@ 3:40 you are quoting manusmruti as a source of definition for sanatan dharma as "to follow the rules of caste, country and family". Could you quote the verse number? You could perhaps be mis-translating the "varna" as caste or the word "jati" as caste. In non-technical conversation that may be correct, but in technical conversations one has to abide by the technical jargon ("pari-bhasha"). What is required is an open atmosphere to discuss (seemingly contradictory) ideas and accept the view that triumphs in a civil debate (Adi shankaracharya challenged Mandam Mishra for a debate with the promise of accepting Mishra's views if defeated). And there is nothing wrong in having multiple definitions (of sanatana dharma) in varied contexts.

🪔👌🙏✊🪔 Absolutely correct. Ours is a multicultural multi belief multi coloured society. Thats the same thought when I was listening to him. Whats wrong if we have hundreds of definitions of Sanatana and Dharma. We have hundreds of definitions for Dharma, and the people who came to define us were totally confused. For them Religion means one ideal god sitting somewhere above, one book and one messenger. For us any simple person who has done a great sankalpa, could be a great scientist like Abdul Kalam or JC Bose or a yogi like Ramana Maharishi or great philosopher like Shanakaracharya, who has renounced everything to tapasya achieved something great, has gone closer to the supreme and we accept them as a messenger. They just cannot understand us. Moreover their language cannot translate Indian words and its Rasa or true feeling, also their vocabulary is 10 to 15% of Sanskrit or any Indian language. So they just translate from poor translations and finally they understand nothing.

For the real meaning and difference between the words Hindu, Hindutva and Hinduism, read the book "Hindutva" written by V. D. Savarkar. He has explained it beautifully with all the historic, geographic and religious aspects .

Samasya yaha hain ki hum 'Dharm' ko 'Religion' shabd ki paribhasha se samjhne ki kosis karte hain. Or agar aisa karenge to ham baar baar fail honge is Desh ke sahi itihaas or sanskriti ko samjhne mein. Asal baat ye hai ki is desh mein kabhi bhi Religion jaisi cheej exist nahi karti thi, balki yahan pe 'Patth (marg)' hua karte the jinka ultimate goal Liberation(moksh) hua karta tha. Or is desh ki saari philosophy or present time me hum jinko religion se denote karte hain isi Moksh par based hain. Yaha par aapko sagun Bhakti ka maarg milega jisme Ishwar ki bahut relevance hain. Vahi ek dam iske ulat Nirgun bhakti ka maarg bhi hain. Yaha par theistic tradition bhi hain like Shaiv, vaishnav, shakt etc. Yaha par non-theistic tradition (Ishwar ki utni manyata nahi hain) like Samkhya, Yoga, Buddhism, Jain bhi hain. Yah par Tantra hai jaha par cast system ki bilkul manahi hain or Yaha par Vedic tradition bhi hain jaha par Varna system bahut prabhaav rakhta hain. Yaha par materialistic tradition bhi the like Charvaka jo naa to reincarnation or naa hi bhagwan me vishwas rakhte the. To yaha par Krishna ka rebel path bhi tha jinhone Vedic god Indra ki puja karne se mana karwa diya. To is Bharat desh ko samajhne ke liye hame isi desh ke nazariye ki jarurat hain or jab tak ham western or abrahamic lens lagake yaha ke dharmo ko samajhne ki kosis karenge to ham baar baar fail honge.

We knew what Dharm was; the basis that upheld everything in the universe and all parts of it. Whatever name we use for refering to Dharm, it remains what it is, as an expression of natural laws in operation. So, the basis for understanding nature, the universe and everything else in it and the guidance for harmonious thought and action in it, like ethics, etc. were always ours and are still our people's Dharm. We all understand this very deeply and very well and, so, others, using such arguments as 'etymology' or 'historical records' need to take some rest and not confuse us with shallow thoughts.

They would mostly identify with their region , kingdom , sect , caste , lineage , proffession and dharma was considered some value system based on varied understanding of life you live by and not necessarily identify with the way we do it now . It was rather pretty good for it's time where the ideology was put into practice rather than just merely identifying with it. What was important was you remain dharmik irrespective of which caste , sect , lineage , kingdom or region you identify with. A shared history of this very value system called Dharma is the basis of a pan India United hindu identity today.
