Super important contrast to most other KZbin photographers’ videos - you need not travel to exotic locations to take some awesome photos- capturing what you know the way you see it, is the art.

Hi Adam, I know this is an older video but I find your videos really peaceful and soothing. The photos in this video are stunning and the sage green of the moss and trees in the background really highlights the orange of the main subjects. It was inspiring to see you find a little spot and not really know where you were going to shoot as this is generally how I do it and thought I must be doing it wrong as I've only been at it for 18 months. I agree - the light is the most important thing.

Adam, your video has awakened my enthusiasm. Living in the forested area of Pennsylvania, we have many such opportunities as you do, but am not a great fan of the bitter cold and wet cloudy weather we have had for the majority of our winter. So, your video and the excellent discussion on your composition awakened that desire within to go out and look around for a good pic. I loved your pictures and the options . Bill.

To be fair I found watching the Instagrammers to be quite fascinating. These guys brought a changing tent and a pile of clothing props including the typical Instagram floppy sun hats. These young women must have been freezing out in the frosty morning air with tank tops and floppy hats. Ah to be young again, perhaps if I was the same age might be playing my music out loud and goofing around with good friends. It's all good, fun in Vancouver Island.

Great to see how you work with your photography on your own home turfs Adam! Back here in my own Swedish environment I sometimes think back on the days when I lived on Salt Spring Island, next to Vancouver Island. Especially I would love to come back and visit the fantastic Arbutus forests that I experienced on the western side of Mt Tuam on the island! Don’t get me wrong, I just love the nordic environment I’m in right now too, but when some of those lovely Arbutus trees showed up in todays video from you I couldn’t help my self but starting to fantasize about going back one day for a second visit. I also have fond memories of the lovely hummingbirds buzzing around my cabin up on the high rocks locking out over the archipelago to the south. Quite often we also had Bald eagles circling on the rising warm winds high in the sky. On clear days I could see all the way down to Mt Rainer beyond the Olympic mountains (state Washington) in the south, from the cabin too. The Canadian west coast really is a magical place in so many ways! I would love for you Adam to come over here one day and experience the nordic landscape of Scandinavia! It would be a privilege to show you around the more rugged wilderness of the north! Thank you for all the great work you do for the nature photography community Adam!

As a tree lover I am eternally grateful for a Fuji contact that mentioned your vlog work some time ago. So much of our learning comes from repetition which you practise gently and give plenty of examples. I am glad you returned to this scene and re-shot so successfully. You definitely nailed the solution with the dead grey stump at your 2nd attempt by placing it closer to the arbutus and it now balances so well with the grey bark of the distant snag. Totally agree with your expectancy of light and composition success. AT the very BEST, and LOCAL mine is 10% !! I never get bored with the challenge of light/weather variety and occasional success :-)

I don't mind the gray stump because it lends color balance to the image. The gray is repeated in the trunk of the dead snag in the distance and the alternating red and gray tree trunks look quite pleasing. Nicely done, Adam.

Fantastic piece Adam! I've been touting the importance for years of shooting locally. I do it often on my own YT channel. I think so many people see people like yourself and say they can't possibly shoot that well because they can't possibly go to places like you go and it's simply not true. It's all in the work and time put in to learn to see and to create with what you have. Thanks again for a great video!

I love what you say here about shooting local for many reasons. I worry about the destruction that happens when everyone migrates to the same location to capture a scene. I worry about the carbon footprint involved in getting there. When I have been to famous locations, I hate that I am there with throngs of others. I appreciate the chance to see others’ work from their local environs because it shows me something new. I am not really interested in looking at photos of famous places that I have already seen a hundred times on social media, etc. But show me something intimate, local, new. This year I have thought a lot about the California wild flowers from last year, where social media posts about them brought thousands of people, trampled flora, stressed trails, and traffic jams with running car engines.

16:11, awesome, how you can use that 32-64 up to f/22 without any diffraction. Fujinon lenses truly nail it. XF are already good, but that GFX system even tops it. Considering it’s even no prime but a zoom lens doubles the wow 🤩

Adam, While I always look forward to photo safaris to more distant environs, the local opportunities have provided some tasty and repeatable opportunities. I, too get a bit anxious when I realize I have just driven 900 miles and wonder, upon departure,, "What did I miss?" "They're not photographers, they're instagrammers." - what a grand comment! IMHO -- The second (vertical iteration of the tree/snag) is very, very nice. The grey stump in the original shot was, to me, hemorrhoidal in its irritation factor. The pano is also quite nice All told, excellent job working the location. Thank-You, Mike

Adam, in your first photo, I don't believe the stump cut off with a saw detracts at all. You can't tell in the photo how it was cut or broken and secondly, the area it fills would be pretty void without it and thus make the composition unbalanced. All in all, very beautiful as was the results of the next day.
