From just the writing perspective, I'd say Ging's most likely to be a natural Enhancer, taken to the logical extreme. Enhancers are the most balanced of the Nen users, having access to all the basic Nen categories in equal amount (80% Emission and Transmutation, 60% Conjuration and Manipulation), unlike other Nen affinities, which always put one usable Nen category at 40%. Given that he's had what seems like decades of experience with Nen, it's logical to assume that he's not only mastered Enhancement but all the other Nen categories up to his greatest potential. That, combined with his raw natural talent and skill in aura control, would allow him to go around the "Enhancer = simple Hatsu" rule of thumb - he could still have a relatively simple Enhancer-based hatsu, but his ability to replicate other's Nen abilities and put his own creative spin on them will allow him to find either a simple Nen technique in a given category, or an ability he's learned from somebody else to apply to virtually any situation. Essentially, Ging seems to be a Jack of All Trades when it comes to Nen, but, given his level of experience and talent, by no means a "Master of None".

If he is a natural Enhancer, then he wouldn't even really need a hatsu - an enhancer can get by entirely on basic and advanced Nen techniques, which is why few of them have a complex Hatsu. That in turn would give him more freedom to experiment with other Nen types and be satisfied with using the basics along with abilities he copied from others without bothering of creating his own unique one

I say this because Nen abilities are influenced by their user. when did we see Ging demonstrating the most passion? when he talked about finding and preserving ruins, and the joy he got when his peers acknowledged him. finding something and making it better is his passion and access to the whole Nen circle would would allow him to do this to the effect we see. I honestly believe his ability is something as simple as that and hes just smart enough to add his own natural skills into the mix.

I don't actually know that he was a schemer. He schemed, yes, but he did that because he was bored. Why was he bored? He ran out of strong opponents. Remember he trained his martial arts, and then decided that it would be a good idea to go into the mountains and perform 10,000 punches of gratitude day after day after day. Then he came back and showed off his new strength my using overwhelming power to mercilessly defeat every opponent in front of him. That there is THE critical, formative events of his life and there is no scheming to be found.

He does seem to able to attract and build relationships with the few high caliber people he does finds useful. He just pushes away the rest. I would say he is charismatic because he has presence and whether its negatively or positively perceived, its still charisma. He has an "oomph" to his social being; he doesn't try to exploit it often (or does so subtly). Characters without charisma are simply flat or unnoticeable.

Considering Ging's personality and natural talent for Nen we can guess he's most likely a specialist. This probably give him an affinity in every type of Nen because of said talent. Or maybe he were born a Transmuter and later specialized due to the environment he grew or experienced in. Either way, we know he is a triple star Hunter; these type of Hunters are usually the best of the best and have shown skills in multiple fields/professions. Specialists are described as very unique, mysterious/vague individuals, this description fits Ging perfectly. Also, being able to read people shows that Ging has social skills, thus charisma. Demonstrating his cleverness even more. He can easily read the intention of others using wits and experience, in order to dismiss anything anyone is planning to do against him, as he always think several moves ahead just so he can keep control of the situation. He is versatile, composed, cunning, has a great will and a good heart. The definition of a Hunter.

I feel you ruled out one big info: Gon. We've seen families have similar nen affinities (Zoldyck white hair transmutation / black hair manipulation) so Enhancer is still a serious candidate. Especially considering he can copy punches specifically, which suggests he's a brawler.

The only problem is that this piece of information only has a sample size of one family so it could just as easily be an outlier or something that the Zoldyck's have from generations of nen users while it seems like in Gon's family as least on his father's side only him and Ging. Plus for the Zoldyck's they still have three different nen types out of six from known members with most of them being transmuters or manipulators and with Maha being an enhancer. So this isn't a rule even the Zoldyck's follow very closely which makes it not very reliable. By this logic Gon could just as easily be an enhancer because of his mom and not his dad.

