The R 107 from 1986 on had ABS. So front suspension parts should be a straight bolt in with ABS sensors, at the rear these only had one sensor in the diff, so there you would have to make up something yourself. The 1986 on also had bigger front brakes. I of course can't tell you if the sensors from an 86 on would work with the modern ABS system or if the new sensors would fit in the old mounting holes.

@williamscott68473 жыл бұрын
Would be interesting to see the welding on other models from a similar period and a later year. Could be a very early w204 chassis or just a bad day in the factory! I know the finish under the dash on my w211 was quite a bit better but that was a 2004 car. Just wait till you see behind the dash on a BMW e9x series car, it’s all just mild steel. Mostly coated with surface rust and almost looks like it’s just tack welded together 😔
@rickhartog32943 жыл бұрын
The R107 did came from the factory withe ABS. But it was a option for it. And you beter chance the rear suspension for the ALU type much better. And look at the front suspension because it will crack at the welds. Google it and you will see👍🏻

It seems like it's more work pulling the engine and transmission separately, you have a lift, just drop the whole powertrain from the bottom, cradle and all.
@stevetech75033 жыл бұрын
I think your question is redundant being that: 1. He had a lift right next to alignment machine that currently is holding up SL, 2. He explained exactly that this would be easier on other lift but it is being occupied by SL. Just an observation but you may want to watch entire video next time and it may answer any additional questions you may have.

Half measures patching the w107. Should be a full bare shell blast and restore job. This car will not be worth the labour invested because it is no longer an original SL, it won't handle the power of the M156 due to its older suspension design. You are not seriously considering mating that engine to the crappy rear suspension of the old SL380, are you? Swing arm rears are dangerous when cornering fast and Mercedes Benz learned that lesson the hard way and never used them on track again after a most unfortunate accident when their 300SL flew right into the spectators a long time ago. Finding a way to transplant a whole rear 21st century multiple link subframe to the old SL is definitely going to make it driveable anywhere, and not just on drag strips. Otherwise, a great job!
