Last year I moved out out to a big city for a new job and couldn't come home to visit until well into January. I worked all day Christmas, where we had a pot-luck for lunch, which was awesome. But I got out that night and was driving home looking for somewhere to just grab some food and saw an Indian Restaurant PACKED with cars. So I went in and got some Tikka Masala and Garlic Naan at the bar, and met a ton of new friends old and young just there at a place open on Christmas Night. It was amazing sharing some drinks and great food and sharing stories about why we were away from everyone that year. I called my family that night and they were SO happy to hear I made something special and new out of the night even though I couldn't be home. There is nothing like being with family and friends for the Holidays, but there is also something uniquely special about making an amazing night out of something that could just be at your apartment alone, and it takes a community and a bit of courage to go out and do that. I'll never forget that Christmas.

Usually, a child going full no-contact has more to do with how the parent behaved towards them than anything else. Regardless, I hope you can find it in yourself to find a community to spend holidays going with forward, after some introspection; if you realize what pushed him away, you can change those behaviors, and connect more easily with more people. I really, truly hope you find it within yourself to change, grow, and connect. Strangers are only strangers until you get to know them. Much love and peace to you during the upcoming holidays.

I saw my nephew do this with my sister, and she says the same thing as you… that she doesn’t know why etc Yet he has outright said exactly what is wrong and she refuses to listen or believe him. She brushes him off as if he’s making a big deal of things. She is disrespectful with his choices and tries to control him - and everyone else - which is why she is now alone. All I’m saying to you is, be honest with yourself and go digging. Really look at yourself and find patterns of behaviour. Get really humble, write him a letter and apologise for all your mistakes and that you want to listen and really hear his heart… He would have said why, perhaps you ignored him or brushed off his concern’s because they don’t matter to you? The last 5 years i live in England (45 years old now), and i was supporting financially my parents however i could. The point is that when my dad died hundreds of people was calling to my mom for condolences and then we discover that my dad was taking his money (50 euros or less..) for shoping and was buying meat and vegies for poor people that he knew in other villages. He never ever said something to anybody. We found out now. I couldn't be in the funeral, didn't say a proper good bye whet. Dad i love you. Panos.

I can relate to this so much. I used to go to waffle house on Thanksgiving and Christmas for dinner because it was the only place open. I would tip each worker and cook 10$ because it's all I really could afford to do, but with my family 1000 miles away and me not being able to afford missing work, it was the only option. I'll forever respect waffle house workers.

I wanted to comment again to just mention my mad love and respect to the kitchen crew. I know full well just how hard it can be in the kitchen because you're always in the background while people get to enjoy your passion. It's so amazing to see chefs and cooks that are still passionate about their craft. You can tell they're plenty happy just seeing people enjoy their food. They even worked in the holidays for free. Seriously, I wish for nothing but success and good fortune for the kitchen staff and the maker of this video. PS. Bless whomever the dishwasher(s) were.

This makes me tear up quite a bit. I was a foreign student alone by myself in Sydney in Christmas 2017. Had a group of friends from college with myself being the only one from my country and didn't live near the others in the group, which means we weren't close enough to spend Christmas together and such. And in Sydney, the malls and most of the restaurants closed on holidays and I forgot to buy any food the day before. I didn't plan anything to be honest bc I didn't know things would end up like that, so not only did I have to be by myself but I also had to starve. I decided to take the bus to the city, at least to surround myself with strangers, and I ended up sitting by myself, tearing up, looking out in the water, trying to message my one closest friend who happened to be with her boyfriend and was trying to console me, in Darling Harbour area with people walking past me. Never felt more isolated in my entire life. I was starving and was too embarrassed to walk in any restaurant that I saw was opened by myself (not that I had enough money to eat at the restaurants in that area by myself anyway). I was just sad and my mind was in such a blur I didn't remember how I feed myself that day, I probably didn't eat, to be honest. I've never felt more depressed in my entire life until then. I was always an introverted loner, never celebrate Christmas even once in my entire life (not a thing in my country), but the feeling of being by yourself far away from your family, having people I can call friends but at the same time cannot, and knowing that people around you have someone to go back to, was pure torture. The point is something like this would have been...nice. If this happened to me back then I would enjoy every minute of it and be grateful for the rest of my life. I don't know if anyone in this video was in the same situation as myself or not, but what you did definitely lift and light up their day for sure. I thank you for that.

@poppy i hope you re good now and having/spending a nice life, it's sad to read this. And 1 thing that I learned from this video is not to be afraid talking with somebody or be embarrassed by asking something, we live only once and we must make our life beautiful. Best of luck mate

I guess people like us just need the exposure. Thing is, to me, it seemed that people we're exactly like that. Not sure what to expect or say and, dare i say, a little stiff or reserved. At first. But once more people start arriving and they start talking and feeling the warmth of the environment and the alcohol starts trickling in, you'll likely realize that everyone feels the same way. And that knowledge alone helps interacting and opening up so much easier, because *you're not alone*. And Brad, the Host, was so happy and charismatic that it's contagious. Maybe i'm just rambling, but this video made me very happy. I'm sure i'd feel the same if i was actually there.

If you feel it is against your religion to celebrate a secular Christmas holiday season, then celebrate with family in friends in giving thanks to Allah for seasonal changes, and the return of longer days and the promise of spring (in the northern hemisphere at least). @@David.124 respectfully, christmas has become a secular holiday celebrated by members of all Faith's and no faith. Recent years of commericaliztion and general warm fuzzies have effectively remove the Christian faith from the holiday season around christmas for many which itself is a plagiarized celebration of the celebration of the winter soltice from pagan worshippers of old. Now, I hold no I'll will toward those that use the holiday to celebrate the birth of their messianic figure. Personally, I feel it adds to the lore and richness surrounding the season. But regardless of faith or lack thereof, it can and is celebrated secularly around the globe using the colloquial holiday celebration of Christmas as for many, that is all it is known by. The sharing of food and gifts with family and friends should never be the sole providence of one faith, it should be open to all, just as christ opened salvation to those who were not his people.
