Discovering Hope in Science: Episode 5 Recipes for Community Engagement: Tailored Cooking Interventions
In this episode of Discovering Hope in Science, we hear from Dr. Nicole Farmer, a Staff Scientist at the NIH Clinical Center and the Acting Section Chief of the Dietary Behaviors and Biopsychosocial Health Section within the Translational Biobehavioral and Health Disparities Branch.
Dr. Farmer discusses her findings in her published article, "Assessing Acceptability: The Role of Understanding Participant, Neighborhood, and Community Contextual Factors in Designing a Community-Tailored Cooking Intervention".
The study investigates the low prevalence of healthy diets among African American adults with cardiovascular disease risk factors in low food access areas. The study underscores the importance of culturally sensitive and community-driven approaches to improve dietary habits and reduce health disparities.
