It's the same as the philosophy of the golden mean, which is to use the appropriate amount of force to defend yourself without losing your integrity or hurting the opponent as much as possible. Hence, Taijiquan is a martial art of diplomacy.

I learnt a Nei Kung spiritual system and we cultivate chi for health, energy and spiritual growth. It leads to certain things to developing but apart from maybe knowing how to Fajin i have no clue how to use the chi in a hands on martial arts sense. Good to see there are guys like Adam who know and can pass on such knowledge, skill. 🙏

I don't quite understand the explanation regarding equilibrium and central equilibrium (Zhong Ding) with the Taijitu symbol??? So if there is absolute balance in yin-yang in interaction with each other (movement in Taijitu-Symbol), there must be an balance point from yin to yang but also an balance point from yang to yin. So the whole S-shape curve in the Taijitu symbol (when rotating) consists of equilibrium points that form a pair from both sides. The central equilibrium (Zhong Ding) would only be in this case in the center of the rotation.

So...like babies...infants, we need to learn how to use our hands, learn how to walk, even how to control our bowels and bladders. We did all of this body mechanics learning then...but then learned to be more external, or learned that just those basic mechanical needs were necessary and so stopped internalizing though staying in touch with it would have been more beneficial for our well-being. Kinda-sorta like that?

I love it Adam. You are taking a materialist approach (not superficial materialism but material as in that which is real) instead of an idealist, air fairy post modern no objective points of reference for truth approach.

At 5.56 you say, Zhong Ding is not physical, one moment later you say, you have to separate your pysicality.. How should that work, when your body is just one all the time?? It is a contradiction in itself and makes it all more complicated as it is..
@DiscoverTaiji Жыл бұрын
A good question for our Taiji forum where Adam and other experts can assist. It only seems like a contradiction.
@dbrinson1691 Жыл бұрын
I understand it to mean mind; not tangible, meets body; which is tangible. Mind focusing inward as when you were an infant first learning body mechanics. How to grasp a rattle, how to crawl, stand, walk, and then they more difficult how to know when you needed to relieve yourself and/or how to control it until you got to the appropriate place of disposal. Relearning how to stand, walk, and move is body mechanics, but how your mind can perceive the body is the communication you need to get there. Kinda-sorta?

That's a good observation and I'm also a bit skeptical. I would like to see him in the ring against a good Wing Chun guy, that would be interesting or just doing some chi sau against Dan Inosanto or any high level JKD/WC fighter.

"We're here to develop the skill of T'ai Chi Chuan..." this video begins begins. I guess this is supposed to be some sort of intro. for a presumed paying audience whom we never see & who will then become initiated into secret mysteries, because for us, the uninitiated, this is nothing more than an advertisement for us to reach for our credit cards & sign up, to be in that presumed audience, because otherwise we'll learn nothing, as we do here, about simply developing Zhong Ding, the curtain of ignorance will not dissipate nor rise, the video will simply end & we'll know nothing more at the end of the video than we knew at its beginning about developing Zhong Ding in our practice... But I did appreciate Sifu Mizner giving us his definition of it, so in that sense it wasn't a waste of my time.
