Noo you cannot spray a car seat with a hose or get the straps fully saturated with water! Please don't do it. It ruins your car seat. The manufacturer wpuld tell you that it's ruin! It should have cleaning instructions in the manual to follow! Your car seats are no longer safe now. :(
@MaiZimmy3 жыл бұрын
Why would they not be safe from water and fully drying out?
@bonniewilson85093 жыл бұрын
@@MaiZimmy There is a few reasons why. The straps are specifically not supposed to be saturated because it ruins the integrity of the fibers and elastic that is woven into the strap. The pressure of the hose is also not good for the seat as it could rattle inside components. If the seat doesn't dry fully material areas could mold and metal ares up inside the seat could rust. The fabric is usually ok to wash on a low or handwhas cycle but not to be blasted with a strong force. Most car seats have fire resistant material and that can be damaged if not cared for properly. The manuals will tell you how to clean them. I dont think a strong hose spray is approved by any. Im sorry to be negative but you putting this out there could risk the safety of many kids because alot of people aren't educated on the safety issues of this.
@bonniewilson85093 жыл бұрын
I checked your manual. It says right on page 91 in bold letters not to submerge the straps. Ie saturate them with water. Page 92 " Do not immerse the harness straps. Doing so weakens the straps".
@MaiZimmy3 жыл бұрын
Totally get your concern. I’m pinning your comment so people can review, read their car seat manuals, learn the concerns, then decide for themselves. I read through my car seat manual and I am not concerned with how I washed my specific car seat. It said I could wash the outside cover in a washing machine. It didn’t state anything against spraying the plastic seat down (and technically I didn’t use a power washer, but it didn’t say anything about that either) I didn’t submerge the straps under water, put them in the washing machine nor did I use harsh chemicals. It doesn’t want people to take the straps off, put it in a washing machine and have detergent on it cause that potentially affects the strap fibers. But getting water on the straps and letting it fully air dry doesn’t seem to be a concern. It notes that if the straps look at all frayed to contact Graco, but my straps don’t look frayed in the least. They look brand new. (Also notice I didn’t specifically aim to spray or scrub the straps. They got wet in certain parts, the same way they would get wet if my kids spilled water on themselves 😊)

@@MaiZimmy I totally get ur explanation... kids spill daily in and around the straps n seat.. and if they are that fragile they aren’t suitable as protectants for kids anyway!!!

It is not safe to use seat protectors unless they are not allowed from the company you could always call graco and see if they allow any specific ones
@MaiZimmy3 жыл бұрын
Yea, I had a seat protector once and I totally get why it was not considered safe. It seemed too easy for the car seat to move cause it was slippery 😬 hence why we don’t use them. But I ordered new seat covers last week that have a grippy bottom. And the car seat it SOLID. I actually think it’s more firmly in place than when we didn’t have one!! 🙌🏻

Just bought our eldest a new car seat since we had baby #3 so his seat isn’t too bad. But my daughter’s seat... 🤦♀️🤢
@bethanyb17603 жыл бұрын
The instruction manual that came with the car seats will tell you the recommended cleaning method! I know some say to spot clean the straps because getting them soaking wet may interfere with the integrity of the straps. I remember wiping them, and then getting a screwdriver out to get all that nasty out of the car seat. Why do they design seats like that?! They know stuff will get in them!

Hey mama! No hate at all but it's not safe to spray down your car seats, it can wear down the fibers of the straps and make them unsafe. Damp towel only on the straps and no soap, for the shell you can use a damp cloth and a mild soap. Good luck and good job with the transformation it looks great 💙

Make sure to read your car seat manual because for the vast majority of carseats it is not safe to use seat protectors with. Like she said in the video her kids safety is more important than your car seat leather!
@bonniewilson85093 жыл бұрын
That is not safe or allowed by most car seat manufacturers!

Yes. Yes you can put a protective mat down spending on model. And if you can’t get your call seat tightened enough so that it won’t slide on a mat then even without a mat it’s not tight enough. csftl.org/seat-protectors-at-a-glance/

I looked up that I can use Lusso seat protectors with my graco seats and got them 😁😁 I honestly think it’s actually gonna be safer for my kids. It has a sticky bottom that makes my car seat FIRMLy in place. Even more firm than when it was on the slick leather.
@crazycroney3 жыл бұрын
@@MaiZimmy yes our children’s safety is paramount first and foremost. However at 50k vehicle is a very large investment that depreciates. And thankfully the majors brands don’t have a problem with them. Also if you can’t get them tight enough, go to any fire station and they will install them correctly for you. I had a car that it was almost impossible to get those suckers tightened down.