You should have mentioned Ging's feat of manipulating his tape. He used Manipulation to give a command that perfectly activated 10 years later, Emission to put aura into the tape, and Enhancement to make the tape player strong enough to block Killua's punch. The Manipulation command was also capable of overriding electricity itself. Ibokuri involves Transmutation (though it's not a reflection of one's skills), and Ging defeated a master of the game.

One thing I haven't seen mentioned in the comments in favor of Ging being a Specialist has to do with how he setup the Greed Island reward system. If we're talking about Specialist limiting their relationships and such, him having accompany sending Gon away and having Magnetic Force bring him right to Ging, I think this is a pretty solid indicator of a specialist personality. Just think about the transmuters we've seen, they've all actually been pretty open and easy-going about relationships (take Killua's dad and Zeno vs. Illumi and the rest of his family). Yet Ging is very specific and detailed about his relationships. I would prefer transmuter as his affinity, but he kinda acts like a specialist in this respect.

"natural talent" is an overstatement that implies that it is his nen ability. He is just really good at nen that he doesn't have to expend a lot of concentration to copy strike type nen abilities. Probably an enhancer with nothing complicated for his hatsu. He doesn't need it, he can adapt and manipulate nen in the transmutation and emission category so well, he could be just creating abilities on the fly given the situation. Need to make a rope and hook, transmute it. Need to create a fire at a distance, emit it. He is probably just that flexible.

Also I'm surprised you stated he was closest to a transmuter when he really isn't. He shares almost no personality traits with one. Transmitters at usually described as whimsical liars, who put forth facades, and rarely reveal their true intentions. However, Going only doesn't reveal his true intentions, and that's it. He never puts up any facade, he's a stubborn idiot, through and through, this is clearly seen at the end of the election arc where he gets into a large brawl with all the hunters there. He never makes an effort to hide who he truly is as a person, it's just most people can't see him past his obvious character traits. During the GI arc, Bisky makes a deal of transmuter s being liars yet Ging rarely lies. He's only lied to Elena, but that was so obvious she saw right through it. He's secretive about his nen ability, but most experienced user's are as well, hell when Pariston directly asks if copying abilities is his Hatsu, he tells him straight up that it isn't and if he wants to learn he'd have to fight Ging. He was open to Gon about just wanting to show him GI and even told him that he wasn't there. I'd say maybe whimsical applies but you keep going on about how serious Ging is so I doubt you thought about that. Ging at best is secretive, not deceitful. He keeps information hidden sure, but doesn't openly mislead others. In terms of personality, he doesn't fit with transmitters. He's much more of an emitter or enhancer. While yes he isn't simple, he is hella stubborn, determined, dismissive, and barely lies, enthusiastic and playful. Several comparisons have been drawn to Gon which are accurate, he does act alot like gon. I'd say he fits much more into the conjurer personality type but yeahz transmuter doesn't fit whatsoever

There's an additional reason I believe Ging could lean toward Emission, and that is a small detail in the Greed Island arc of the manga, where Bisky makes an observation about Gon, while he's obviously an enhancer, she believes Gon's affinity leans slightly towards emission rather than transmutation. And assuming Nen affinity has anything to do with genes, which would make a lot of sense considering it's something you're born with (however not the only factor), and the similar affinities of the Zoldyck family. This makes me think that Gon inherited some of his talents in emission from Ging, as he has shown to be incredibly talented at it. I also tend to think of Ging as an enhancer considering how much he likes punching things, so his affinity might also lie there. Perhaps he is just like Gon, a natural enhancer with slightly more talent in emission, or an emitter with slightly more talent in enhancement. I honestly have never even considered Ging to be anything other than these two possibilities, however, anything is possible with how monsterously skilled and powerful Ging must secretly be.

