I just attempted my first glue bed dye. I followed as best I could with your process. In the video, your colors are so vivid, and solid. Very opaque and you can clearly see each color. I mixed my pro chem with 100% acetone. My results are frustratingly different. I could barely see the colors in the glue bed, almost like I mixed them thin. So I mixed quite a bit more in each of the tiny jars, I let them settle for about 2 minutes, and when I could see that the excess dye was settling to the bottom, I went back to applying it to the bed, but it seemed like no matter how much I added, I never even got close to the clarity that you have here. It was hard to even try to then blend it in the bed, and push it around, because the colors could not be seen as easily as yours are. I'm positive I've got plenty of pro chem in the tiny jars, I'm positive I am using the correct acetone, and glue... about the only thing I can think of that's different is you're using a white container for your bed, mine is clear. I picked mine up because it was literally 5$ at hobby lobby, and it's a 1" deep tray on it's own lazy suzan. Comes in pretty handy for spinning the angles so I can see the bed from another angle. I laid a white disc in it about a half hour ago, so I'll report back tomorrow night. I hope it turns out halfway decent, but I'm not expecting perfection. It's my first time. I just wish I could see my colors as vividly as we see them in your video. Thank you.

@nowskidyes27403 жыл бұрын
Totally. You would wanna hot dip that bad boy for the best results. Stamps are not normally effected by dye, so you won’t need to cover up the stamp. This is what I’ve read. Warm up some dye and water in a pan and warm it up to roughly 180-190 degrees. Then float the disc in that for 5-10 minutes or until you are happy with the results.

@@BoomchuckGolf yeah. That’s gonna happen. I find certain colors really like to spread out too. Take your time dropping them because they will shrink up as the acetone evaporates. I only drop one or two drops at a time in one spot too. Colors the I know spread out wide (yellow) I’ll drop last knowing it’s gonna spread and push. Then I’ll also go heavy on the other colors that don’t spread to help cushion it.

Discraft Z plastic is quite dyeable, but grey discs tend to mute/darken the colors you use. Also, I dont remember which ones, but dyers use very specific clear glues as some of them sink the dye, ruining the process. Otherwise, its a fun activity.

what kind of dyes do you use and watch ratios? I have prochem and acetone and can't find a source for proper ratios
@nowskidyes27403 жыл бұрын
I use prochem dyes and idye as well. I use roughly 1 tablespoon dye to 4 ounces acetone. I error on the side of too much acetone, and I often refill the acetone a few times before adding more dye to my solution. I do not think the ratios matter all that much because only so much dye can become suspended into the acetone. Just always let the mixture settle before using it, you do not want to draw up chunks of dye for the glue bed.

Hi the is the stuff you put on the glue bed worm dip? Also how do you get it to make the smaller droplets? Mine are so big.
@nowskidyes27404 жыл бұрын
Nope this is all prochem or idye with acetone. Lighter colors tend to spread more for me, especially if I use worm dip. As the dye sits on the glue, the acetone will evaporate and the dots tend to get smaller normally. If you want smaller droplets you can drop a color in another color to layer on top of it. Once the whole bed has good coverage, my last few drops tend to stay small and compact.
