You see how you bent to put on your sneakers? I can not do that. I have to put on my shoes in a seating position and crossing the leg to bring it closer to my hands and with a cushion on my back. I have herniated disc and stenosis on L5-S1 To do the cobra exercise first I have to decompress my disc to liberate the pressure on disc and align it with the spine. When I hear and feel that crack sound then I am ready for the yoga mat. I haven't tried the roman chair yet, that's too extreme for my condition.

Don't listen to the folks that say your videos are too long. I watch your videos over and over. I also play them when i work-out. What you and Ben Patrick are teaching have changed my life and I'm 55 years old. I can train consistently now. I listen to the aches and pains and I have the tools to explore them now. I'm no longer taking two steps forward and then three steps back. At this age that can be disheartening. Thank you, thank you Thank you.

You've convinced me to buy a back extension 1.5 months ago. Game changer. I've recently had a breakthrough in my injury loop. I've dialed it back, and started working out every 3 days. I do 30 assisted back extensions, and a minute hold. I then added seated dumbbell good mornings, 90/90 abductor lifts, KOT calf raises (for plantar fasciatis), and butterfly lifts with 5 lb db's. I'm able to sit hours without any sort of discomfort now. It's slow, but it builds momentum, which is what matters.

Hi Tanner Would you like to recommend to me your bought back extension? The are different kind ones, and prices are from cheap till insane. I am planning to buy one which should last at lest 5 years. Of course, there will be wear and tear at the paddings, that is normal. Thanks mate, Quincy

@QuincyXD i have the valor fitness back extension, which is right about $300. How I look at it, is that it's cheaper than surgery, stem cell therapy, or injections. So I figured I'd get a nice quality one that would last a while

@terminator4974 If I did too much stretching in the hamstrings, lower back, and calves without much contraction of the muscles I'd get sciatica pain until I regressed, which would be about a 5/10 on pain. I still have pain while sleeping laying flat on a non-stiff mattress. I also discovered I have posterior pelvic tilt, which I deemed the primary reason why that was causing pain. For this I've been doing Single leg Elevated split squats, that LowBackAbility shows here in the video that has helped. Hope this helps

My own notes: - 7:50 - might hurt tomorrow, start with pad high, do 2 minutes with the pad at groin / hip area without pain - 10:50 - next 2-3 mo hinge reps of not full ROM, then full ROM into inversion - 12:15 - rotatorus with 1 leg - 13:35 tissue tolerance and flare-ups - 19:46 (22:45 for example) - squeeze, then stretch approach - 25:00, 27:06 - butterfly - 28:12 - deep squat hold helps aid hip impingement - 29:53 - more hip impingement exercises - 32:20 - Outer hip drop set - 35:40 - hip circuit - 36:15 - sports hernia - 38:01 - majority of people with hernia have hip impingement - 40:32 - low ab strengthening, had to start just by holding knee up - 43:40 - low ab strengthening - 45:48 - full range split squats

Today I could finally run without sciatic pain! It is really hard going trough a herniated disc, mentally and physically. Your channel helped me in both ways. Bro I’ve had major sacroiliac joint pain on my right side due to a dead lifting injury which was made worse when I was playing football and kicked the ball and it felt like somebody stabbed me in the back and I couldn’t move for 2 whole weeks. I recovered a little from rest as recommend by doctors. But then the pain was never going away after 6 months of constant pain and being awake at night. I went back to the hospital and they gave me a steroid injection and inflammation medication. I was pain free for 7 days….then back to sleepless nights in pain…I’ve just started the seated position you recommended for the past 2 days and Jesus I feel soreness but the pain and tightness is starting to get less all the hospital visits and who knew all I needed was your amazing KZbin video and advice! Thanks man I’ll hopefully keep making good progress and one day be pain free

Just listened to this entire thing. All of these secondary symptoms (tight hip flexor and adductor, raised hip, leg imbalances) I’ve all gone to a PT for. They’ve fixed one leg being longer, but neglected to really fix why it was happening. I was told to continue strengthening and stretching my adductor but it didn’t help by that much. My hip alignment is all off, but all of these exercises are so helpful and hopefully after a couple of months of doing these I’ll start getting rid of these imbalances. Thank you!

I've been doing some of your recommendations and I've finally had 2 weeks of no pain while squatting heavy. You were so right about my back weakness. My heavy squats and deadlifts did NOT mean my low back was strong. It wasn't even activating. I am doing my squats super controlled now, not allowing butt-win, focusing on having my back in extension. I having been doing the back extension holds, and you were right again. I was thrusting up using my glutes. Doing 10 reps without using my glutes as prime movers is so difficult. I plan to get up to 30. I appreciate you for making this a public announcement bro. My back thanks you too. My hips also have problems and Im listening to your advice here so that I can maybe correct those too. And I think I've had disc herniation, impingement but I know I've had a sports hernia. A big one. I'll keep on your advice. I'll be back to give more feedback when I have more to share. Also, I love the concepts of neurological trust. I am pretty sure these issues can even stem from 'emotional trauma'. The same mechanism can activate during trauma and over time, those areas get weak and the body keeps responding with the protective mechanism.

23:23 You are right. I was only doing stretches and twists of the spine, which eventually led to weak muscles, sciatica problems and eventually a herniated disc between the 4'th and the 5'th in the lower spine. I never did muscle pumps. I see that now. And to heal myself I did a lot of yoga which only made it worse. When you get to that stage of weakness in the seat muscles and lower back, stretching is the worst you can do. Need to get those muscles toned and pumped and back in shape.

This video is your best Brendan. Going to start incorporating the L sits into my current back routine. Reverse squat is getting pretty strong but my tolerance to the sit is so low and I've been flaring up for a month thinking I was in the clear. My hip is acting up and my back is bearing the brunt of it. Thanks for this piece of the puzzle. It's definitely going to help.

Golfer here. Injured my back in high school. It's never been the same and now my hips. You have described my life since 2002. Time to get a back extension and un-fuk my back and hips! Dont stop what youre doing!

Love your stuff bro. Keep making these long videos the info is invaluable and shows you actually want to educate and help rather than 10min “this one stretch cured my back pain!” Regarding the hip hike, do you think there’s value in adding extra volume in the imbalances? E.g my left adductor is weaker than my right in a right hip hike, but they’re both pretty tight. Would you do more iso holds on the left adductor/ and more stretching on the right adductor? Or just keep it equal and hope it balances? Cheers bro keep it up.

Love this "building evidence". Injury is lifelong building evidence and making adjustments. Not 3 months. Not even close. I'm inspired by this. We can do this. Glad I'm not the only one who gets super detailed about specifics and puts in the work daily. Frustrating and rewarding. High performance mentality.

Thank the angels for putting this in my feed. I have been in agony with something similar to what you said you were dealing with for over a year and doctors want to make my hip metal. I am going to try what you call "squeeze then lengthen" and try to make my internal groin muscles tremble because my whole issue is locked flexors and impingement. I'm subbed!

Thank you! Not too long I am fortunate that I do not have any mayor back injuries (yet). Just a really weak back, so the back trainer exercises will help a lot. Next to that I do a lot of yoga, which helps with all the tight hip flexors issues. But even though I do those things these videos helps me a lot understanding how things work and what to watch for. So thank you and keep these vids coming

Awesome content as always. Would really appreciate some more content on nerve pain and sciatica. This has been the biggest issue I've faced with my disc herniation.

The people who comment that your videos are too long are often times just surfing videos for the quick fix. They are like people who are looking for quick weight loss and health improvement who want a snack in a box. It took decades for many to come to their decline. It takes time for people to finally understand that they may have to give up something to get long lasting results.