Of course this applies to varying degrees and in different ways with different manipulators, you could argue Ging is manipulative, but if anything he seems more fickle, or simply wants to explore and challenge himself(otherwise, if he was a manipulator, he would stick around and keep things under his control). I haven’t finished the video yet so maybe the video counters this or already went through this, but- In my view, Ging is a person that understands the importance of allies but doesn’t cling to them, is obsessed with discovering incredible and rare thing, which also makes him a rarity that attracts others, and people are inclined to help him or simply be around him, but he can be a bit fickle and very closed off about himself- putting up facades or not sticking for too long. All of this describes a Specialist, and *maybe* a transmuter, but transmuters always change goal because they themselves don’t exactly know themselves so they act more on impulse. There’s still a chance he’s a manipulator, but based on your points, and what we know about his personality so far, it’s very unlikely.

7:49 He isn't nervous? I'd argue from what's shown he's actually really nervous when it comes to social situations. Yeah he can string together a formidable plan, but when Gon tries talking to him he struggles to get out a word. From his past interaction with Elena it's also suggested he's at the very least antisocial and shy. Of course I'm no psychologist so of course don't take my word as fact but from what I've read, he could be socially anxious. Of course he doesn't actually show all the symptoms and seems to hold most conversations pretty well, though one could argue those were either when he was really close friends or maybe he doesn't tend to get anxious in things he doesn't view as social situations? (It's not sound logic of course). Though I'm mainly talking about his fear of talking with Gon as he kinda abandoned the kid, and it's clear he doesn't want to face him. He becomes self-conscious about how he's treated him and is afraid of how it'll look to Gon and also the others during the election. Hell he even does kinda beat the shit out of the audience for being judgemental about him

He is most probably just an enhancer or an emitter. He doesn't really get nervous or anxious. He does show signs of getting angry, but it could be just his straightforward character. He isn't that argumentative or likes fickle lies. It'd be boring if his eccentric character makes him a specialist imo, but he is probably specialist, but it'd be really cool if he was an emission or enhancer type.

The fact that Ging can “copy” any punch type ability and the fact that Gon is an enhancher(he got that DNA from someone), leads me to strongly believe that he is an enhancher.Also i am 100% sure that Pariston is a Transmuter so Ging being one also undermines their eventual clash in my opinion.He is just an enhancher with a serious brain and expirience as a hunter, that is why traits from all around the board can be found in him.

Another possible point for transmutation is that since he must he Hit by an attack to mimic it, a transmuter should have a easier time molding their own aura in a similar fashion as well as having an easier time changing and adapting it to better fit their own strikes

I've had a theory about Ging for a long, long time. I believe that Gon *is* Ging, or a piece of him anyway. So, I think Ging/Gon are Enhancers. Or, maybe Gon is just a Nen creation of Ging's. Ging's incredibly in depth understanding of ancient, modern, and theoretical Nen makes it plausible.. Or, maybe he found something on the Dark Continent that allowed him to transfer a piece of his soul into a new life, creating a baby? Kite's Lucky Slots ability has that power, after all. It also supports the reason Gon's mother is a total mystery.. Also gives reason to why Ging has been trying to train Gon up since early childhood, even creating Greed Island as a training sim of sorts.

When he picks up the specialist guy on beyonds team he scared him with his physical punch feints. And being able to copy only strike type abilities further strengthens that theory.

