Even severely damaged that old briggs still manages to do some work. Very impressive. When you did that compression test I never imagined that engine would be so badly damaged. 92 psi is pretty good for one of those engines.
@VikingDudee
@VikingDudee Жыл бұрын
Man thats why I like briggs, you can beat the snot out of them and have like no compression and somehow they will still fire up, I had a old 6 horse push mower where the rings were gone, it smoked the entire time it was running and it felt really easy to pull the string like no compression, I dumped rear end fluid in it as I had no oil on hand, I used that thing for 2 years before I just gave it away to someone who needed a mower.

Oh, wow, I haven't seen one of those mowers in decades. My dad had one in the mid 80's (in the US, btw, don't know what it was called over here). After moving to where we live now in the late 80's he hit something and stalled it, never ran since. Me, being a senior in highschool in '99, decided to take the engine off and into my small engines class. When I pulled the flywheel off, I discovered it was just a sheered flywheel key that kept it from running. Dad never checked it. I still had to tear it all down for the class and my teacher asked if it was a new engine because the piston was so clean that he didn't think it was as old as I told him. I still have the shop manual for the engine around somewhere even though I no longer have the motor or the mower.

This has been fantastic to view dude. An hour+ showcasing your skills, knowledge, and that dogged perseverance to get it to run 😁. Not to mention the pleasing timbre of your dulcet tones 😉. I've watched this with the same kinda levels of anticipation and expectation of any big budget movie. Honest. Favourite bit was waiting for the exhaust smoke to clear to see if it was actually cutting while you drove around 😁. Thanks for this my man. Muchly appreciated and enjoyed 🙏. 😎

I had a similar briggs nd Stratton engine that locked up due to running out of oil and it was the crankshaft seizing to the sump. That's amazing, it reminds me of my 70s Stiga, looks similar. Mine was an 8hp but now has the 12hp fitted along with a twin blade deck that I recently converted to be more mulcher. I was looking for another out front Husqy, but this Stiga is just so plucky and fun. The engines so big it acts like a penny racer ( maybe before your time) ? Great work getting it to run, good bones to work with.

had the same mower, turned it into a free go cart, took the engine off, used a side shaft motor direct drive with cintrifuge clutch, then direct chain drive to rear sprocket, had to cut a slot for chain to go through , reached a speed of 40km/h wide open, great for going up and down hills, used it in winter to pull my 2 stroke snowblower and gas on a mini 6 foot long x 4 foot wide trailer around town to do side walks and driveways

I used to have a Ford RMT 51 that looked just like this monster some 40 years ago here in the States. You can see some pictures around the net of the bigger brother Ford RMT 66 which had a slightly larger deck and fenders. This one looks the same as my old Ford RMT 51 except the color. I remember sticking a new B&S 8HP IC series engine on mine as the old 5HP was too far gone and I used it for years to mow lawns with in my youth. Of course without the special deeply grooved drive belt, the thing would pop wheelies all day long dumping the clutch in third gear. LOL

Dang. One doesn't usually see a carburetor in better shape than the engine itself! The history of that engine must be fascinating... whoever worked on that must have been an interesting person, since they understood the engine enough to take it apart and put it together, but didn't know enough to keep it from tearing itself apart... I would have at least tried to hone the cylinder to get some of those grooves out. Yeah, it would have widen the gaps on the rings, but the grooves are where the oil burning is really coming from, IMHO. Too bad you don't have a lathe (or the time perhaps?) to fix that main bearing. Really though, all the things put together make it not worth it. I bet the exhaust seat loosening was the first issue, then just metal shavings making a mess of everything else after... Nice work getting it running though!
