30 years old. He was so young looking back then. I love Mike Holmes and loved his show. He's the contractor I want on my house. Too bad he's based in Canada.

Hello, I have no idea if you'll get this comment, but I'm going to try. First off, I am amazed at the craftsmanship and the dedication. I am or was a Outdoor designer and Deck/Patio builder for 26 years. I have seen it all and fixed many problems caused by non professionals. I like the fact that you stress hiring the right people for the jobs that are needed; Electrician, Plumber, Stucco etc.. It pains me to see Homeowners having to pay twice for something that should have been done right the first time around. Thank you for creating this content in the manner that helps clients understand what is needed. Build on !!! JD Roberts GC.

I love seeing the older stuff where he is on site working, before he turned the site all the time over to Damon. Ya I get it, lots of demand for the crews so I do understand sometimes having helpers run the site. But the first season Mike was on the job all the time and I enjoy seeing that the most.

I've been in the trades for about 50yrs and can count on one hand how many times I was asked for a reference. Fortunately I care about my work and it was never an issue but I do tell my customers to check me out and not just trust that everything will be ok.

My dad had a trailer that we built a wooden storage structure… we built a wedge into the front of it for aerodynamic reasons… when we stopped using it, it was because the trailer itself fell apart, the storage space we built was completely fine. (Axle broke near the wheel after about 8 years)

I built a balcony deck like this on my first house. I didn’t know what I was doing, and the internet wasn’t really a thing (yeah, I’m that old). I asked. Merchants, tradies, read manufacturers’ instructions. Approaching 30 years later, it’s still in one piece. Because the advice was consistent and wise: get the water away, use flashing and caulking, isolate timber from pooled water and damp non-circulating air.

I thought they were going to make some fixes to the dining room, but they only worked on the deck and exterior, which looks improved, except for the wicker fencing.

today or in many states they do not do vapor barriers under floors directly to the subfloor, I have taken out many floors that have rotted away from water being trapped under the subfloor it's interesting how things have changed to go back to old school to allow homes to breath.

I got introduced to Mike Holmes with Holmes Inspection so it's kind of weird seeing where it all started. Such a small scale project compared to, say, having to gut an entire brick house because someone cut out supporting walls.

One day content creators like you will not inject music into your videos. I so look forward to that day. I couldn't finish watching it as the music in the background was doing my head in.

You have to remember this was not created for KZbin. These were originally filmed for television. I saw them on DIY Network, which became HGTV, which became Magnolia Network.

Here in the USA if you have a problem with anyone, no matter what their trade the BBB, Better Business Bureau and the AG, Attorney General Office, can be notified of the problems/concerns bad contracting caused. It is filed and recorded so future owners can find out about contractors and repair persons. Even to find out if they're legally licensed. Especially home inspectors! Owners, always take marbles in your pocket as you can roll them to find out level on any surface. NEW OR USED HOMES. DO DILLAGENCE!!!

So no one stayed home to supervise / make sure they were doing what needed to be done. If work was done wrong, it was because I was at work. Being there allows you to correct things immediately and ask questions if something doesn't look right. Holmes does excellent work.
@visionsofparadise578

This is unreasonable to expect home owners to babysit the contractor. The contractor needs exact specifications before starting work, and they are responsible for the final product. If they have a question, they need to stop work and ask, not just do whatever they want because no one is there to wipe their butts. Also keep in mind that most homeowners are completely ignorant of construction.

I'm surprised that Mike Holmes didn't exp. For the inside walls to make insurer. Destruction was done right, or they showed some problems with them. The morning in the cabinets, and um, he never dressed that part in this episode of the not perfect made kitchen, which is all that he didn't go into and fix. Show my little mistakes inside.

For being "HD 1080p" Sure looks 360p and Maybe even 480p to me.. $40,000 for a Fucking Addition???? $40,000.... Fucking Hell! You can build a Whole Nice Two/Three Bedroom House for that..... In Most Areas....

Not sure what world you are living in, but $40K would be a low bid for this kind of work. A house on my street had just the siding torn off and stucko put up (I personally HATE stucko), and it cost them about $50k for a 1200sf one story ranch house. Things change and everything is more expensive.