I am 99% sure that Ging is an Enhancer. Personality-wise he is predominantly guided by emotions when setting his goals (he just gets bored out of official and important duties) and the selfish part is really not that far fetched at all I think, he's a lot in a "I'm going to do it my way, try and keep up" whenever he's up to something. He is a simple man too, even if he is a smart one: he does not need or want much, he just knows how to get to it. The fact that Enhancers focus on simple abilities is also very much still a green light here since, because of his immense skill in the art of nen, even "complex" abilities are stupidly simple to him. Isaac Netero, despite being an Enhancer, had one hell of a complex Hatsu. There are several other factors that could point to Enhancement, hypothetical heredity rules for example or the fact that narrative-wise it would be something to have an(other) enhancer on the same level as Kuroro, but the real tell-tale sign for me is his level of mastery over Nen. On the Nen hexagon, you might notice that the closer a person is to Specialization, the more they have a tendency to use a refined Hatsu, whereas the Emitters and Transmuters use their aura in a rawer sense and Enhancers, like Wing said, have no true need for a hatsu. Even if an enhancer has a hatsu, it tends to be a combination of other nen techniques, with which the Enhancers seem generally more proficient than other nen users. The fact that Ging can emit and transmute the shape and size of his aura with such ease, and reproduce any Hatsu he has seen so far, leads me to think that he has a total mastery of every base of nen manipulation and thus points towards an Enhancement type of affinity. TLDR : he is way closer to the concept of Nen as the manipulation of aura that he is to the concept of Hatsu and that is a very enhancer thing to do. I could also see him Specialization, just because that is such a rare and unpredictable category that almost anyone with a bit of charisma could fit in there, but that's very random. Love the content, keep up the good work on both channels !

I think Togashi's intention was to showcase Ging with at least some traits of every Nen user to make it intentionally obscure and hard to tell. For whatever reason, that rings off bells in my mind telling me that he's a specialist. Possibly because in my mind specialists more or less encompass all nen types in some way or another, and is supported by the fact that the affinity he shares the least traits with it Enhancement. However if it weren't Specialization, I would personally go for Emission or Transmutation as well.

I mostly agree with the conclusion, and in the subject of his actual hatsu, while it could be a hatsu that elevates his “talent” to an even better “replicate” technique, i think based on his nature, he might be inclined to an ability that puts him out of trouble or gives him “space/time” and hindsight. He doesn’t seem too interested in physical conflict, and more interested in keeping things peaceful as long as possible- plus, with the effectiveness of his natural nen talent, that could be what he uses if he needs to get physical, and if he had always had it, he must have made an ability that works in a more versatile/defensive way, having known he can fall back to his talent if something physical is needed(and even then, he needs to be punched first, supporting his peaceful “i’d rather not hurt others unless im hurt or in danger” personality) Im inclined to him being a specialist due to his very goal driven character towards “discovery”/“reaching new places”, something most transmutes lack as they themselves have a hard time settling on what they want and can change their minds later on. Not only that, but many people all over hunter x hunter’s world find Ging remarkable, and are allured by him, in the quest to find him. A trait that’s very inlined with specialists, as they naturally attract the curiosity of others and have an allure towards them. Perhaps, his ability only activates when he’s attacked, and/or, again, serves to be on the defensive and avoid conflict with others, or give some space (maybe it is part of the reason why he’s so hard to find, tho i doubt it’s *the* reason, sense he probably would use it sparingly as he doesn’t seem like he’d be interested in showing off his hatsu and get recognized/caught with it, unless absolutely necessary) All that being said- he really could be a transmuter or an emitter, or any of the others as far as we know, we haven’t seen too much of him to really say for sure, but my other 2 bets would be in emitter(has a decent chance, his somewhat emotional/shy actions and understanding of others emotions seem to be a decent argument, the bleed over traits of enhancer and manipulator could be argued as a reason for his motivation towards finding the new continent and perhaps Don Freecss ) and then of course transmuter(not super likely imo, but 3rd most likely)

I think its stated that everyone has a chance of changing into a specialist, and the closer your type is to specialization the more likely with conjurer/manipulator the most likely having a 1% chance. However I dont think it is possible to change into any other type, like an emitter into a conjurer or something like that.

I have been thinking that Ging is probably an enhancer and his Hatsu is to enhance his Memory and learning ability which is very well suited to his backstory as an archeologist and explains how he developed his "knack" of learning other hatsu's. The other part of his hatsu likely involves some kind of future telling also based on his archeology background and an explanation of how he knew Gon would recover from his nen curse.
