I had the opportunity to interact with him at the Delhi Airport when I was returning back to Chennai during 1st week of July. He is very simple, down to earth person with no egos. For a person who is holding such a high position in a premier Academic institution, his simplicity is really amazing. The way in which he said he misses his father the most, was literally touching. Perhaps, after Abdul kalam, our former president, he is the biggest role model for our country and students.

I met Sri. Kamakoti Sir in a marriage. My friend's daughter wanted to take a photograph with him. I immediately approached him. He was a stranger to me but he immediately accepted my request and called that child talked her and took a selfie with her. It was his greatness and i wonder about his humbility. You can argue from both sides. Brahmins over-the-top domination over the years led to the very basis of Dravidan movement and now the same movement has gone overboard in suppressing the Brahmins which led to a mass exodus to greener pastures.

That’s not the point. I’m trying to say our political system is still strategizing the divide and hate towards Brahmins. With the reservation system there is absolutely no spot left for Brahmins. Trust me, as long as Brahmins are around, there will be discipline and decorum for sure.

For context, IITs have been given a budget of ₹10,202.5 crore for 2024-25, which makes it important to question the impact of such statements from someone in this position.

@@ptj1ptj172 Prehaps you grew up in a city environment with good family background (in education). You perhaps don't understand what it takes to come out of a one room - one teacher school in a tiny village. In addition to that imagine the situation when both your parents and most of the folks in your village have never gone beyond the tiny one teacher school in the village. It is very tough. I know what I am talking about. I have gone through all this! Eventually due to very hard work and with some luck, I sailed through the system and obtained Ph.D from one of the top universities in US. I was offered a faculty position at IITM. I declined it, and joined the IISC at Bangalore. I hope you understand that I am not making a statement just for registering my comment. I am talking out of my experience.

@@NM-fc8vu with due respects to your achievements, l kind of concur with your overall point, but also beg to differ on certain grounds. We have a plethora of engineering schools in India and not everyone gets the same funding and facilities as IITs and NITs. So it is of paramount importance that you set some real high standards there if at all you want some ground-breaking researches to happen. We can empathise with those who lack proper facilities to excel, but that shouldn't just be the criteria to make it to these institutions. By the way, I am a non-brahmin, NITT passout and I have already seen what crap goes on in the PhD programs of NITT under the name of research! Long story short, keep admissions to Undergrad programs a bit flexible, but set defined standards for masters and doctoral programs, for a good 4 yrs of UG is enough to prove your mettle for some quality research at these public funded institutes. Unfortunately the opposite happens in India.

@@ptj1ptj172 I agree with you about graduate programs. Only well qualified candidates should be admitted in Ph.d programs. They should have creative original thinking. In my comment, I mostly referred to only the undergraduate programs at IITs and IIScs. Just because someone has scored high marks in JEEE exams does not mean they are super intelligent or creative. Infact, if you look at the statistics, most of the research scientists and engineers are non IIT people. Mylsamy Annadurai, Sivan, Veeramuthu,etc., are all nonbramins from ordinary science and engineering colleges. City students have many avenues to prepare for entrance exams, whereas village students do not have those facilities. Due to internet, the situation may be a little different now.
