Borneo hillstream loaches are natives in my area. in the wild, they loves fast flowing water while feeding on a river rocks. They pretty much like to be in shallow water where stream is rapid. i hardly found them on waist deep water even though there is noticeable flow. Caught few for myself and they are hardy fish. they are red, blue and zebra Gastromyzon sp. in one section of the river stream alone. loves them so much, created 3 feet tank river style tank just for them which closely resemble to their naturally biotope with high turn over rate from oversize hang on back filter. so far they have been amazing fish!

That’s amazing, thanks for sharing firsthand knowledge on how they live in the wild. Must be so cool to see them and fun to catch!

I have a green gecko loach that I just picked up last week at LFS, I’m glad Cameron mentioned they change their colors. The lil guy (looks to be male, compared to the large females in this video) was green when I dropped him in, now he’s changed to a brown/red to match his favorite log. So cool seeing him dart around from branch to branch. Very fast, almost like teleport. There’s basically no info online about these critters. He hasn’t seemed too interested in the Fluval Bug Bite Pleco Sticks or Hikari Algae Wafers yet, but he does pounce on little betta pellets (main ingredients: black soldier fly larvae, salmon, spirulina - 42% protein). Sharing for anybody else that is blessed to keep these fish. Love the content as always!

SUCH a great video! One of the best-est fishes IMO! 🤗 And the red fins on those was crazy cool! I had to zoom in and pause just to look at it! So pretty!

I love hillstream loaches. They are just so fun! If I could own and breed all 200+ species, I'd do it in a hot second. Mine have done fine in a no flow aquarium, but I now have an aquarium which I designed to flow like a mountain creek with a pretty good flow, and little pools of slack/still water at places along the way. The hillstream loaches seem to prefer the fast flowing parts for the most part.

My water is liquid rock with pH of 8.0. Did he mention anything about hard water tolerance? I'd love to keep some hill stream loaches.

Mine as well at 7.8 pH. I kept them successfully and I have some that are over 3 years old.

My water is 8.2-8.4 and they do well and breed for me. I think you will be good 😃

I live in China where we have several indigenous hillstream loaches, so I've kept about two dozen different species, but I still haven't ever kept any of the five in this video.

I think these are so cool but have never kept any. One day I may give them a go. They are so neat looking!

Hillstreams are quite possibly my favorite fish in my aquariums. I keep lineolata and albisuera right now and can confirm that are incredibly hard to catch 😕 will definitely try the catching options you listed!

Hi, I have a quick question here, what temperature should you keep these for optimal health?. There a lot of conflicting information on the net. Thanks
@SteenfottAquaticsАй бұрын
I keep mine in the low 70s. You can keep them warmer. The warmer the water the more oxygen they'll need as they have small swim bladders.

I believe the second hillstream loach is a ‘Bloody Mary’…
