ABOUT THIS WATCH:
Rolex announced its latest novelties and which watches will be leaving its current production catalog during Watches and Wonders 2024. Some of the discontinued offerings are the remarkable fluted and palm motif dial watches released in 2021.
It isn’t unusual for Rolex to only produce special features like unusual motif dials for a short time, and that appears to be what they have done with the special Datejust models.
This week’s live unboxing couldn’t have come at a better time - the coveted blue fluted dial Datejust ref. 126200.
Ref. 126200 is the latest iteration of the Oystersteel Datejust 36, replacing ref. 116200 just a few years ago and introducing the collection to the latest and greatest time-and-date Rolex movement - caliber 3235.
As a modern Rolex, ref. 126200 also sports features such as 904L-grade Oystersteel in a dynamic brushed and polished finish, a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, and an engraved rehaut. The Oyster case is still waterproof up to 100 meters, featuring Rolex’s innovative Twinlock screw-down crown with two hermetically sealed zones.
What makes ref. 126200 particularly collection-worthy is the blue dial, decorated with a newer fluted motif modeled after the brand’s famous fluted bezel. Rows of fluting add just enough dimension to the watch to add character without appearing too busy or over-the-top.
Of course, baton hour markers filled with Rolex’s newest Chromalight lume also adorn the dial in white gold settings. The result is a Rolex that is fresh, contemporary, and unique.
WHEN DID ROLEX RELEASE THE FLUTED DIAL DATEJUST?
Rolex released the striking fluted dial alongside the palm motif dial in 2021, exclusively within the Datejust collection.
Ref. 126200 is an Oystersteel edition with a blue dial. However, several iterations of the funky Datejust were also available, including a Yellow Rolesor model with a champagne fluted dial and a White Rolesor model with a blue fluted dial like the Oystersteel model featured in this video.
HOW MUCH IS THE FLUTED DIAL ROLEX DATEJUST REF. 126200?
When it debuted in 2021, ref. 126200 retailed for $7,450. Now that it has been discontinued expect fluted dial Datejusts to command a much higher premium on the secondary market as demand continues to rise.
As of April 2024, models similar to the one unboxed in this video are reselling between $10,000 and $15,000.
