Water heater: Get an instant gas water heater. Day 1 on two different trailers over 3 years, we had a Truma water heater installed. No problems and endless hot water. Never had an issue and Mama is happy.

Great tip! Thank you! One more leak from that hunk of metal and it’s getting the boot. LOL. Instant hot water is definitely in our future. We might count that as a weight savings to help justify getting Pam her washer and dryer. 😀👍 Best, Lee

This brings back so may funny memories. Thank you guys. For your awning to stabilize in wind you will need to used two rubber bungee cords, 550 paracord, and two tent pegs. Just adjust the tension, not to put to much stress on the frame, but enough to keep the awning in place. When wind gusts come in, it will have some give and should prevent the owning from ripping, and bouncing all over the place. Jus place the metal hooks directly on each end of your awning roller where the awning connects to the frame.

It's amazing how things change as you mature into RVing. Things that were important when you 1st started, aren't important now. When we 1st started RVing we went to campgrounds with full hookups, so we bought an ice maker, which we used all the time. Now we do a lot of dry camping and don't use the ice maker at all because it's a different style of camping. One of the things I like about RVing is that you are always learning and becoming more independent.

We have a 2006 42' Monaco Dynasty Class A diesel pusher. We have the 3 HVAC units on the roof. They are heat pumps like yours. We heat the coach with our Aqua Hot. The first time we went north in cold weather, we are from Southern Florida, our first night was below freezing. We turned on the furnace and nothing happened. So we turned on the heat pumps. That next morning it was so cold in the RV that we actually went and bought a space heater. We called the dealership and they assured us we were doing everything right. They had no idea why the Aqua Hot wasn't driving us out of the coach from too much heat. After leaving Virginia we went to Alabama to visit friends. We had a couple of small issues so we called a mobile RV repair tech. He was kind enough to tell us what we were doing wrong. Besides setting the thermostats to furnace it seems there is this rotating switch on one of the kitchen cabinets by the sink. It is under the counter top. We had absolutely no idea what this switch did. It turns out it is the speed control for the fan for the furnace. We set it on #2 and magically heat started pouring out of the ducts. Lol!!! The dealership was right. If your not careful the heat will drive you out. We have never had another cold night since. The Aqua Hot also has a switch where we can blow heat through the basement keeping our tanks warm at night. 🙂 There is definitely a huge learning curve to first time RVing. I have many more stories, but I'll leave it here for now. Our dealership even let us stay in their delivery lot for 10 days when we purchased it learning our RV. They had a guy spend a full day teaching us our RV.

Yes. Hitching and towing. I remember once when we left from home very early in the AM, and everything went smoothly even though we were leaving before dawn. We arrived at our first campground which was about 5 hours up the road, and I backed in like a pro, and then I looked for the power cord..........No power cord. Then it dawned on me......that stupid cord is still at the house still plugged into our rv outlet in our rv shed. Not only that but when it pulled out of the back of our fithwheel, it kind of wrecked the socket that it plugs into. My son checks our place for us when we go on trips, and he still laughs about finding that cord stretched out in the path from our rv shed, glaring evidence of my groggy early morning blunder.

Lee and Pam, this was a great video, explaining all the mistakes. And the fun part was you guys did not know how to handle them. I know I watch some of them. And I try to correct them, but it would be too late because it was two or three days after. It’s so much fun listening to Pam try to explain how it happened. She is so much fun to listen to her explaining everything. When I would see Lee trying to fix something, I could see on his face he didn’t know what to do with it. But he make a joke out of it. Give a hug to the girls from Joe. They are getting so cute. Enjoy

While I enjoyed the lightheartedness in this video, it would be extremely more educational and interesting if you described the solutions to the problems from other videos you reference. You mentioned using the wrong sealant, doing the plumbing incorrectly with brass fittings, surge protection vs EMS, the importance of heating the right way, etc.--please share the right way! Some of us are new here and to RVing. Your experiences and journey are interesting, but would be more useful if you include details about what you learned along the way.

Hi Mike! Thank you for the feedback and great tips. Completely understand as we are new at this as well. Actually, the theme of this video specifically, and our entire channel, is humility. In this video, we wanted to share our own personal experiences and fears with the RV Community in hopes that might relieve some of the stresses of other RV Newbies centric to perceived expectations in knowing everything on Day 1 of owning an RV. That's pretty unrealistic for anyone. We actually didn't share solutions on this video because we have discussed these in multiple other videos already. Again, this video was targeted to ignorance on the subject by our part and reminiscing on our own personal family experiences. However, in the future we will take into account the whole Problem-Solution aspect and ensure that we can provide updates, references, support, and other contributions to help our viewers. Thanks again and please keep us posted on your travel adventures. Best, Pam and Lee.

Another great video! The great thing about being a newbie and all of these issues is it’s not camper brand specific. All of these issues are mainly the same items in every brand of camper! I’m still trying to get the hang of our auto level system too…that’s my biggest learning curve on our new camper. It’s good that you can still laugh at it all and loving the RV life hasn’t gotten the best of y’all. Thanks again for sharing.

The one thing you can do wrong over anything is listen to all the RV newbies on KZbin telling you everything you need to buy or do just because they are out to make it in the KZbin world and just making videos to make them. Best advice take your time and think your way through it. You guys are awesome and glad to see your still out there enjoying it.

Hi Jim! We agree. Experience is everything. We don’t do a lot of how-to videos because we aren’t very good at RVing. There are thousands of other videos that show all of that stuff a lot better. We like to stick to showing the truth of full time family RVing and sharing our experiences. Hopefully, others will not make the same mistakes as we do. 😀 We also don’t promote products.
