I decided it was time to take the 92 Kenmore out and clean it up.
Part One shows disassembling the machine and flushing out the hoses to the pump (I forgot to show rinsing the pump itself) as well as put a new neutral drain kit, but this go around, I made a mistake while doing that, which wasn't realized until later after putting the machine back into normal service. Upon replacing all the neutral parts, I erroneously left out replacing the spin gear which I initially thought would work fine with the new parts. Turns out it made the machine slip into spin much worse than before.
Parts overtime tend to change in spec, so you never want to mix old with new in this case. There will be a follow up video having replaced the assembly correctly and with a new kit entirely. This video however will show as a lesson and reminder of why it's important to NOT cut corners, or you'll learn the hard way just like me.
These videos I just sort of left the camera rolling so there'd be less back and forth of stopping and starting the camera. Lots of cutting through the video though to eliminate the lesser important parts of the video for time reasons as well as background music reasons. I also didn't have the parts for my tripod at the time to be able to use it, and the battery for my camera needed to be plugged in at the time, so this series I was limited on how many camera angles I could get. This was one of those series where I feel it would have helped to have someone else film while I did all this.
Shoutout to jaykay18 for telling me the way to remove a stuck/rusty basket from the center post!

Good to see you posting again. Just got a hold of a Whirlpool DD about a month ago and it needs a GOOD cleaning on the outer tub. It sounds like it runs fine but will investigate further.Never tore down a direct drive before (not very mechanically inclined but am willing to try) but I have a buddy who is going to help me. Thanks for these videos . They are a great help. From what I looked up it is a 1997 model.

Thanks man. Been a tough going for me as far as posting for the last couple years. I wish you well on your ventures with your direct drive! It'll be easy enough once you get into it, provided nothing out of the ordinary comes up.

It's uh, it's been a minute. Man, once again, they say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Right down to the editing style! Amazing, it's like watching me! If I recall, a new gear is included with the kit. The old one can be saved as a souvenir (after a soak in LA's Totally Awesome or Super Clean), but I wouldn't reuse it if it came with a new part. Learning the hard way is a great, yet horrible way to learn. You will never make that mistake again, that's for absolute certain. This can be applied the very same way to engines, the old 2000 Camry (that is no longer with us) had it's timing belt replaced several times, and each time it made no sense NOT TO replace the oil pump and water pump, as well as idler pulleys. Learned the hard way on that one as well, 30,000 miles after replacing the timing belt, the water pump (driven off the timing belt) seized up. That threw the timing belt and the car was disabled. Fortunately, it's a non-interference engine so no damage was done, except to pride. The car had to be towed and went to a shop and they replaced all the parts inside. Being that GETTING TO the parts you need to replace is basically the biggest hurdle here, that's why it's important to replace ALL the parts inside. You don't want to have to do the job again soon. Live and learn, learn you did. The next time (if there is one) you do this job, and make a video, you'll be able to say "Make absolute certain you replace this gear as well, because if you don't, it will still slip into spin and you're going to have to do the job all over again. _Ask me how I know."_

....I feel I should be going, yeah. Har har! As much as I like to flatter, it is always good to retain my own style, of course. That being said, you bet. New gear is indeed included. That'll be replaced along with everything else for the sake of it. All that trouble is just how you learn never to do it again. Part of life, if you're like me--not super careful. There's a great example of that which happened to me a couple of weeks ago and I'm STILL paying for it (for another time.) And I will definitely say that in the corrective video!

The spin gear is a very important component of the neutral drain function. If the button on the bottom of the gear is worn out or the latch is unable to grab the spin gear cam, the machine will slip into spin. While I cannot confirm this for fact, I tend to think most failures with the neutral drain mechanism stem from the spin gear or the oil having thickened from age. As for the two different plates, they are designed for the different pawl studs. The newer transmissions have a thicker/larger pawl stud which uses the newer plate with the two holes. Those extra holes are merely identifiers to tell the two plates apart.

As I have learned, yes it is indeed a crucial part of the mechanism. That will all be replaced in a follow-up correctional video.

Welcome back from the dead ;) Dead channels that is. Where have you been? I'm assuming this is an older video since you are talking about it being summer in the beginning and it's definitely not summer yet.

Thanks. Been a while indeed. Won't go into details here on why I've been publicly absent, but I figured no point at keeping that up at this juncture. As is stated in the description, this was back in July of last year. I plan on releasing the following parts for this series over the course of the next month or so, and then a following set of video series after that on other machines.
