mate with “the knowledge of Fords” or a couple of books by people that worked for AVO Ford. I had a 1.1 litre ‘L’ model, with rectangular headlamps, the car very slowly morphed into a 1760cc engine, with twin 40 noisy Webers, open bore 3” exhaust (wasn’t great) uprated suspension with a mixture Capri parts. The first upgrade was a 1300cc engine from a crashed purple 1300E, then quarter bumpers from the escort vans, another engine was put together in the garden shed, a Cortina 1600gt engine with a Corsair bell housing and gearbox mix, I had to use the 1.1 sump, with the side of the sump beaten out to accommodate crank throw. When I fitted the engine and box, on start up the engine smoked like chimney 😤 so eventually, out it came and was rebored for power max pistons, plus new crank shell bearings, then came the webers, I remember messing around for weeks with a mate trying to get the jetting right, they were on and off like a hookers bra. Wheels changed often too, from the standard 12”, through banded, white Wellers with a fancy blue and red pinstripe, to Wolfrace Slots. The body and paint changed too, I was in the trade as a spray painter, rusted panels were changed, as were two doors, it went from white, to Sapphire blue, to Hawaiian Blue. The I sold it to get married…😳🙄🙄🙄

@marcushayesfordАй бұрын
@rsjamie9423 Thanks Jaime! 👍 I personally don’t begrudge people that have a lot of money. It’s not their fault I’m not rich. But all things considered I don’t think a rich actual classic Ford enthusiast would choose one of these new Mk1s over other expensive options for investment in the Ford world. And for anyone that is rich that happens to want a brand new but proper feeling Escort, they could buy 2 top spec Millington powered MST cars instead!!! . . . . I totally understand that Boreham Motorworks HAD to make these stand out from the rest, and with the trick rear suspension setup, modern interior, awesome engines etc they are a step up from the old skool Escorts. And they do fulfill the aim of being a DESCENDANT of the Mk1 rather than a modified copy, BUT for £300K you could have a ridiculously modified, bespoke build by RetroPower (which would be 1 of 1, rather than 1 /50) . . . . My main issue with the situation though, is the fact they didn’t even bother building a prototype to show us. They hyped up the release date to just show us CJI!! They could have thrown together a prototype using the shells that are already available even! This would have still been a bit of a cheat (if they are actually planning to make their own shells for the production run) but still better than what we actually got. . . . Are you still hoping to buy one??? 🤔

I get the whole disappointment thing, especially from original owners. That said, this is a bespoke, limited edition, hand made, brand new car, made to order in ridiculously low numbers, and it will be built with all modern safety crumple zones, and to modern legal standards. It's obviously not going to be just a new production of a 1960's design. Yes it's expensive, but the development costs are going to be unreal, and they can't just make them for a loss, it has to be a profitable business. I'd never be able to afford one, but I'm not their target market. The buyers of these will be multi millionaires, and £300k is a drop in the ocean. I'm just glad to see somebody has built such a wonderful thing in this day & age.
@stuartd9741Ай бұрын
Agree, except the 300k tag just wipes out a whole market of potential buyers.. A production model ~ 30/40k of maybe 5000 units would offset some of the costs, and make it a profitable exercise.. .. 300k you could buy a original mk1 mk2 escorts and still have enough money to buy a garage to put them in

Can't Deny it's going to be a Good looking car, inside and out. The Difference with MST will Probably be a Carbon Fibre Body rather than Steel and the Interior. It's something similar to what Retropower are doing with their cars. 300k is a lot of Money but i expect it's the extra cost of Carbon Fibre and man hours to build it. Another Car i can't but but can admire 😢

Not keen on the stripes, the lights are the wrong shapes otherwise would be good, expect both as BDG being a Ford licensed product....i also never really liked the bubble arches, the rears are too fat and don't flow with the body shape as well as the fronts, the wheels are good but I don't like that new Ford wheel ledge shape they put in, can't stand the new Ford wheels, the interior is great, can't really fault it, although I would arrange the clocks a bit different, the seats are really smart but I'm not sure they suit the non altered altered exterior design as they could of .....

The more I think about it, the more I think that both engines are BDGs too mate. 👍 . . . . . I dont understand why they havn't told us what the engines are?? 🤔
