How cool is that? However I am used to inches and fractions and really am too old and set in my ways to learn decimals. Still I could have a blast playing with the thing. Happy Tuesday, and thanks for the fun video.

Thanks so much as always for watching and commenting Pat. You know you are so correct, you aren't the only one that brought up that fraction issue. That seems like it would be such an easy thing to add. I know this tool is a kickstarter project, so I bet this is the kind of feedback they are looking for. Thank you so much for sharing!

What a gadget! I could see a huge functionality for fine tuning material costs for construction projects. Most people (that I know) will do a calculation and then add a fudge factor and end up having a lot of excess material left at the end of someone else’s project. For one of my own projects, I try to be pretty precise on materials, particularly with today material costs. Good review. Thanks.

I totally agree with you Michael. It's kind of one of those tools that's really neat to take a look at, but not something I'd be using on a daily basis. Since us woodworkers deal with pretty small measurements, and need to make tick marks, etc. on our wood, it doesn't really fit. But what a great piece of tech. I'm sure it will be very useful to some people! Thanks for watchign and commenting!

Can you use both lasers at the same time? Say measuring gride on a floor for tiling. Use the distance measuring laser to point at the wall. then marking the ground using the other laser. This could also help to know how many inches wide you want the end tiles, so you can center the tiles on your floor easier. (I think I hurt my brain thinking again) I suppose you could just use the tape part, but both laser at the same time would just be cool.

Great question Roy. I suspect the answer is yes, but I'm not 100% sure on that. I have since packed up this tool for my renovation otherwise I would just go and test that real quick. Sorry I can't give you a more definitive answer!

Flynndog, I can certainly see where having the charging port on the battery seems like an inconvenience. However this would allow you to have multiple batteries and charge one outside the unit while using another. It does give you a "zero downtime" scenario. BTW really enjoy your content!

What a great point John! Thank you for sharing. I totally didn't think about that benefit. You could totally have a battery charging on the side while you are off using the tool. Thank you so much for pointing this out, really great point! Thanks so much for watching, your kind words, and watching! :)

Yes! I beleive that is true. I would love to do a short on that if I had an extra tape! I would recommend contacting the company, it has been my expereince that they are very responsive. I'm sure they could give some instructional material on that. I've never done it before so I'm not sure I would be the right person to do it! :). Great question though!

So do I have to make a cheat sheet with every 1/16" of decimal conversions? Or if I'm using the laser will it show me the virtual tape so I can see that .875 is 7/8"? Also, what is the accuracy? is it plus/minus 1/32" ? Does the virtual screen snap to the closest 1/16" or can you visually see it move 1/64" at a time?!?
@FlynndoggWoodwork
@FlynndoggWoodwork 9 ай бұрын
Great questions! I’ll need to refer back to this tool. If I remember correctly you can either use decimals or fractions both for the tape and the laser… and I just realized it’s sitting in the bench in front of me. It has a readout with both decimals and fractions at the same time. Looks like the accuracy is 1/32’’ if you are using the fractions, decimals has a tighter readout. Looks like the readout snaps back to the closest 1/32’’ for the readout. But if you are using decimals you can get in between 1/32’’ (and the virtual tape measure shows that readout). Hope this helps and thanks for watching!

It looks really cool, but that does seem like a huge over site with the charging situation. whats really disappointing is that I was unable to find a place to purchase a second battery or the so called replaceable tape measure. there's a website with nothing but the tool and a little info. there's a kickstarter and it was their first project and they've never backed anything else. at least with an additional battery, you could just swap them out when needed.

Thank you so much for sharing this information! I just looked myself to see if replacement blades and or batteries were available, and I could not find either one available online at least (which is where I do all my shopping). Sounds like they have a few bumps in the road ahead of them. I was so excited to show off the tech of this tool, I did not look into the availability of replacement parts. Really appreciate you sharing this!

Great review Brian! I didn’t hear it mentioned, but what’s your thoughts on toughness? Do you think it’s tough enough for job site work and mishaps?
@FlynndoggWoodwork
@FlynndoggWoodwork Жыл бұрын
Great question James! Someone else had asked the same question. I probably should have dug into that a little deeper. It feels quite tough similar to a dewalt or a milwaukee tape measure, but That doesn't mean it will still work after being dropped from a considerable height. Great question and I wish I had a better answer for you!
@w9jim
@w9jim Жыл бұрын
I'd like to you compare the measurements it gets with a "real" tape measure (at various distances). Also, having been a carpenter most of my working carrier, I bet that thing would not survive on a jobsite. How many times can you drop it before it breaks? Is it waterproof? (I often worked when it was drizzling.) How does it handle hot or cold? I've worked in 100 degree heat and frigid below 0 degrees temperatures. Might be an OK shop tool, if you are into that kind of thing. But then, it's expensive!
@FlynndoggWoodwork

What great questions w9jim! Now you got me thinking I need to do a more in depth review. I really like your real life examples. All excellent questions, and I wish I could answer them. Thank you so much for sharing and watching. I will tell you, that the tape measure did feel very well built. Similar to some of my thicker skinned dewalt tape measures etc. (if thicker skinned is a thing in the tape measure world). Rain, would be a good test, cold... well I'll get to test that out here soon! Thanks again for watching!

It apparently doesn't read fractions. No one measures feet or inches in decimals. Telling the ground crew you need a board 13.701 feet will get you laughed of the job site. It doesn't have 16" centers marked on the tape. If the battery dies layout is going to be a royal PIA for anything over 8 feet. Hard pass.

Tapes are ephemeral. They wear out or get broken. I rather chuck a $20 tape than one that costs 10x. That won’t fit in tool pouch! What happens when you drop from the top of a ladder? Then there’s the decimal feet. I can buy a bucket of tapes and a laser and still have lunch money. It the answer to a question nobody asked
