I was a postulant there in DC in 1987 and then on to the novitiate at Holy Hill. It was nice to relive those good memories, and especially nice to see the good number of young vocations! I miss my days in Carmel very much. God Bless you all and thanks for posting this. Fr Stephen Payne still looks good! :-) (All the best, Vinnie)

Thanks for posting this video. You will certainly be in my prayers. May God grant these men the strength, courage, and conviction to be a source of hope, wisdom, and light in the deepening darkness that shrouds this fallen world. 🙏

Hi! I have a question aren't Carmelites not allowed to eat meat according to the rule of St. Albert? (Unless they're sick or they're given it on journeys I think) Why were u guys cooking meat at 17:20 😭

or was this for the students?

The primitive Rule regulates a prohibition on meat, that is true, but over time the rule has been modified by the Constitutions and Norms. Is that appropriate or not? Well, that's certainly a debate. It's wrapped up in debates on the intention behind the prohibition and the circumstances of the present day. These things, are they allowed to change or no? It's beyond me, at the time, I just tried to follow as obedience required and charity inspired. I will say though that there are certain scriptural examples of prohibitions that were relaxed/modified over time in Christian practice, over the Jewish customs for example. The Council of Jerusalem decreed upon Paul's inquiry that the Gentiles wouldn't have to observe most of the customs of the Jewish religion, but nevertheless advised for the continued prohibition on meat containing blood for example, but this is not a concern for today's Christians. Perhaps at the time of the rule, meat was a special luxury but nowadays a fish will cost just as much or more per pound. As for the argument that meat fires the passions more than other foods, well, does it? You judge a tree by it's fruits I guess. Did I meet good and holy men who devoted their lives and effort to divine union and bringing others to believe and experience God? Yes, yes, yes!

Why don't you go get a real job.
@KenofOurLadyAndTheTrinity10 ай бұрын
For what? For money? These friars have the greatest and "realest" jobs in existence, to offer sacrifice and to act in persona Christi. What job could even compare to that? No amount of money can compare to being consumed by the Living Flame of Love.
